Takuhaibin (Japan’s express post service)
Takuhaibin or express post service is a postal service offered in Japan. In this essay, I will be discussing based on research I have done, characteristics of the service that are offered that are not offered by similar services in New Zealand as well as major Takuhaibin companies and future development of the service. I will be supplying graphs and data to support these claims. Finally concluding with my thoughts and opinions on the Takuhaibin system as well as how I think some of the ideas that are being used by the Ta-Q-Ben system can further add to the courier system of New Zealand. I will then talk about the future expansion and plans for the future of the Takuhaibin system.

Although Pace courier offered by Express couriers limited (2016) offer a service that allows someone to post a package in the morning and get it delivered by the same day’s evening excluding Sunday as there is no postal service offered on Sunday in New Zealand. However, courier post in New Zealand does not offer the various times (including Sunday) and items that can be delivered which Takuhaibin offers its customers. Takuhaibin is although expanding into countries such as Taiwan and France as well as parcels being able to be sent to most overseas countries from Japan.
In Japan, there are three major companies that supply the Takuhaibin system and one that focuses on express post for business. These companies are Yamato transport with 46.3% of the market share, followed by Sagawa express with 33.88% and Yu-pack with 11.9% (graph 1. Yamato transport LTD. 2015)
From the graph provided not only can you see that Yamato is the largest company but there is also a steady increase of overall express packages getting sent rising by 500 million packages from 2005 till 2015. This graph also shows the growth of Yu-pack as well as the decline into nonexistence of JP-express which use to be the third largest competitor among companies offering Takuhaibin. This trend shows just how competitive the environment of Takuhaibin is in the Japanese market. This is due to the amount of money that is made each year
The United States Postal Service and the Pony Express are similar in many ways, but also have their differences. The Pony Express was the way people in the 1800's got their mail, but was retired when telegraph lines started to sprout in the American West. Our United States Postal Service is how people now receive their letters, packages, and cards.
Except the Royal Mail we can find a lot of couriers which we can use, for example DPD, DHL, TNT UK Express Service.
The express companies delivered tremendous amount of packages. The big three players, Federal Express, UPS, and Airborne Express, collectively delivered more than five million
Royal Mail is the largest provider of postal services in the United Kingdom and one of the largest postal service providers in the world. This paper analyzes
The availability of substitutes is medium mainly because there aren’t a large number of substitutes out there for express mail outside of the industry. Most next day deliveries are business documents, parcels, letters, ect, not typically cargo. So substitutes could include email and faxes, both are faster and cheaper than express mailing. Depending on the nature of the business, video conferencing or the old fashion telephone could be used. If the parcel is going somewhere local maybe could use bike messengers, or just hand deliver. There are also the second tier players, like RPS, DHL and TNT, while they are still in the delivery industry; they tend to specialize in areas other than express mail. With RPS, it is second day service at 40-50% less, and a business that does a large amount of overseas or international express shipments may want to substitute with DHL or TNT, who specialize and differentiate themselves in the international market.
Q1. How and why has the express mail industry structure evolved in recent years? How have the changes affected small competitors?
His approach on Australia Post’s strategy and future survival has similarities to the Three Horizons Methodology, where Australia Post’s core business – letters delivery, is rapidly declining but continuing to generate considerable revenue - Horizon 1, the parcels delivery business can be considered the Horizon 2, which is the organisation’s current growth platform. Finally, within the Horizon 3 category is Fahour’ s vision and push to develop innovative technologies, such as a new digital identity business on the back of its existing trusted platform in order for Australia Post to successfully survive within an integrated digital
The US express mail industry is highly consolidated. 85% of the market is served by 3 service providers. There are six second tier players who serve the remaining 15%. FedEx and UPS lead the industry in services and innovation. The following trends have been observed in this Industry.
The industry is defined as the Domestic US Express Mail industry. This includes overnight and second day delivery. In order to assess the attractiveness of the industry, a Porters' Five Forces analysis has been conducted as follows.
The express mail industry can easily be considered an inherently tough industry to operate within given the myriad of factors that come into play, such as unions, government regulations, cost of technological advancement, and international borders to name a few. Despite this, the industry could be seen as offering opportunities, which could be seized by attracting customers based on the quality of the service being offered. Consequently, this also encouraged mimicking between
Stackry is supporting the United Stated online merchant, ship to global from 1986 onwards. The variety of carriers Stackry uses to provide our customers choice in term of competitive price, tracking information, the speed of delivery, and reliability responsive. Example primary carriers like FedEX, USPS, DHL Worldwide Express and Global Mail. The ranges from premium FedEx provide an offer on express shipping. Likewise, Global Mail offered detail tracking to help out customers saving on shipping. In addition, our shipping companies handle a quite wide range of maximum packages sizes services.
That being said, Federal Express is faced with an uphill task in growing its market share. The target segment in this case is corporates and it is very difficult to get corporates to change buying patterns. It is faced with stiff competition from incumbent Emery Air which currently has the highest recall and also seen as a reliable freight service provider. Additionally, it is trying to market a product that is fairly standardized and does not have many distinguishing features.
In the past there was no thing as overnight express delivery for packages or freight. Then the top 3 competitors in the delivery service industry that held 85% of the market were Airborne Express (AE), United Parcel Service (UPS) and Federal Express (FedEx) and, the remaining market share was among six second-tier companies. In the past few years, the express mail businesses had grown extremely fast due to the ability to provide and fulfill overnight shipping accompanied by next-morning delivery services for both individuals and businesses customers. By 1996, this segment of the expedited shipment delivery had grown to a $16-17 billion dollar industry business in the US alone.
PEST analysis is an imperative strategy tool used for a company, mainly to oversee and assists in project management. PEST analysis stands for the political, economic, social and technological factors of an organization. This tool is used as an aspect of an organization's competitive strategy to analyze and assess the critical external factors that may positively or negatively impact the organization (Kadlubek, 2016). When a PEST analysis is performed, the external factors are analyzed and monitor the external marketing environment. A company may consist of several external factors that can bolster or impede the development of an organization; therefore, it is beneficial and more productive to subdivide the external analysis into more feasible segments (Frederick, Agnes and John, 2011).
The culture of a place is an integral part of its society whether that place is a remote Indian village in Brazil or a highly industrialized city in Western Europe. The culture of Japan fascinates people in the United States because, at first glance, it seems so different. Everything that characterizes the United States--newness, racial heterogeneity, vast territory, informality, and an ethic of individualism-- is absent in Japan. There, one finds an ancient and homogeneous society, an ethic that emphasizes the importance of groups, and a tradition of formal behavior governing every aspect of daily living, from drinking tea to saying hello. On the surface at least, U.S. and Japanese
