Heroes are great role models for everyone because of their superior traits. These individuals greatly influence others by doing extraordinary deeds. They are also well respected and honorable characters. A heroic person makes differences in people’s lives, for the better. One extraordinary hero many people admire is Abraham Lincoln for showing great leadership.

One article stated that, “In 1834 Abraham Lincoln began his political career and was elected to the Illinois state legislature as a member of the Whig Party” (Biography.com). From 1847 to 1849 he served a single term in the U.S House of Representatives. Then in 1856 after practicing law for a period of years after his single term in the House of Representatives he joined the Republican Party. In 1860 Lincoln was nominated for presidency mostly due to his, “moderate views on slavery, his support for improving the national infrastructure, and the protective tariff” (Biography.com). On November 6, 1860 he was elected the 16th president of the United States. Then on January 1, 1863, Lincoln delivered the Emancipation Proclamation, which stated that all individuals who were held slaves would be free. He led the Union to victory during the Civil war, but shortly after he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth and died on April 14, 1865. Some of Lincoln’s most famous speeches include the Gettysburg address along with his Emancipation Proclamation, both speaking of slavery and freedom. Abraham Lincoln was born in a small town in Hodgenville, Kentucky in February 12th 1809. Brought up by his mother and father Thomas and Nancy Lincoln, Abraham was an aspiring young man with a thirst of knowledge, learning about everything he could. He grew up with a brother and a sister but sadly they both passed away. His sister Sarah at the age of 21, and his brother Thomas died 3 days after birth. He only had a short time with his mother as she died in 1818 from drinking bad milk, but when his father remarried Abraham and his mother formed a close bond between them and he loved his mother very much because of the way she encouraged him to learn. His father was not so supportive. His father always had him working on the farm and this upsetted
