On a Wednesday evening at 9:05pm in Minnesota, an African American couple was driving in their car with a four-year-old daughter in the back seat. After being pulled aside by Joronimo Yanez, a police officer, for a broken tail light, Philando Castile, the driver, stopped his car. Officer Yanez asked Castile for his license and registration. Castile handed the officer his car license and registration, but also told him he has a weapon in his car, for which he was licensed to carry. Officer Yanez immediate words were “Don’t move!” As Castile put his hands up where the officer could clearly see them, officer Yanez shot him repeatedly four times in the arm to the horror of Castile, his girlfriend, and their four-year-old daughter. Completely stupefied by the event, Castile’s girlfriend, Reynolds, took out her phone and began streaming an online video directly to Facebook showing the immediate aftermath of the incident. In the video, Reynolds narrates the accident’s story and exclaimed, “You shot four bullets into him, sir. He was just getting his license and registration, sir. Please don’t tell me he’s dead.” While recording, her four-years-old asked “Mammy, I’m scarred!” Reynolds answered, “It’s okay, I’m right here with you.” Officer Yanez returned and ordered Reynolds on her knees out of the car. Still being recorded, the other officers on the scene asked officer Yanez of his mindset, checking if he’s ok, completing ignoring the true victim, Castile. Castile was left bleeding

Explain the role of capitalism in the 100-year growth of Nederlander Concerts. How does Nederlander benefit from each of the fundamental rights of capitalism?
The 18th Proposal of the 83rd Quarter was finally accepted on a cold morning in the capital. The Proposal’s base was not a new idea; there had been many similar proposals that were denied, most notably: the 45th Proposal of the 62nd Quarter, the 29th Proposal of the 28th Quarter, the 10th Proposal of the 9th quarter, and the Population Maintenance Act, Harris Act and the Commodity Sustainability Act (the three of which predated the quarterly legislation system enacted to streamline filing and make legislation more effective. (The quarterly legislation system was enacted by the Flannigan Act, which, because of the very act, was the last Act in this nation’s history)). Nearly every year, a Proposal in this manner was suggested, and generally shut down for lack of pragmatism and lack of cooperation from members of the Congress. Thirty-eight other nations had enacted similar policies regarding population regulation. America had actually been on of the last of the “Civilized Nations” to enact such a policy. When the 18/83, as it was colloquially called, was enacted, all civilized nations in the northern hemisphere had enacted regulations regarding all four CCCN recognized regulation types.

In October of 2015 in Palm Beach County Florida a young African American was shot to death though he had caused no harm. After performing at a concert, Corey Jones was headed home and while traveling on I-95 his car broke down and he was stranded on the side of the road. While stranded he contacted his brother to notify him of the situation. He then contacted roadside services and sat patiently waiting for them to arrive. Officer Nouman K. Raja dressed in plain clothing in an unmarked vehicle pulled up to Mr. Jones’ car noting that this is taking place between the hours of 2:00 and 3:00am. Mr.
This case provides the story of the fatal shooting of Laquan McDonald (17 years) in Chicago by Police Officer Jason Van Dyke on or about October 21, 2014. McDonald died after having been shot 16 times late on that evening by Van Dyke as he and others responded to a report of a man armed with a knife breaking into vehicles in a truck yard (CQ Research, 2016). McDonald, who had a record of juvenile arrests, allegedly refused the officers’ demands to drop his knife (CQ Research, 2016). After 400 days of the incident, the video from a police vehicle showed that McDonald, who was holding a knife was walking parallel, but away from the officers when he was shot 16 times by Van Dyke (Police Charges, 2015). The public has a right to know as much as possible about the rules governing the police and about investigations into allegations of police misconduct. Transparency holds police accountable and accountability builds trust in Police Department.
Have you ever wondered the differences between deaf and hearing cultures? Last week I had a chance to watch "See What I Mean" and this video gave me a humorous and enlightening look at the differences between them. In this movie "See What I Mean", issues such as attitudes toward time, taking time to say goodbye, complain about the use of phones and pagers, sharing information, giving and receiving criticism, and comments on personal appearance are explored and humorously discussed from the point of view of both cultures.
Walter Scott’s shooting by a police officer in April 2015 defines the racism in the American policing from a new perspective. In the incident, 33-year-old American police officer Michael Slager shot Walter Scott eight times in the back when Scott tried to run away from him. Slager had asked Scott to pull over because of some issues in the taillight of the car. Slager claimed before the court that he had to take this action because Scott had taken away his taser, and he was afraid that Scott might be a threat to his own life. However, later evidence from Feidin Santana, a passerby, revealed to the media a video that Santana had shot at the time of this incident. In this video, it was evident that Slager and Scott indulged in a little brawl before Scott tried to run away. Slager had his taser intact because the video clarifies that while tackling the dead body of Scott, Slager was seen handling his taser - it was not in the victim 's hands. Slager was dismissed with immediate effect from his post, and he was accused of murder (Infobase). The injustice of Walter Scott 's death clearly demonstrates that it is crucial for all police officers to wear body cameras. Police officers in body cameras will prevent violence between officers and civilians, hold officers accountable for inappropriate behavior, and serve as on-hand evidence for future judicial actions.
Kaepernick began his silent, kneeling protest at the beginning of last season, not as an assault against the United States military or the flag but as a dissent against a system that has, with a great degree of consistency, failed to hold accountable police who kill unarmed citizens. Since he did this, forty-one unarmed individuals have been fatally shot by police in the United States, twelve of them African-American, according to a database maintained by the Washington Post. The city of St. Louis recently witnessed three days of protests after the acquittal of Jason Stockley, the former officer who, while still working for the city’s police force, fatally shot Anthony Smith, an eighteen-year-old African-American motorist who had led officers on a chase. Stockley emerged from his vehicle, having declared that he would “kill the motherfucker,” then proceeded to fire five rounds into the car. Later, a firearm was found on the seat of Smith’s car, but the weapon bore only Stockley’s DNA. The issue is not imaginary.
Enter Charles Kinsey, 47, a behavior therapist in the Miami area. This past Monday, while Kinsey was attempting to help one of his patients that has autism, he was shot in the leg. Prior to this, Kinsey can be shown on video trying to get his patient to listen to him, and also talking with the officer, all while his hand are in the air and he lies on back. After the officers withdrew their weapons, Kinsey explained that it was not necessary, as his patient only had a truck. Ensuing the fired shots, the officers handcuffed Kinsey, checked him for weapons, and left him on the ground without medical help for 20 minutes. When the officer was asked why he shot Kinsey, he replied that he didn 't know.
As a part of assignment, I watched a video in my PPG-103 class on October 18, 2016, showcasing the abundance of clean water supply in the houses of the First Nation community in Manitoba. The video shows the struggles in the lives of a First Nation community, which is based in Garden Hill in Northern Manitoba. The struggle being a lack of access to clean water for drinking and other household purposes. The video shows a family of nine members with no running water on their taps for over a week. Adam Keno, who is a senior of 69 years of age has to fetch water in pails by chipping a hole in the ice on the lake which is quite a walk from his house, even sometimes get water from one of the community wells. Moreover the video shows how some families do not even have access to proper sanitary washrooms. A senior of 82 years old Moyer Taylor uses a portion of his bedroom as toilet, as he has very limited ability to use the outhouse toilet due to his health conditions. However, at the end of the video it can be seen that there is hope for the community as the Mennonite Central Committee and the International relief organization have investigated the situation by travelling the area with the former chief of the community Mr. Harper and are willing to help the First Nation community. As I watched the video, my initial reaction was me being very shocked. It is quite hard to believe that a situation as such still exists in this country. My beliefs in equal rights for everyone in Canada
In the article, “Shooting of Philando Castile”, on Wikapedia.org, Officer Jeronimo Yanez comes face to face with his own implicit bias when pulling over African American, Philando Castile and his passenger when believed to be matching the description of a local robbery occurring moments before. Officer Jeronimo Yanez made a personal discretion on the African American when suspecting he was reaching for a gun when asked to pull out his license and registration. Officer Jeronimo was alerted “Castile told the officer he was licensed to carry a weapon and had one in his pants pocket” (“Shooting of Philando Castile”). Officer Jeronimo Yanez takes it upon himself to follow through and shoot Philando when fearing he was reaching to pull out a gun, ultimately resulting in the fatal injury of Philando Castile. Suddenly, implicit bias clouded Officer Yanez discretion leading him to make a split decision. In this case, and in an overall aspect in the criminal justice system and it is an individual’s moral responsibility to take control and either except the bias or take an alternative route and do something about it rather than ignore
Although much has improved, many black Americans feel targeted and uncomfortable when in the presence of an officer. Their reasons for their fear have been because of events in which violence and death has been the outcomes of routine traffic stops, like in the case of Philando Castile. On July 6, 2016, Minnesota Police Officer Jeronimo Yanez pulled over Philando Castile with his girlfriend and 4-year-old daughter in the
A young man’s brutal death at the hands of the police is found justified in a court of law due to his “suspicious” appearance: a black hoodie and his hands in his pocket. An elderly woman is fatally shot in her home for her relation to a suspected criminal. A married man with two toddlers is choked to death after a minor traffic stop by an officer who later claimed that his unarmed victim was wielding a gun. These people all have a few commonalities: the color of their skin, their presumed guilt at first sight, and their ultimate unjustified death administered by the law force. These are not uncommon occurrences. Due to the staggeringly disproportionate rate of African-Americans killed by the police, and the underlying rampant racial profiling, police brutality towards blacks in America must be called to light.
