When the topic of abortion is discussed people tend to assume one of two standpoints: “pro-life,” they believe that the woman should not have the right to abort a human life because it would be murder or “pro-choice,” they believe that the woman carrying the fetus should be given the ability to decide whether to carry the baby to term or to abort it. Although Americans are divided on the subject of abortion by these beliefs, most do not fall strictly on one side or the other and ultimately the majority favor restricted availability. Abortion is a cruel and disgusting crime, but some still think that it is okay (Arguments For and Against Abortion). “There are two types of abortion, medical and surgical, which is used depends on how far along …show more content…
No matter how you spin it, women do not have four arms and four legs when they are pregnant. Those appendages belong to the tiny human being living and being formed inside them. At no point in the pregnancy is the developing embryo apart in the mother’s body. Also, only 1% of abortions are performed to save lives. It is an extremely rare case when abortion is required to save the mother’s life. Of course, when two lives are being threatened, and only one can be saved, doctors must always save that life (AbortionFacts.com). Those who choose abortions are often minors or young women with little life experience to understand fully what they are doing, many have lifelong regrets afterwards. In the instance of rape and incest, proper medical care can ensure that a woman will not get pregnant. Abortion punishes the unborn child who committed no crime; instead, it is the perpetrator who should be punished (Lowen). The fetus is a human being from the moment of conception; this means abortion is murder, which is immoral and should be illegal (Arguments For and Against …show more content…
With 1.5 million American families wanting to adopt a child, there is no such thing as an unwanted baby (Lowen). Growing up in a family with three adopted children, I can personally say that they have been my family’s biggest blessings and have grown to be my very best friends. They are a part of us and they have positively affected everyone I know in some way. I could and do not what to imagine by life without them. There is nothing wrong with any child, how their parents choose to treat them before and after they are born is not their fault. Every child should come into the world wanted, loved, and cared for. There are more health risks while having an abortion than giving birth. Not only does every abortion kill an innocent human being in the womb; but abortion is also more hazardous to the mother than if she were to give birth to the child. The evidence overwhelmingly proves that the morbidity and morality rates of legal abortions are several times higher than someone carrying a pregnancy to term
Pro-choice has been a major topic ever since the women’s movements started in the early 1970’s, a question sometimes asked is that, if part of the population are so pro-life and worry about protecting a fetus, how come when the child is conceived they suddenly bash at you for having that unwanted child anyways, and that is hypocritical. In this essay, details include would be why people choose to be pro-choice, NARAL Pro-Choice America, the battle for reproductive justice for women and their right to make decisions for their body, advocates that are pro-choice, proposals for a pro-choice government, and Tomi Lahren being fired for stating she was pro-choice.
Rationale: The debate between being pro-choice or pro-life is an argument that continues to separate people due to one’s beliefs or values. With this debate I was able conjure an argument that states why I’m pro-choice. A boy in my class said there was two options, pro-life and pro-death, forgetting the real name of the other view (pro-choice). I quickly corrected saying it was pro-choice, because that is exactly what it stands for; one has the choice to make that decision. My audience are people who are not very educated when it comes to this matter, and Susan B. Anthony. I believe everyone has the right to their own beliefs and values. However, how could someone possibly impose their beliefs on everyone and condemn them to one option. My
Throughout this entire course we have learned about several different issues that women have faced for several years and that they still face even today. One of the lessons that stood out the most to me was the one about abortion. This is not just an issue that affects women but this issue affects men as well. Abortion is a major topic in today’s society. You have a great number of people who against it and there are also some who support it. There are many different situations that a person takes into consideration before making their decisions. I believe that the article “And So I Choose” by Allison Crews that we read in class was a major eye opener for many people. Though I am pro-life, I learned a lot from this particular piece. I think
The subject in which we are about to discuss is such a deeply controversial issue because fundamental moral and profound ethical reasonings are at stake. This matter is highly charged with passion, emotion, and is extremely complex. Few questions have divided America as strongly or intensely as this one. Are you pro-life or pro-abortion? Abortion is the ending of pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo before it can survive outside the uterus. Modern methods use medication or surgery for abortion. However, these are no small issues. Most women feel people who are pro-life are violating their rights. As a result what we have is a massive collision or conflict of perceived rights. For example, the right of women, the right of privacy, the right
Today’s society is filled with many controversial issues and debates in which most people take a side based on their personal viewpoints regarding one 's religious beliefs or moral codes. Not everyone is going to agree with each other on the same thing, and these opposing ideas is what essentially divides, and creates controversy within our society. Abortion seems to be one of the most controversial discussions, among many others, in the United States. The two sides to the abortion debate are: pro-life, in where one believes abortion should be illegal under any situation due to the un-born baby’s rights, and pro-choice, in where one believes the woman should have the right to choose whether she wants an
So you made a mistake, but life is all about fixing those mistakes and learning from them. Abortion has been a topic talked about for several years and I strongly believe that abortion should be the mothers choice. The definition of abortion is “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth.” Pro-life people are against abortion and consider it to be murder whereas pro-choice people believe it is the mothers choice whether she wants to abort the baby or not. Women have many reasons to abort their babies such as religion, age and financial problems.
Abortion has always been present around the world and has been a controversial topic. As many people agree or disagree with women’s who have done this during their pregnancy. The loss of an immature embryo or fetus before violability is an abortion. When this happens spontaneously, the word miscarriage is used, the word abortion being kept for the intended removal of the fetus from the uterus. (Oxford, 2001). A woman who has taken the decision to abort, they can only do it during their first, second and third trimester. Abortion does not only hurt the baby but also the person who is involved in this situation and can affect that person not only mentally but also psychological. In some countries, a woman who is seeking for abortion,
There’s a very large controversy between the ideas about abortion and anti-abortion. Different religious views, beliefs, peoples many different customs and even people of different cultures all have their own preferences and ideas on the take of this political issue. Views against abortion can lead to as much of an impact as a violent/non violent riots outside of an abortion clinics, to something as simple article in the newspaper. The belief on abortion that leads to a lot of the controversy is that in this time people are abusing the purpose of an abortion and using it as a form of birthcontrol. Some cultural belief systems not only around the world but also here in the United States, believes that abortion should not be used at all, and that it is a version of murder. While others believe in the idea of “Your body, your choice”. “Your body, your choice”, means that if you would like to get an abortion within the legal 3 month period after conception in the United States it not considered murder and it is the woman 's choice. This is allowed at any age, for any purpose, whether the sex and conception was accidental or rape. After the three month period of time the baby is considered a new life and must be taken care of. Any abortions after this time are considered illegal and murder. No matter what happens with the outcome of the abortion topic there will always be a group of people not represented, and they will be unhappy with the product. One upside at this point in
The topic I choose to research was abortion because the question of whether abortion should be legal is a continuous debate. There are two sides to this ongoing fight; Pro-Choice and Pro-Life. To determine which group suits you, you can ask yourself do you think abortion should be banned or accepted? I choose to accept abortion and therefore identify as a person who is Pro-Choice. Abortion is not a black and white issue. It can be complicated and personal. My groups position on the issue on abortion is that we believe that abortions are a woman’s choice and shouldn’t be limited by the government or any religious authorities.
Medical Studies consistently show that in the first-trimester, where nine in ten abortions are performed, the mortality rate for abortion-related deaths is no more than four in one-million abortions. However the number of deaths increases to one death per 11,000 when it is performed at 21 weeks or later. The risk associated with childbirth is approximately fourteen times higher that an abortion procedure. There is a less than 0.3% risk of major complication from an abortion that would need hospital care.
For several years, the stances on abortion has been a popular topic in many political and social societies. Abortion is an expulsion from the uterus of an embryo or fetus before viability (20 weeks' gestation [18 weeks after fertilization] or fetal weight less than 500 g). A distinction made between abortion and premature birth is that premature infants are those born after the stage of viability but before 37 weeks' gestation. Abortion may be either spontaneous (occurring from natural causes) or induced (artificially or therapeutically), (Medilexicon). It is often thought of as this horrible thing that careless, irresponsible people do when they have slipped up or made a mistake. Abortion is an option a parent may choose for several reasons: health conditions, they may feel that it is best for the child, or they just may not be ready. There are some cases where abortion may be considered acceptable, such as rape/incest or health concerning the mother or child. Twenty-one percent of all pregnancies in the U.S. end in abortion (not
Abortion. Some hear the word and feel grief for the taking of the life of a child before birth. Others may hear the word and feel relief in in the legal medical procedure that allows a pregnant woman to make a decision about her body and whether or not to continue a pregnancy. What are the facts and statistics on abortion? What is an abortion and how is one performed? What do people believe about them? Do those people have anything in common? All these questions will soon be answered.
Abortion is the induced expulsion of a human embryo/fetus from the womb before it is capable of surviving independently. There are 2 main classifications of abortion, Surgical and medical . Surgical abortion - involve invasive procedures like Suction aspiration, a procedure most used in the first trimester of pregnancy. The abortionist inserts a suction tube (similar to a vacuum hose with an extremely sharp end) into the mother’s womb. The suction and cutting edge dismember the baby while the hose sucks the body parts into a collection bottle”. Medical abortion- These are abortions that involve the administration of drug specifically intended to abort the child. Common drugs used for medical abortions include Methotrexate, this highly toxic chemical directly attacks and breaks down the baby’s fast-growing cells. It also attacks the life-support systems the baby needs to survive. When the systems fail, the baby dies. Misoprostol is then used to cause contractions and push the dead baby out of the womb. The mere mention of the word stirs great tension and controversy. Some hold the position that abortions are unjust and should be illegal under any circumstance, while others believe the potential parents have the right to decide .Throughout this essay we will examine the themes essential to these arguments while maintaining the view
Suction aspiration abortions are where the doctor inserts a suction tube into a woman’s womb and sucks the fetus out. Dilation and evacuation also requires a doctor to dilate the cervix but there are multiple tools used to remove the fetus from the uterus. Salt poisoning requires a doctor to remove amniotic fluid from the amniotic sac and replace it with saline solution, which then burns the skin of the fetus. Salt poisoning is no longer used in the United States. A prostaglandin chemical abortion is a two-part procedure in which a woman must take a cocktail to kill the fetus and another cocktail to initiate uterine contractions to begin to process of allowing the fetus to leave the uterus. This option is often referred to as an abortion pill, and formerly known as RU-486. A hysterotomy or cesarean section is when the doctor will preform a cesarean section birth for the fetus but the umbilical cord is cut within the womb for the baby to be killed before birth. Partial birth abortion is when the doctor causes a breech birth so the baby’s head is the last thing left in the birth canal and the back of the skull of the fetus is punctured with fully open scissors. ("Surgical Abortions.")
When abortion comes up in a discussion or debate the sole argument used by pro-life individuals, are the effects it has on the unborn baby. While I desire to also explain the effects abortion has on the baby, I also want to discuss and explain the dangerous effects and health risks abortion has on the mother after the procedure. Abortion is a procedure that should be taken very seriously in the eyes of all individuals, but especially of the mother that is wanting the procedure. It
