As summer research intern in AbbVie Inc, I work in the drug discovery department. This department is responsible for synthesizing new drugs that may be beneficial in the treatment of certain diseases. My main responsibility is to design and synthesize compounds that would be essential in the treatment of Visceral Leishmaniasis. This duty involves participating in all phases of the research-- including planning, preparation, calibration, application, evaluation, data analysis, maintenance, and when necessary, appropriate disposal of
By next week, our aim to continue to test the car with the different amount of weights to work the total amount (optimal weight for our modified car) of weight that our car can carry. Our second goal is to finish our technical report as soon as
The expansion to the West in the 19th century was an interesting and incredible time. As the Eastern population of the United States grew, people expanded to the West in search of opportunity. Over population created a lack of jobs and land, so emigration westward was appealing for many. People from many walks of life traveled west and each one experienced their time on the trail a different way. These personal journals and diaries gave historians a glance at what the western frontier was really like during that time frame. These personal accounts showcase the attitudes, concerns and the everyday lives of different travelers.
This assignment gave me a deeper insight into the minds of the captured, abused, scarred prisoners who found themselves trapped behind the bars of Germans for no reasonable explanation at all. Completing this quote journal helped me realize that they didn't lose all of their humanity, the prisoners and Nazi's both. Although many German soldiers could care less about the thoughts and feelings of the Jews, some showed that their heart still had compassion, even if it was just a little bit. Riva was filled with despondency at times, yet her strength remained and she survived. The memories of her family was with her during the time she was held at camps, and the little bit of hope that they too could be alive still was a reason to keep herself
The future is as vast as the sky is on a dark and clear night, seemingly unknown and mysterious yet humans prepare for it. Knowing challenges await in the future, people have created programs to outreach to others, for myself, I took advantage of the program AVID.
Critical response journal three is a reflective entry to detailed questions and thoughts pertaining to managing student behavior and promoting effective behavior in special needs students. Effective classroom practices and positive behavioral support approaches help to foster student success in the school environment.
One of the most fruitful professional development opportunities this summer was the training program offered through the National Library of Medicine’s National Training Center, PubMed for Trainers. The 4 part course provided an in-depth look at PubMed, new tools and search strategies. The training included an additional instructional design component in addition to being exposed to the logic and methodologies used in PubMed will enhance my teaching of the platform. The training and the instructional design are going to be invaluable heading into the Fall semester. The instructional design sessions have guided and refined my upcoming library instruction sessions for nursing and exercise and health sciences students. It has reinforced me
Five to ten years from now, I will be obtaining my graduate degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences after having built a strong foundation in chemistry, human physiology, and drug discovery. As a graduate student who aspires to synthesize and test new drugs and therapies, I will be working in a research laboratory or participating in an internship to prepare myself for a future in a collegial environment with other medical professionals. By this time, I would have already spent a semester abroad as a foreign exchange student in France to enhance my French minor studies. As an independent student who will have the opportunity to explore Europe, I will be able to expose myself to a variety of cultures and perspectives so that I could develop an understanding of global issues within the medical field and apply different frames of references to my research.
I feel awkward answering this question because I have made many mistakes and there isn’t anything good out of those mistakes. In my opinion, wrong decisions never bring anything positive. Wrong decisions decrease morale and self-esteem. At a young age, mistakes or wrong decisions don’t affect much, but as you get older wrong decisions can have a tremendous negative impact. There aren’t second chances for people who make wrong decisions. I know that deep down below the surface mistakes can bring opportunities to learn and improve ourselves, but in this rapidly changing and moving world, there isn’t time to reflect and learn from those mistakes. If wrong decisions brought opportunities for learning and personal improvement, many
Americans have access to and benefit from one of the most technologically advanced pharmaceutical systems in the world. However, this system is also very strict and tedious. The system this paper will evaluate is the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), more specifically, the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER). Although, having access to this system can be frustrating to those that are in the pharmaceutical development industry or those that have illnesses and need the best drugs available in order to cope with their symptoms.
In this paper I will be speaking on the Health Care Industry and how it has changed over the years. There are many aspects of the medical industry that have changed from how medical information is kept to how medication is given. In this paper I will be explaining how health care has changed over the last 10 years and what the biggest change is in the next 10 years. I will also speak about what my role will be in the health industry, especially when it comes to adapting my skills into the health care industry. Along with the information mentioned above I will be expressing my perception of how the health care has changed over the course of my
Looking back on the past few weeks of practicum, there have been many opportunities for personal reflection and connection between my placement and the course work. To describe my role, I am placed in the Outreach and Advocacy program at Chimo Community Services. From what I understand so far, I will have a few clients each day that come in with different issues. We assist them in navigating these issues an advocating for them when necessary. For example, some clients will come in with limited English proficiencies or disabilities and will need assistance filling out forms. Other times, clients need assistance navigating complicated government and structural applications like Canada Pension Plan, BC Housing, and Income Assistance.
As a Jewish person, who has been largely exposed to Holocaust material, it is hard simply to focus upon one piece to write about. I attended Hebrew school from the time I entered pre-school, until the day of my bat mitzvah. The middle and high schools that I attended devoted much of their curriculums to teachings about the Holocaust. My family also felt it very valuable for me to know and understand. Thus, I have read Night and attended a speech given by Elie Wiesel. I have read the Diary of Anne Frank, other memoirs and accounts, as well as fictional and rigid non-fictional books. I have watched Schindler’s List, Sophie’s Choice, Life is Beautiful, and a host of
Drug research is connected to a range of academic studies such as biology, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry and toxicology. Pharmaceutical researchers can design novel therapeutic drugs based on these studies above. The invention of new drug can be divided by function into two stages: drug discovery and drug development. Drug discovery is the process by which a new drug candidate is found and identified. Distinctively, bringing a new drug candidate to the market through clinical trials is called drug development. The first part of this essay provides an overview of drug discovery and pre-clinical research and development
With healthcare being such a rapidly developing field, it is essential that we, as aspiring medical professionals, understand what is progressing in our profession. Within the blink of an eye health care changes; doctors, professors, researchers, are all developing new theories, journals and studies daily. It is our responsibility as current students in this field to do our best to further understand these journals, studies, researches and the writing that is involved in our field. Why you may ask? There is arguably an infinite amount of perspectives in the medical field ranging from a vast amount of topics-- understanding how to read and write professional writing based on medicine is imperative for our future careers and their advancement
Over the years, scientists have been instrumental in discovering and developing new drugs that save thousands of people’s lives. This significantly improves life as we know it on Earth. So basically, this topic is on a big in-depth study of drugs and medications.
