What a fascinating read, thank you for sharing. In my opinion, this article tells us that Lincoln was a knowledgeable man not easily persuaded by others. Instead of acting a certain way because it was expected of him; he took the Bible’s teachings and personal beliefs to establish his moral code. It seems to me he highly respected God and The Bible, and didn’t necessarily agree with the church. People tend to believe their religion or way of life is better because that is all they know. I’m not saying everyone is like this, many research and enjoy learning about other religions and cultures. I assume Lincoln was that kind of ma; he didn’t seem quick to judge because someone was different, he strived to learn more about them in order to
Nick blows out a sigh. “Okay, if that’s what you want. Amy? Is it? …
Abraham Lincoln, the abolisher of slavery, the African American’s President; he shocked the world when came up with plan to end the war. That was to take the South’s biggest asset, their greatest workhouse the Black community. The South were superior at agriculture without having to it touch. Then on the other hand you have the North that is big in factories and don’t want to lose any jobs. So Lincoln had a lot going against him he still pushed for the Emancipation Proclamation. The time period when everyone was fighting each other lincoln wanted something that would end the fight for good, something to bring this war-torn nation at peace. The amendment is to take away the heart and soul of the South so they have no reason to fight. At the time the Democrats were mainly in the South, while the Republicans are in the North where they don't need slave because they work complex mechanic jobs. President Lincoln was entering his second term and wanted the bill to pass before the election stared back up. With some other states already have secede from the Union with some
Lincoln chooses to make certain religious allusions in his speech, in an attempt to unify the divided country around a common central concept: religion. Lincoln makes such references to religion to confirm others beliefs, and assure them that God stands with them, even in such a difficult time. To show sympathy towards African Americans, and to unify them with the others in the country, Lincoln states, “Both read the same bible, and both pray to the same God.”
Max is awakened by Jake, him saying “Max, lets talk about our plan for after the flight. Wake up!” Jake says that they should first figure out at least the general route/location of Max’s parents house. Connected to the airplane’s wifi, they go on maps and find the travel time and route to their destination. As he is waking up, he realizes what is soon to come after his flight. He isn’t ready for the battle that he isn't even for sure will happen, but with the help of Jake, he has more confidence. Max has come to an end of his conversation with Jake. He has to use the bathroom, so he walks down the airplane aisle to use the restroom as he hears the flight attendant say " Please take a seat all passengers, the plane is going in for a landing in about 5 minutes." He says to himself, "I can wait 5 minutes," and he goes back to his seat and puts on his seatbelt. 5 Minutes later, the plane lands safely, so Max and Jake, together, walk down the aisle to get their bags and they walk out of the plane. He can’t stop thinking about what is going to happen in his future confrontation with the terrorists in his parents town.
These lines exchanged by Jane Eyre and Mr. St John perfectly exhibit the differences in their personalities. Jane Eyre is a passionate, emotional person, while Mr. St John comes off as "cold" and un-feeling. These contrasting temperaments make for an intriguing scene when Mr. St John asks for Jane to marry and move to India with him as a missionary's wife. Jane had a strong emotional reaction to Mr. St John's proposal and St John was taken aback when she rejected him, but he did not have a particularly passionate reaction. In the days and weeks to follow, St. John was by no means friendly or warm with Jane, but he was also not outwardly rude to her. All and all, Mr. St John's disposition can be described as "cold," and Jane's emotions, that had a fire-like intensity, led her to reject to St. Johns final proposal.
“‘Why do you say Africa instead of just saying the country you mean?’…‘You don’t know America. You say Senegal and American people, they say, Where is that...’” (Adichie 15).
Abraham Lincoln is arguably one of the most interesting presidents in the history of the United States. Any research done on Lincoln will show, whether you agree or disagree with his philosophies, that he was, and still is, a fascinating historical figure. Have you ever wondered what America would be like today if slavery still existed? Well, thanks to Abraham Lincoln, we don’t have to. Abe Lincoln, the United States’ 16th president, possibly left the biggest impact in America’s history to this day.
History records Abraham Lincoln as the Great Emancipator, yet ardent abolitionists of his day such as William Lloyd Garrison viewed him with deep suspicion. That the 16th president eventually achieved the abolitionists' most cherished dream, says biographer Allen Guelzo, happened through a curious combination of political maneuvering, personal conviction, and commitment to constitutional principle.
Many Americans believed that the election of 1860 would decide the fate of the Union. The Democratic Party was the only party in the national scope. The convention in Charleston, South Carolina in 1860 split the Democratic Party. Stephen Douglas wanted his party’s presidential nomination, but he could not afford to alienate northern voters by accepting the southern position on the territories. However, "Southern Democrats insisted on recognition of their rights, as the Dred Scott decision had defined them and they moved to block Douglas’s nomination"( Bialy, 2007, p. 383). Douglas obtained a majority for his version of the platform, delegates from the South walked out of the convention. After compromise efforts the Democrats presented two
When Abraham Lincoln was elected as the first republican president, he only received 40% of the popular votes; he also beat three other candidates on top of that. Lincoln was responsible for a lot of changes and is also known as an icon in American History. Lincoln was a Kentucky-born lawyer and a former Whig Representative to the Congress. Lincoln was going up against Stephen Douglas in the Senate race; Douglas argued that the states should have a right to be a slave state or a free state, while Lincoln argued against slavery and the spread of it. Unsurprisingly, Lincoln had lost the Senate race, but his campaign against slavery brought national attention to the Republican Party, in 1860, Lincoln had won the Republican party’s nomination
Abraham Lincoln was considered by many American’s as one of the greatest Presidents of the United States. Having come from humble beginnings it could be said that Abraham Lincoln rose up to meet all the challenges that would greet him, and it could be argued that at the time the only person who could successfully guide the United States through the Civil War was Abraham Lincoln. At the time of his presidency, the United States was falling apart, with the South trying to secede from the North, creating much chaos that Lincoln had to deal with. He worked slowly and throughly, which sometimes got people agitated but he was a very careful working man and knew that it was better if he took his time. Abraham Lincoln was not

He as thought to be the man who led this great country through the toughest times it had to encounter. His determination to get the United States through the Civil War is one of the best things that have ever happened for this country. Lincoln’s argument about the relationship between slavery, the Constitution, and the Union changed throughout the Civil War. Lincoln’s view of the purpose of the war was to save the Union because of the southern states seceding from the Union. However, the argument changed to the war being about slavery because of Fredrick Douglass’s speeches and the Confederates surrendering at
Jane Addams was known as the “mother” of social work. Feminist and activist are two words that can best describe her. She was an advocate for education and better living conditions for those who did not have the means to do it themselves. Addams and Ellen G Starr opened a settlement house in Chicago, which is formally known as the Hull House. Having health problems never stopped Jane from dedicating her life to the Hull House, as well as other well-known contributions to the social work field. Several reforms were introduced during her time as a social worker. She has served on several platforms such as chairman on a school committee, president of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom and author. Jane has several
