GM Holden Ltd known as Holden, is an Australian automobile manufacturer that operates in Australasia having it 's headquarter in Port Melbourne, Victoria. The firm was initiated in 1856 as a saddlery manufacturer (as J.A. Holden & Co.) in South Australia by James Alexander Holden. Later in 1885, German-born H.A. Frost joined the business as a junior partner and the firm was renamed to Holden & Frost Ltd. However the company was given kick-start by Holden 's grandson who had an interest in automobiles. In 1908, the duo of Holden and Frost moved into the business of minor repairs of car upholstery. In order to grow the revenue and profits, a new small-car production plant was build by Holden in Adelaide in 2010 (Holden annual report, 2012). Holden paid attention to become a global player depends on the GM plant in Thailand. This plant became a base to help Holden expand its reputation in Asia-Pacific region and reduce the production costs for the production (Ibisworld 2013).

While some people would argue that cutting protection will reduce employment. Most industries that were heavily protected during the 1970’s and 1980’s still suffered losses of employment and were not efficient enough to compete in export markets.

World War 1 changed the world around it. More men fought than one could comprehend. World War 1 almost destroyed an entire generation of men. Australia is unlikely to fight against newly appearing and developing countries in the production of a low-cost and large manufacturing, especially with our neighbours. In fact, as we are constantly reminded, Australia is a high wage, high skilled country and could be more successful if changes regulations are needed to meet the demand that this brings. According to the case, Brazil’s first step toward developing their automobile industry was the creation of a “target plan” in 1956, which in theory gave automobile companies an ultimatum: produce their vehicles in Brazil with 90% to 95% local content in five years and have financial incentives included or leave the Brazilian market all together. Brazil’s motive behind this enforcing this plan was most likely in an effort to have the country entitled to the financial incentives that would arise from these multinational automobile companies producing their vehicles in Brazil.

The heavy equipment manufacturing industry, more commonly referred to as “machinery manufacturing,” includes construction equipment, mining equipment, and agricultural machinery. Construction machinery includes earthmoving equipment, concrete equipment and road equipment such as cranes, loaders, draglines, mixers, pavers, and excavators that can be used in the building and mining industries. Agricultural equipment generally refers to compact tractors, combine harvesters, and other farm equipment, while the mining equipment market includes underground mining equipment, portable drilling rigs and parts, crushing machinery, and other screening, washing, and combination equipment.

According to (Rabiul Islam, Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani, Bobby Kusuma and Eric Teh Yew Hong, 2016), to protect the local automobile industry, the Malaysian government has maintained a number of protective measures. It is important to protect the national car since it is still an infant industry. These measures aim to ensure that manufacturers and suppliers are ready to prepare themselves for domestic competition and eventually compete in the international markets. These protective measures include tariff and non-tariff barriers, the local content policies and licensing systems. There are only two national car manufacturers, Proton and Perodua in Malaysia. If to base on the journal above, it is important to protect our national automobile as it is still an infant industry, but Malaysia’s Proton has been in Malaysia industry since 1983 while Perodua has been in this industry since 1994 after launched their first car which is Kancil. Hence, our automobile industry cannot be considered as an infant industry anymore.
