The County Mayor is responsible for the oversight of day-to-day operations of multiple departments including the Ambulance Service, Emergency Management, Animal Services, Risk Management, Recovery Court, Correctional Work Center, Youth Services, Solid Waste, Landfill, Information Technology, Building Codes, Planning, Engineering, Building Maintenance, Vehicle Maintenance, Domestic Violence, Fire & Rescue, Archives, and Community Learning. Conversely, the other elected officials are only responsible for the department they were elected to oversee. Further, each office may have additional tiers to support subdivisions of the office for example: Finance includes payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, audit, fixed assets, grants, and budgets.

Although the subject of education, study behavior, has been viewed as a personal matter, we believe race and gender played a role in it. We interviewed a Senior Latino student named Irving Alvisurez. Alvisurez is a first generation college student that came from Los Angeles, California. When he first came to UCSB, he lived in FT and there was only four Hispanics on his whole floor, this gave him more opportunity to expose to foreign cultures and experiencing culture shock. He first majored in computer science and later changed to Chicano studies. As a first generation Latino, he felt more pressure from family rather than social pressures. As soon as Magic Johnson announced he had HIV, he immediately was a role model for others to get tested and have hope of living a long and fulfilling life. In 2011, Magic Johnson talked about living with AIDS/HIV for 20 years, and how this disease is not a death sentence. He encourages others to get educated and get tested. However, when Johnson first found out he had the AIDS/HIV virus, his concern was not how did he get the disease or what is going to happen or how will he afford the medical expenses, but rather, “How am I going to live a long time?” (Moughty).

The only Chicago landmark in the Chinatown district, Pui Tak Center serves as a cultural and educational center for Chinese immigrants. The building is well known for its extensive Chinese terra cotta on both exterior and interior portion of the building. Pui Tak Center is an interesting location as it is open to the public. Being a summer volunteer at this cent for 2 years, it is always packed with elderly people playing Chinese chess and ping pong. A section of the building also acts as classroom for private Catholic elementary school.

Since the Puritans considered themselves God's chosen people, they concluded that they had the right to take the land from the heathen Indians.
