The first difference that I notice is the title obviously “A Study in Pink” (Sherlock Episode) and “A Study in Scarlet” (Sherlock Holmes story). Are the titles important? I believe the series “A Study in Pink” was given that title because the storyline of the season was about a Woman who were murdered wearing pink. The titles aren’t the only differences that were spotted, there are several other differences. The second difference is that in A Study in Pink, the victim is a woman wearing pink. The women left a big clue by clawing "Rache" on the floor. Sherlock disregards the suggestion from the forensic expert Anderson, that it is the German term for revenge and settles on "Rachel” believing that the victim died before finishing the scrawl.

Malala Yousafzai once stated, “Let us remember: One book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world”. In one’s life, there is always someone or something steering them in a direction. It can be as complex as an intervention held for someone, or as simple as a small talk with someone that is idolized. In the short memoir, The Color of Water, by James McBride, James takes the simple route. He is portrayed as a young careless boy throughout the story and starts going into a downward spiral after death approaches those around him. Due to all of his bad habits such as drugs and cutting class, he is sent to other family members and connects with a strange man on the street corner. This man turns out to play a huge role in shaping what james will become. Throughout James McBride’s life, the most influential person on his identity was Chicken Man.
The purpose of our project in the form of a drawing is to represent the life of Janie Mae Crawford. The image of the world shaped like a heart has both a light side and a dark side. In general, the world is in the shape of a heart to show how Janie views her world: completely involved in the concept of love. Janie, constantly encompassed within goals of finding and understanding love, views the world as a giant melting pot of love, and all she has to do is travel the planet to find it. The light side of the planet demonstrates her hopes and dreams of finding her true love, searching for it with optimism and joy in believing that her love is out there somewhere, and it will satisfy her. However, the shaded, dark side of the planet represents
In “The Dying Detective,” it explained that Sherlock Holmes was literally dying from the prick of poison. To add, it explained that Mr. Culverton Smith was an expert on the poison that was injected into the ivory box; later we learned that Mr. Culverton Smith was indeed the one who injected it into the box in the first place. In “An Invitation to a Murder,” the crossbones on the prescription medication was believed to be a symbol of poison. Additionally, all of the supplies on the center of the table were items that would typically kill a person; yet, none of those belongings killed Mr. Abbott. Furthermore, both stories were premeditated murders. Mrs. Abbott knew that the twelve intelligent inspectors would prevent her from giving her husband the suspicious medication. Therefore, Mr. Abbott’s heart would stop beating and he would eventually die. On the other hand, Sherlock Holmes planned out every detail of the situation and what would happen. He knew that Dr. Watson would be concerned about Mr. Culverton Smith arriving and would like to stay. This created a witness for Mr. Culverton Smith confessing the crime he committed. Lastly, both of the passages had evidence that exemplified situational irony. Mrs. Abbott was dressed in black to grieve the death of herself and her disabled husband. Moreover, the investigators that were going to witness the murder, became the murderers. In the other story,

, once acquired comes with the consequence of being objectified under the red light to the master’s male gaze. Hence referring back to Kong who mentions the power these women gain is ironic. Their victory is the attention of the master’s affection for one night. This further emphasizes the lack of power and importance women have under the Confucian ideologies. Perhaps the red tones

Recently the class and I read a short story called Blue Against White, which focuses on the importance of memories during childhood and how it affects one's life. Jeannette C. Armstrong the author, uses writing techniques like symbolism through common motifs to aid the reader to have a better understanding of the the hidden morals within the story. In a dynamic scene near the end of the blockbuster The Color Purple, the character Shug Avery engages in a soul-stirring rendition of a gospel song called God Is Trying To Tell You Something. Shug Avery in The Color Purple could be described as a prodigal daughter Shug is portrayed as a woman of the world who loved to party, loved to dress, and loved to sports men. In the church scene near the end of the film, we see Shug performing in a "Juke Joint" owned by Harpo, the oldest son of Albert aka "Mister. The sound of the anointed song coming from the nearby church caused the band at Harpo's Juke Joint to stop playing. Shug was a force to stop and listen to the song coming from her father's church. As if God was telling Shug to finally change her ways and God telling her father to finally forgive and accept her. Then their lost relationship had been found as they embraced with tears of forgiveness. I love the part where she tells her father see daddy sinners have souls too. God was trying to tell several people something. At the end of the song, Albert finally does the right thing and takes steps to reunite Celie with her sister Nettie. The scene is one of the most powerful and touching moments in the movie. Such a wonderful scene, it seems to be a life changing moment for everyone in the movie.
A rainbow consists of different types of beautiful colors, and each of them has a role that makes the rainbow vibrant and colorful. Colors have different meanings in each and one of them. However, it can be interpreted as more than one meaning depending on how it is used. In the novel, Beloved, by Toni Morrison, colors play a significant role throughout the book as it makes the story more interesting and helps depict and describe how the characters are feeling or what they are doing. Beloved, is about a woman named, Sethe, who was a slave when she was young and had to kill her daughter because she does not want her to suffer a life like hers. Later on, Beloved, the baby ghost that haunts the house has returned as grown women and causes problems
The Color Purple by Alice Walker is a true testament to the oppression of women. The main character in the novel is affected by her physical surroundings, in the way of people, which ultimately construct who she is as a person. Celie, the main character, has a father who sexually mistreats her that leads to many of her psychological traits. Later, Celie’s husband abuses her and treats her as if she were less than a human being. Finally, Shug is the end of all things bad for Celie as at first she is a curse but in the end she is a gift. Physical surroundings afflicting this main character are ubiquitous throughout The Color Purple.
Color fills our world with beauty. We delight in the colors of a magnificent sunset and in the bright red and golden-yellow leaves of autumn. We are charmed by gorgeous flowering plants and the brilliantly colored arch of a rainbow. We also use color in various ways to add pleasure and interest to our lives. For example, many people choose the colors of their clothes carefully and decorate their homes with colors that create beautiful, restful, or exciting effects. By their selection and arrangement of colors, artists try to make their paintings more realistic or expressive.
