This paper will discuss on the language used widely by Ali G. After reading and watching his video, it is quite apparent that he always used the Jamaican Creole to communicate with people. Basically, the section below will cover the phonological, lexical and grammatical analysis of Ali G speech on the basis of his video. Sebba (2007) mentioned that In 1999,Ali G made his first appearance hosting interviews on a late-night comedy programmme. Ali G styles himself a ‘hip hop journalist’ and presents himself as a youthful gang leader –of ambiguous ethnicity but based on an apparently black stereotype – complete with stereotypical mannerisms, language and dress in a hip hop style. (p.1) Generally, in all his videos and interviews, he openly
Barry uses diction in order to say that scientific research is uncertain, but can sometimes be good. For example, he says, “If a researcher succeeds… the perfect tool will be available for purchase, just as laboratory mice can now be ordered from supply houses.” The use of simile suggests that scientific research can be rewarding when done correctly, as shown through the comparison of results to something as simple as buying supplies at a store. This tells the readers that uncertainty is not always a bad thing, and good things come to those who deal with it well. In addition, the author states, “If [scientists] are at least partly correct their probing acts like a crystal to precipitate an order out of chaos.” The use of imagery suggests that
The guidelines that Redish puts forth in her book can definitely be shown throughout the article you reference from Bon Appétit. I especially liked how the author writes in a familiar language and uses popular references like that of Beyoncé or #obsessed. Redish writes, “[w]riting can have character and flavor and still be clear” (4062). It certainly goes a long way in making the piece of writing on whole more sociable and user-friendly. The author has clearly gone to the extra effort of matching her tone to what she perceives as the persona of the reader/user. Because of this, the article is a great intro piece to invite customers to explore more of the website or, like you mentioned, find the perfect 2017 cookbook. Likewise, Food52.com
Johnson did use the word session very repetitively . I think it's because he wanted to inform the people that congress and he are working hard to make an influence on America. For him to mention how the session has accomplished over the last year and how hard they word really shows that they care about the American people. It makes the audience feel like they can come out of poverty with his plans. The imagery you used I like it remains me of the saying the sun will always sunshine no matter what. Johnson gives a lot of hope to the people by being personal and he also had a firm voice and action plan. This made congress and the people feel like they have a sense of trust with
D. Watkins is a writer whose work has become famous across the world. He’s published in several big magazines and has had several interviews on TV. He writes his stories to try and bring more awareness about uneducated low income African Americans. He is a professor at Coppin State University and teaches English. His goal is to help educate his students as well as others through reading. In his article (my neighborhood revolution, one letter at a time) he stated “I am going to do everything in my power to make reading cool and destroy that Dub mentality, which is so common in Baltimore and many other low-income areas across America”
Zadeh is an immigrant from Urmia Iran, plagued by the injustices and maddening systems of American immigration policies. In addition, once he does eventually get into the country, the blockades to starting up his business have no interest in easing off. By exposing these malpractices to a larger audience, Zadeh wants to convince readers that immigration policies are more of a hindrance than a help. Zadeh’s main rhetoric use is pathos, and his emotional ties to his experience gives the reader a very clear and thoughtful description of the horrors of immigration. However, he doesn’t shy away from other appeals, he makes sure to back up his claims with facts given by very credible sources and personal involvement. Since he is a co founder/CEO
As I read pages 221-223, it reveals Ali’s infertility and inability to be Hassan’s father. It was hinted that Baba was the father due to Amir’s reaction. This passage serves as a mirror for me as Amir’s anger towards his father because of the disloyalty shown has resonated with my own anger towards disloyalty. However, Amir had disowned his best friend, then discovering that Hassan is his half-brother. Just as I Amir could not speak about a secret he has learned. As Amir is irritated he stated that he felt “felt like a man sliding down a steep cliff, clutching at shrubs and tangles of brambles and coming up empty-‐handed.” As I reacted to a wrong done to me, I felt as if I was trapped and had to be decisive about my later actions, otherwise
The rhetorical situation refers to “a situation in which people’s understanding can be changed through messages.” (Zarefsky, 12). The rhetorical situation analysis consists of four elements: audience, occasion, speaker and speech, each assessing the quality of speech. In this essay, I will analyze the rhetorical situation of the historical speech “The Challenger Address” delivered by the 40th president of the United States, Ronald Reagan.
Following the 9/11 attack in America, Bush declares Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda as the enemy. Bush clearly states that the 9/11 attacks were an initiative action of war and coins the term, “War on Terror” which has developed and is also adaptable with other terms, such as “War on Drugs”. His speech also educates his people about Islamic terrorism alongside their practices and mentality. Bush seems extremely patriotic and expresses great anger and almost thinks for his citizens by saying, “our grief has turned to anger”. Nonetheless, Bush feels strongly about defending America’s freedom and won’t back down to this violence. Furthermore, Bush’s speech was extremely effective as the crowd was very dense, actively involved through cheers and claps. This however, may have induces a mob mentality as an individual action of support such as a cheer could easily ripple through the crowd and suddenly everyone
Malcolm X’s narrative story about his interesting experience with learning to read and write while in prison was spectacular. Having the drive and want to completely copy an entire dictionary and practice reading it back to yourself is something different in itself. Not many people even like reading, but yet Malcolm wanted to apply himself and learn how to read and write. Not only that, but he never gave up either. After a few days of writing dictionary pages, and reading them he didn’t stop. This all began when an inmate at Charlestown Prison made Malcolm feel envious of his knowledge. Bimbi the inmate, caused all of this. It’s crazy to think that one person could impact another’s life so much.
The context in which a statement is made can change the entire meaning of what was said. This is why many times people will use context as a defense for statements they make that offend or cause some sort of public backlash. The manner in which a person delivers a message and what messages the rhetor chooses to deliver can be a great indication of foundation of that persons value and belief system. There are a number of value systems present in Malcolm X’s “The Ballot or the Bullet” speech that he delivered in the storied election year of 1964. There are many statements made in the ballot or the bullet
In the year 2008 the world was a much different place. Before countless racial protests and riots in streets, before NFL players knelt during the National Anthem for what they believed in, and before our president spoke of nonsensical chauvinistic principles on a regular basis, our country appeared to have a greater sense of unification. This unifying bond between the American people was due in part by Barack Obama, whose entire campaign to become president may have been the most difficult struggle for anybody in the lineage of presidential candidates to go through. As part of his strategy to win over voters and soothe the skepticism of whites who may have had any doubting questions, Obama gave this speech on race; a speech which still
April 3, 1964, Malcolm X gives his well renowned speech; The Ballot or the Bullet in Cleveland Ohio. His purpose behind the speech is to encourage African-Americans of the United States to stand up to the unfair treatment that he believes they receive. Throughout the speech, Malcolm X creates an ambition in the audience, encouraging change through the numerous uses of ethos, logos, and pathos. Malcolm X uses his personal experiences to show the audience that he has experienced the same negativity that they do everyday. X suggests everyone should be treated equally; religion, gender and race aside. His audience was made up of a majority of African-Americans, he uses the common ground of wanting to achieve equal treatment to show his audience he is on the same side as them. Through the organization of the speech, it is rhetorically effective. He practices the phrase “The Ballot or the Bullet” which uses repetition, forcing listeners to remember the phrase which later becomes more effective. X begins using ethos by introducing himself, immediately gaining the attention of the audience as well as respect of the audience. X then makes the current problem in the African-American community extremely clear to the audience, this is his use of pathos, where he engages them in his thought process and bringing them in using emotion. The speech uses rhetoric to emotionally and logically
Ladies and gentlemen, Sadat lived through the absurdities of war. He grew up in a world that was full of chaos and destruction. He lost his very own brother when fighting for Egypt- and that has been a driving force, in Saddat’s holistic ambition to achieve peace in the Middle East. Everything Sadat speaks about, is truly authentic and his sincerity is a contributing factor to the textual integrity of the address. Saddat skilfully illuminates the fundamental values of unity and equality, capitalising on both the Logos and Pathos by delving into biblical beliefs of mutuality between the Arabs and Jews, “Stand together, and erect… an edifice that will shine as a beacon for generations to come.” The striking symbol of a ‘beacon’ reveals Sadat’s
You think very well. you write about any things without any fear, like this one, death.
On August 8, 1942 in Bombay, India, Gandhi gave a speech to many individuals in order to call for a peaceful, yet determined, resistance for the independance of India. Gandhi is speaking to influence the people of India to stand up and declare their independence from Great Britain. The idea of a peaceful protest is a main point of Gandhi’s speech. Gandhi was a very influential orator. A major aspect of Gandhi’s speech is the use of ethos and pathos. Although ethos and pathos are very apparent, a lot of his speech is driven by the effective use of logos.
