In Abigail Adams letter to her husband, Adams demonstrates that her “[...] pen is always freer than (her) tongue.” (Adams) a number of times. In her letter to her husband on May 7th, 1776 she had wrote, “Thus do I suppress every wish and silence every murmur, acquiescing in a painful separation of my youth and the friend of my heart.” in which she expresses how oppressed and alone she feels. Due to the time period back then, women couldn’t really speak up.
