I aspire to pursue a Master 's of Science in Applied Psychology (Industrial/Organizational) at Saint Mary’s University. I have been interested in I/O psychology since I began my undergraduate degree. Due to this, I have prepared myself through research, courses, and relevant experience to pursue a Master 's degree in I/O psychology. I am interested in working with Debra Gillin Oore and Camilla Holmvall and am interested in doing research on conflict and organizational justice. In regard to academic rewards, I have been awarded Dean’s Honours List for the semesters of Winter 2013, Winter 2014, Fall 2014, and Winter 2015. Throughout my undergraduate degree, I have had a significant amount of experience in I/O psychology. I have participated in two independent study courses with Dr. Deborah Powell. In the first course, I behaviourally coded approximately 125 mock interview videos for micro cues (e.g. fidgeting and eyebrow twitches) of interview anxiety. The coding I did was used in Dr. Powell’s recent published paper “Behavioural Expression of Job Interview Anxiety”. The most recent course I did with Dr. Powell was this past semester. I independently conducted a meta-analysis on interview anxiety and performance and have submitted the abstract to the Canadian Psychological Association conference for 2016. This course allowed me to learn about how a meta-analysis is conducted from beginning to end as I was responsible for completing the entire project. In addition, I am a Peer
Being academically more rigorous than my undergraduate, this degree refined my time management and critical analytical skills further, as the volume and quality of work were much higher. Further still, this degree gave me a historical account of psychology, introducing key movements that gave rise to the psychosocial model. The collaborative nature of assignments encouraged throughout my MSc, inspired creativity in my own work and proved to be extremely beneficial when designing multiple layered interventions. This made me aware of the benefits of working in a multidisciplinary team who can share a range of skills when obtaining a shared
Hello, I go by Josh and i am a second year student in the social organizational psychology program. I am currently a TA at teachers College. I have previous experience in Human Resources and recently completed HR internships. I am looking forward to having very engaging class discussions regarding the case homework assignments! I can already tell that this course will be a challenge but I look forward to watching my analytical abilities grow to new heights that I previously did not think was possible.
The researchers state the method used for analysis to answer the research questions. The researchers used meta-analysis to answer the research questions because they drew their data from different published research articles (Haan, & Duckworth, 2008). Meta-analysis allows the researcher to combine results from different studies in order to focus on their contrast. The analysis technique enables a scholar to understand the sources of disagreement among different results and the interesting relationships that emerge from a series of studies or multiple independent studies. In this case, the scholars used previous independent studies on coaching psychology and performed a meta-analysis on the findings in order to establish solutions for their research questions.

Before I answer the questions posed, I believe an explanation is owed regarding this request for admission into Saybrook. I originally applied to The Chicago School of Professional Psychology seeking a degree in business psychology. Since the program was not ready to start for another year, it was suggested that I take courses in the international psychology program. I thoroughly enjoyed this new experience with an opportunity to “think global”. I optioned to remain in this program with a concentration in organizations and systems. As I sojourned through, I was always aware that there was still something missing. Although I loved being part of the IP program, my roots are deeply entrenched in the world of organizational development (OD).
Has there ever been a time in your life where you were going through something and felt sad, and alone? Well I have, and i’ve came across many people who have also. When going through something everyone needs that someone who is there for them to listen, and give advice. In the future, I want to be that someone. My passion is helping people, since I was about 5 I’ve always enjoyed helping out people by doing a variety of things.
At present I am enrolled at Appalachain State University to earn a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a concentration in the social sciences. In the sort term I plan to graduate with my Bachelors. In the long term I plan on entering the workforce for some time after graduation before I pursue a Gaduate program. During my time at AB-Tech and Apalachain State I have constantly gained experience in the field of psychology and other related fields.
Last summer, I hiked the Appalachian Trail with my wonderful partner Travis—who graduated from WCU with a Bachelor’s in Psychology. This was our first big hike together on the AT; spanning over 400 miles in just about 30 days. It was an incredible experience that grounded me and influenced a new-found discipline that only genuinely wholehearted, physically-taxing effort can provide. I was enlightened to my own personal values, goals, and abilities in such a way that I could analyze them as a network, as opposed to individual aspects of my life. I uncovered my path to continue wholly dedicating myself to my studies and my ambitions; I found what was truly important to me and what I truly wanted. Within this experience, I resolved to have “West Chester University” on my
The basic definition of psychology is the study of human minds and there function, with respect to the affects the human mind has on behavior. The field of psychology is one of the most diverse fields that continue to expand and branch out into a plethora of distinguishing subfields; some subfields include retail marketing, legal work, social work and education (Sternberg, 2007). When deciding what career path to select one has to consider the level of education and scholarship they are willing to pursue. Pursuing and completing an undergraduate degree will earn an individual the title of a reflective scholar. A reflective scholar is a graduate that has completed a Bachelors or Bachelorette degree. Next, is the practitioner-scholar, which, is an individual that has graduated with a Masters degree. Following the practitioner-scholar is the scholar-practitioner, who is a graduate that has complete a program at a Doctoral level (McClintock, 2003). Each level of scholarship entails a pristine level of knowledge about the practices, strategies and techniques needed to establish quality and efficient
As a University of Northern Iowa College student taking Soundscapes, I attended a recital by Annalea Milligan on Wednesday Oct. 19th, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. in Davis Hall, a small auditorium, at the Gallagher Bluedorn. Annalea Milligan received her Bachelor of Music degree in performance at Pacific Conservatory of Music, and is currently a first-year graduate student pursuing a Master of Music degree in bassoon performance at University of Northern Iowa. For the first half of the program she played the bassoon in Rhapsody composed by Willson Osborne and then she was accompanied by Mariya Akhadjanova on piano playing Variations on Theme of Pergolesi composed by Otmar Nussio which included I. Arietta, II. Scherzetto, III. Tamburino, IV. Lamento, V. Ostinato, VI. Rapsodia, VII. Elegia, VIII. Barbaresca, IX. Stornello, and X. Danza. Then after a brief intermission Milligan played the bassoon and was accompanied by Serena Hou with the harpsichord playing Concerto in G Minor, RV 495 composed by Antonio Vivaldi which included Presto, Largo, and Allegro, not to mention she also played Bachianas Brasileiras No. 6 composed by Heitor Villa-Lobos and was accompanied by Azeem Ward with the flute which included I. Aria (Choro), and II. Fantasia. I will depict the first and second part of the recital and describe my reaction and total opinion about the overall concert.
My goal is to further develop my career, and grow up to a leadership position within a leading firm that places priority on professionalism and considers their human resources as one of their main assets. I have decided to strive for the master’s program in Human Resources Management because it fits the profile of my career goals. After 7 years of experience in the field I am confident that working in human resources is what makes me feel at my fullest potential, and a life changing decision I have made for my
At this point in my life I am eager to continue my education in the hopes of mastering my purpose of helping others. I realize that by way of consequence of difference, the intersectionality of many factors of an individual’s life can lead to negative experiences and this is an aspect of society I hope to change. Also, my dream of opening my own psychology office would not be possible without furthering my education. This degree will allow me to counsel at risk youth and make a difference in their lives. I know that continuing my education through this program will prepare me for the professional practice I will encounter daily and help to lay the foundation of my future as a helpful member of society.
During the summer of 2015, I obtained an internship at Psychological Associates. I applied for the Organizational Development Intern position during winter break of 2014. After the assessment and interview process, I was given the opportunity to expand my knowledge in the field. Psychological Associates is located in the heart of Clayton, Missouri where I immediately fell in love with the culture and atmosphere of the company. No matter the organization or level of experience from the C-suite to the front line, Psychological Associates ensures companies are selecting suited employees for particular roles through assessing, developing, and guiding employees at all levels. Since I am pursuing a Ph. D degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, this experience played a critical role in my overall understanding of the profession and enhanced my skills to complement my education thus far.
My purpose for seeking to pursue a doctorate degree is to enhance my knowledge of theories, research methods and assessment as it relates to psychology. More specifically, I would like to fine tune my skill set of executing varying concepts and techniques derived from theoretical discourses applicable to my work as a Psychologist and in so doing, obtain credibility within the field and among colleagues. I also believe, like Abraham Maslow in his theory of Human motivation, in becoming a lifelong learner and achieving intellectual self-actualization. I felt like my esteem needs were met through completion of a Master’s degree and am now compelled to aspire towards higher study; thus doctoral pursuit. Through my journey in completing a Master’s degree in Counseling psychology, I acquired internship experience and continue to obtain a wealth of firsthand experience within the human services field from years of working with students with behavioral, emotional, and social problems.
