In The Crucible, I assume that the character Abigail is a static character. Abigail is considered a static character for the reason that no matter what her feelings never change. She does whatever she is yearning to be happy with herself. It makes no difference if she is hurting other people as long she is joyous. An example is how she accuses Elizabeth Proctor of being a witch even though it's not true. She only did it for the reason that she thought she would be able to be with John Proctor. The character John Proctor is a dynamic character. John is considered a dynamic character because he changes his feelings in the entire play. In the beginning he was a quiet farmer and now he is a brave man with a great deal of courage. In the beginning
At the end of act 1, Abigail is to blame for starting the hysteria because of her actions, and by blaming other people. When Reverend Parris says to Abigail, “Then you were conjuring spirits last night.” and she responds by saying “Not I, sir- Tituba and Ruth.” (17) because even though she was apart of conjuring spirits she began to blame others so that she doesn't have a bad name, and so that everybody doesn't suspect Abigail. During act 1, when the story starts to unroll Abigail gets more and more worried. Parris was questioning Abigail and she responded, “(in terror) No one was naked! You mistake yourself uncle.” (11) When people started to get onto Abigail she was very nervous because she knew that she did wrong but she didn't want to get
Abigail is easily one of the most vindictive and selfish characters in the book through her lack of remorse for the people she accuses, how she caused mass hysteria throughout the town and even blames one of the others. For instance throughout the book barely any sympathy is shown by Abigail towards those she has accused of witchcraft. She constantly accuses people and never once feels sorry for them, she evens makes up elaborate stories about how the accused made her do all these crazy actions in order to make it sound more convincing to the magistrates.
Abigail is a powerful and smart leader that uses intimidation and is willing to do anything to obtain Jon Proctor. Abigail is the antagonist in the play and becomes a leader by admitting that she has worked with the devil but seeks redemption. When she becomes a leader, she abuses her power by intimidating people and accusing them of witchcraft. Another characteristic that she has is that she is smart. Through the play, she is able to confront different problems and uses every little opportunity to her advantage. Last, she is willing to do anything to obtain John Proctor, even if means eliminating Elizabeth.
In The Crucible Abigail had a significant impact on the trials. Abigail had a significant impacts on the trials because she lies and manipulates a bad situation into something that will benefit herself and makes everyone believe her. In Act three Abigail says “But God made my face;you cannot want to tear my face. Envy is a deadly sin, Mary” (Miller 195). This quote states that Abigail lies and manipulates the situation in the trial when Mary Warren accusing Abigail of witchcraft by lying that she saw Mary Warren turn into a bird and that Mary was going to hurt her. Therefore, by Abigail putting the blame on Mary and because she know as a well proper young lady she has everyone fooled in believing that Mary is the one that is controlling the
In the Crucible, Readers are introduced to many characters. Of all the characters Abigail Williams is the protagonist in Arthur Miller's “ The Crucible.” Her undying love for John Proctor, accusing people she dislikes for doing witchcraft, and having a negative effect on Elizabeth and John Proctor's marriage can all be used to back up this reasoning.
A lie can travel all around town before the truth gets out of bed. Such as Abigail, the worst character in the play, for the reason that she is so irritating and lies. For example, when Mary was talking about seeing spirits and the fainting was all false but Abigail was still pretending as if it was all real. Mary was told to tell the truth about the spirits and fainting, but later Abigail would pretend to see Mary’s spirit.
The Crucible is written as a play by Arthur Miller, the play is about the Salem Witch Trials. It all started with a group of young girls that were dancing around a fire at the middle of the night which is considered a sin and they chose to lie about it. After this event the leader of the group who is Abigail started to accuse many villagers of being a witch and john proctor wanted to ended it so he can save his wife from being in jail so he forces mary warren. One of the major reasons why she started to accuse people is because she wanted to be with john proctor in order to that she has to get rid of elizabeth of being a witch.in the the end many innocent people got hanged. Is to inform people of being wrongly accused.
In Arthur Miller's play The Crucible, Abigail can be considered evil and her failed attempt to be good and pure was evident. Arthur Miller has portrayed Abigail to be unclean and the chaos of Salem, this is clearly shown from the very beginning of the play when Betty reveals to the audience, abigails truly malicious character saying, “you drank a charm to kill John Proctor's wife.” this quote outlines the truth of abigail's evil intentions and despite her obvious knowledge about what is right to do, she tries to guilt John Proctor into continuing their affair “You loved me, John Proctor, and whatever sin it is, you love me yet! John, pity me, pity me!” In this quote, Abigail tried to flatter john while also disrespecting Elizabeth Proctor.
Atrocious, malicious, venomous, these aren’t the kind of words one uses to compliment someone. When used, they are a hateful description utilized in a very specific opinion. Sometimes, these opinions are purposely established in a reader’s thoughts by an author, without even directly stating them, such as how Arthur Miller constructed Abigail in The Crucible. In the play, he purposely shapes a reader’s opinion of Abigail as vicious with indirect details, using what she says, how she acts, and how others think of her.
The Crucible Can a bunch of lies kill 19 people? No, usually not but in history this has happened before. In the late 1600’s a series of lies lead to the death of many innocent people. In The Crucible Arthur Miller uses Abigail Williams lies to leave a negative opinion of Abigail. In The Crucible Abigail is manipulative and through her speech, actions and affair we have a negative opinion of Abigail.
In The Crucible, Abigail could act as a source of blame for many of the events that had occurred. However, there are multiple factors that might sway one’s opinion in the opposite direction. The society she was within was corrupt as it was. She couldn’t help the environment that she was raised in. Poor decisions had led her into some tough situations that would make getting out of very difficult.
Numerous innocent people were killed on behalf of religious beliefs of being witches. Betty, a young girl, was found in the woods “conjuring” the devil with other girls and became severely ill after this. Preceding Betty’s suspicious illness was the Salem Witch trials. People believed Betty to be the victim of a witch. Abigail, one of the girls who was with Betty, declares numerous innocent women as witches, trying to protect herself from what she was doing in the woods. Abigail’s claims caused people from the town, including the Proctors, Parris, and Abigail, to protect their names whether positively or negatively. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller shows that people who value one’s reputation will protect it despite how it affects
n Act I, Betty tells that she and many of the other girls have been out with Tituba in the woods, trying to do magic. Betty says that Abigail did this because she wanted to kill Proctor. After she says this, Abigail hits her and then gets the girls together to make sure that they will all give the same account of what happened in the forest an account that will not get them in trouble. Abigail is portrayed as a beautiful girl with the ability to disguise the truth about everything. She lies about what she and the other girls were doing in the forest, "we never conjured spirits," and blames everyone for the mischief but herself when confronted with the truth.
The idea of the “human condition” and how it is developed is essentially embodied in Abigail’s character. She was not born a manipulative liar, but learned to be one through a series of past events. The judicial system is meant to be fair and just in every way. However, how can one determine if it is fair if the perpetrator is also the victim of circumstances in his or her life (Welch, C)?
In The Crucible, my character is Abigail Williams, a seventeen year old girl who lives with her uncle after she was kicked out of the Proctor household where she was working. Her uncle is Reverend Parris, and he is one of her only living family members, as her parents were killed by Indians. He is related to Abigail’s mother, the reason why they have different surnames; he is the closest thing Abigail has to a father figure in her life. Betty Parris, the reverend’s daughter is Abigail’s only cousin, and because they live together they are as close as sisters, and become as thick as thieves through all of the witchcraft business they cause because Betty so blindly follows her. Besides John Proctor, Betty is the only other person that she actually loves since her parents were murdered.
