A STUDY ON JOB STRESS AMONG THE EMPLOYEES OF BANKING SECTOR IN TRICHY REGION
INTRODUCTION:
Pressure is part and parcel of all work and helps to keep one motivated. But excessive pressure can lead to stress, which undermines performance, is costly to employers and can make people ill. Stress is ubiquitous and has become an integral part of everyday living, an unavoidable consequence of modern living. Population
The population selected for this particular study is employees of Banks in Trichy district of Tamil Nadu
Sampling
The sampling population of this research includes 1000 employees of Bank in Trichy district, of TamilNadu. This research followed the systematic random sampling method representative population. The population belongs to an age group of 30-50. Both male & Female population considered in this research.
SCOPE OF THE STUDY: Stress becomes a strategic threat to any business. Bank employees are expected to give significant support to the changing process of the organization, but not for developing stress. Especially in the financial sector employees are highly intelligent and have been recruited for their leadership abilities and are having to learn to cope with a new organizational identity. Stress is additive and hence they require support. The scope of the study includes the identification of genesis of stress and suggestions to alleviate the cause. Being a study it also used to analyze the organizational power to solve the problem on their own and the future viability of the adopted methods. Thus it ultimately ensures profitability and survival of the organization. And it also forms a model, which can be adopted by other organizations of its kind.

There is a difference between pressure and stress. Pressure can be positive and a motivating factor, and is often essential in a job. It can help us achieve our goals and perform better. Stress occurs when this pressure becomes excessive.
According to Janeway1, “stress is a physical or psychological stimulus which, when impinging upon an individual , produces strain or disequilibrium”.1 Stress is a biological, physiological and behavioural response to environmental demands. An appropriate amount of stress has protective and adaptive functions however a high amount of stress can cause pathological changes or even death.4 Exposure to stress can lead to painful emotions such as anxiety or depression, as well as physical illness.3 People under an overwhelming amount of stress may experience tachycardia, palpitations and rapid breathing.7
Stress is described as a psychological and psychological and physical strain or tension generated by physical, emotional, social, economical or occupation circumstances, events, or experience that are difficult to manage or endure (Andrew M. Colman, 2015). Stress can affect all aspects of your life, which include your emotional, behaviours thinking ability, and psychical health (webmd, 2016). More than one in five Australian have reported mental health issue as a source of stress (psychology, 2014).
(b) Subjects: The subjects were 4 males and 4 females between the ages of 30 and 36. All participants were staffs who are working in a head-office of Save the Children organization in Yangon, and they all are graduated. They are selected by using the convenience sampling method.
What is stress? How does stress affect my everyday life, and how can I overcome these stressors in my life? Dictionary.com says that stress is “the physical pressure, pull, or other force exerted on one thing by another; strain.” meaning that something is putting pressure on my life and one stress can lead to another strain. The main aspects that puts me under stress are college, and my job, which can be overcome by managing my time, finding what exactly it is that is putting me under stress, and by doing something I love.
The word stress is a collective term and is used widely across many professions yet it is not clearly defined and has no limitations. Stress is the new norm, be you a person, pet, practitioner, old or young, stress dominates life and appears in magazines, on television and in newspapers that promise guaranteed cures. My understanding of stress is that it is negative and can be categorised into two major groups; physical stress and mental stress. Within these categories the word stress is used as a condition, minor irritation, and crisis or even as an outcry. The word stress is derived from the Latin verb stringo meaning to draw tight, graze or pluck (Hayward, 2005) and the meaning of stress is forever being expanded. There is some
In our textbook, stress is defined as an event that exerts physical or psychological force or pressure on a person. In psychology, stress is any demand made on an organism to adapt, cope, or adjust. (Nevid & Rathus, 2013)
The selected theories and concepts for this research will be used in designing the questions and setting the measures for the questionnaire and the interviews as well. In addition, the theories and behavioral models will be used in analyzing and better understand the data obtained and in setting up the results of the research.
Stress is experienced when the demands on an individual outweighs the coping measures to handle the demands. Stress is not a diagnosis, but a process that depends largely on how a person is able to handle stressful situations. One person might get stressed rather easily while another does not stress over the exact same experience. The fear of failing can cause pressure creating stress, the more important the situation may be the more stressed a person can feel.
Stress at work is quite a new perceptible fact of contemporary lifestyles. Occupational stress adds a load to physical health. Work related stress in the life of controlled workers, thus, have an effect on the wellbeing of organizations. Stress, either fast or steady, can bring risky body-mind disorders. Instant disorders such as nervousness attacks, worry, sleeplessness, tenseness and muscle pain can all result in unrelieved health problems. It has an effect on immune system, cardiovascular and nervous systems and direct individuals to regular addictions. Like "stress reactions", "relaxation responses" and stress management techniques are some of the important built-in response systems. Unfortunately, at present, don't get peaceful and calming situations without asking. For relaxation one has to struggle to create such circumstances. [19]
Qualitative, this study uses numbers and statistics in the methods and uses “IBM SPSS Statistics 19” to analyze the numbers.
The scope of this study is restricted to examining the manpower training and development needs at Zenith Bank Plc.
Descriptive research is undertaken for study. Data collection was done from the website of BSE & SEBI of last two years.
