I decided to attend a meeting based first (and almost solely) on convenience of the location. So I decided to attend a meeting right here in Batavia. The “Batavia 12 & 12” at the Holy Trinity Church down on 6th & Wood St. They hold meeting on Mondays around 11:00am. The main focus is to follow the 12 steps in order and work on them in a more traditional fashion. They do have the big book, but follow it more in a step by step focus. However karma decided to rear its head and make it a Closed Meeting, meaning that it is not as open to the public to sit on and they only allow members who are coming with a problem related to alcohol. The Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting that I attended was held at the Alcoholics Alana Club in Anaheim, California on Thursday. The meeting started at 7:30 in the evening, though many members gathered earlier to smoke and mingle outside. The members were a mix of Caucasian and Hispanic individuals that ranged from early 20s to late 60s. They seemed to be over lower socioeconomic status (SES), and the majority of them had tattoos and piercings. This particular meeting was a speaker meeting, so the meeting began with the leader welcoming everyone and announcing the people visiting from other states, as well as people who shared that this was their first meeting. He then called up a couple people to read certain chapters of the AA book. Another individual then volunteered to be the ‘10 minute speaker’, and briefly shared his story and how the 12 steps helped guide his recovery. It’s a beautiful Friday night. You have just finished karate practice and are now off to have dinner with your two best friends. Instead of talking about your lives as you all usually do, the three of you end up staring into your screens as if the phone has hypnotized you into a neverending void called the Internet. After what seems like only minutes, one of your friends suddenly has to go, remembering that they had plans with someone else. All you say is a quick “Goodbye” and then you just go back to staring at the screen, waiting for a new status update like how a dog waits for its food. If this is the fate of our generation, then the AAP should not even be thinking about raising its recommended screen time.

High school is a very hectic time in a teenager’s life. There are multiple different things going on, such as classes to choose, who to be friends with, deciding on colleges and careers, and much more. There are many classes to choose from. Once classes have been chosen, it is now time to pick what level is most beneficial: regular, honors, or Advanced Placement. But be warned, Advanced Placement classes do not benefit US students because they are too rushed and the students are not prepared to take them.

There are several IT staff limitations facing AAE on this project. First, AAE is changing firewall brands and technologies with this project; hence, the IT Department currently lacks the knowledge to program a Cisco ASA 5516-X next-generation firewall from scratch.
