Illusions-The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah
In the late 1900s, in the open prairies and fields of the United States, an adventurous barnstormer ( an adventurous person who flies around offering fun flights for very little money) named Richard is living his dream. He sells 3 dollar rides that last ten minutes. As Richard is flying he sees a white and gold Travel Air 4000, a biplane, and felt the urge to land next to it. When he landed, he met Don Shimoda, the messiah. Don gives Richard a book called the Messiah’s Handbook (A book that if you have any questions you flip it to a random page and read.) and tells Richard that he is a messiah and how everything is and illusion. He

Richard replied, “That one,” as he pointed to the biggest cloud there was. Then he imagined the cloud over a water tower in the distance. Instantly the cloud somehow teleported to directly over the water tower. Don, astonished at how quickly it happened, remarked “Try it again.” Richard tried again, again, again, and again, each time making clouds rain and storm and even forced one to snow, in the middle of summer. Throughout the next few days Richard and Don were just barnstorming, but barely making any money, but they didn’t need much money, because Don was a messiah and therefore his and Richard’s planes did not need fuel. After a week of barnstorming Richard and Don decided to go into a small town and look around for a while. About halfway through the day they went back to their airplanes, which were still in the field that they had left them in. Next Richard determined that he wanted to perform more miracles. “Don!” Shouted Richard. “What, I am right here, there is no need to yell,” responded Don. “I can’t do it anymore,” complained …show more content…
For the next month Richard and Don acted as if nothing had happened and did not talk about anything regarding “The Illusions.” Life was going good for the both of them, they were getting a lot of business and making quite a decent amount of money. Although Richard had not talked about what had happened, he kept asking himself the same question, “What did I do?” “Don...Don wake up,” shouted Richard as he was gently shaking Don to wake him up. “What?” grumbled Don. “What did I do wrong?” questioned Richard “Do what?” “You know,” Richard paused as if waiting for a reply, “remember when I tried to float that wrench a month ago, and I couldn’t?” “Oh yeah. Do you really want to know what you did wrong?” Don mysteriously asked. “Yes!” yelled Richard. “Calm down Richard, it was just a test, I was seeing how you would react to being normal again.” replied Don. There was a long pause as Richard was very disappointed that Don would do that to him. At this point Don realized that Richard was not who he thought he was and thought he was very childish.
“Did I pass the test?” asked Richard.
Don did not reply, so Richard flew away. Don did not go after him, which would result in them never speaking
Someone tried to kill there oxen but Mr. Eddie stopped him and none of the oxen were seriously hurt. The Donners and one of Mrs. Wolfinger’s wagons fell a day behind. A messenger warned them of a snow storm coming. Mr. Donner cut his hand while he and everyone else were hurrying to build a camp in efforts to protect themselves from the storm. They sent John Baptiste out with a letter to the other camp near the lake and when he returned they learned that that camp was doing better than them.
It was a cold winter’s day, with a strong headwind (up to 21 miles per hour) in Kitty Hawk, NC while the Wright brothers were preparing their Flyer on its rails. The glorious contraption, named the Wright Flyer, rolled down its 60-foot steel track to what seemed to be a perilous end, but reaching the end it staggered forward into the air for around twelve seconds. The two men earlier had a coin toss as to who would fly the machine. Wilbur won, and flew in this aeroplane for the first time, Orville the
He is now so overthrown that his wife is sleeping with another man, that he is willing to beat and attack Frank. Readers can portray this as a character's downfall, because this event reveals that he has an angry and violent personality. Richard was not satisfied with beating frank, and his unstable psychological state is what drives him to realize the only way to eliminate his anger is to exterminate Frank. However, after Richard heinously murders Frank he goes through yet again
After this, when he tries to run into his and his mother's house, she decides that it is time for him to grow up and hits him. Essentially, the strain on the family left by Richard's dad leaving caused Richard and his mom to become more realistic with each other and try to survive in their circumstances. As the relationship between Richard’s mother and Richard evolved, it further allowed Richard to be able to live with a single mother and be able to stand up for himself against the
Richard is talking to the prince about how he is only a child, and his eyes are not open to the trickery of the world. He explains to the prince that what someone shows or says to you, may not be what
While interviewing Richard a family friend, Robbie Lieberman chimed in with a statement, “[Richard] would be put in a headlock but as soon as you blink he’d have ‘em on the floor all bloodied and broken, it was funny,” he said. Richard would not come out completely unscathed, this is were a lot his concussions came from. Another thing that Richard would do is that he would fall, a lot. Richard was the neighborhood hellion, so when he would hear the sirens of the police he would run and jump out of there. All it takes is one misstep and now you’ve got another
To begin, Richard causes problems for himself at his job because he is so full of pride. When the
However, the man didn't allow those inner musings to show in his demeanour, aware it was the situation exacerbating the depressing thoughts, and his mindset would eventually brighten. Which it did somewhat when Levine eventually deigned to answer his phone, and the Heiress left him to his own devices to negotiate. Job done by the time she returned, Richard swallowed down his internal anger at smug tone of the man's on the other end of the line, and allowed the sensation of Lexi's arms sliding around his waist, accompanied by her words of trust, to soothe his guilt.
While Richard was growing up he was never treated like a kid, his father always saw him like a grown man. His father was a person who wanted all his commands to be done as he pleased. He is also
In the story, Richard had mentioned about the loss of his identity, his speaks of language and his family. We can see that when he said, “I did not know that I had a family, a history, a culture, a source of spirituality, a cosmology, or a traditional way of living. I had no awareness that I belonged somewhere. I grew up ashamed of my Native identity and the fact that I knew nothing about it”. This shows he was angry that there was no one tell him about where he belonged and his culture.
This whole movie is based around these four men and to discuss them we are going to start with Richard. During this film Richard had
Don is able to do miracles that defy the rules of the world we live in. For example, he can make objects like the tools for his airplane float in the air or move. He uses miracles to keep his plane clean and
In prior years, Richard had gained much public support and accolades for his part in fighting Scotland. He uses this support in his next step of a move for the throne. In the past there had been rumors of Edward the IV being illegitimate, now there was evidence that Edward's son was illegitimate as well, as Edward IV had not been legally wed to Elizabeth when they had Edward V. Upon hearing this news, Richard chose to proceed with caution, only telling chief political players and asking their advice. Richard was wise for these actions. He had been known for his prudence in the past in the war with Scotland. When Edward IV wanted a crushing blow to the Scots, Richard realized that it would be too costly and at the same time England had already accomplished a great feat. Richard pushed
Richard then gloats over his success in a soliloquy stating how he has won her heart even though he is regarded by her as the devil with dissembling looks and he stabbed Edward her love just 3 months earlier. This highlights how he thinks of himself as the best as he brags about his misdeeds as though he is immortal.
If that is the truth than Richard is missing an opportunity to have Mowbray permanently silenced, so as not to have a witness to implicate himself. Though his decision to wish for no violence could be commendable.
