In order to reduce the number of abortions, the government should pass laws which restrict individuals from pregnancies when they are not ready otherwise stringent consequences and punishments are faced by the aborted women. The problem with this move is that it is difficult for the government to monitor pregnancies since some women may undertake the abortion privately especially via private clinics and purchasing abortion pills and partake the abortion at home as opposed to moving to private hospitals (Coleman, 2007).
The abortion policies and legal restrictions adopted by government should be consistent with moral orientations and perceptions by the public. It is an obvious phenomenon that the government will depend on scientific findings in order to make laws regarding abortion. However, it is vital for the government to make these laws while considering the opinion of the public regarding the same. This is because rational members of the society will incorporate moral perspectives on the nature as well as dignity of the life of a person with an objective of protecting human life. …show more content…

It is clear that many individuals concentrate on the rights and suffering of the unborn baby, but overlook the rights and suffering of the pregnant woman. The society and policy makers would therefore be entangled in a dilemma of such a situation where the rights and suffering of both the unborn child and the pregnant mother have to be put into consideration. Therefore, the policymakers and other stakeholders should pass those policies without compromising the rights and sufferings of the mother and at the same time justify that it is not worth taking away an innocent life.
