In the novel, A Long Walk to Water, the author teaches us about the effects of the war in Sudan, both physically and mentally. The rebels striked all of the people into a state of intimidation, due to how they abide by them for the most part. And if somebody does step out of line, they use violent tactics according to page 12 when the man was hid in the face with the but of a gun from the rebel. Another example of the intimidation was with the woman in chapter 3, she did seem to want to take Salva with her, but could not due to the rebels intimidation. She knew that the rebels would kill them due to the two interacting, the rebels would assume that this was suspicious. The reason why the people kept running and walking was because of the
In the fictional story “The Scarlet Ibis”, James Hurst illustrates several themes of the text through the symbols of the Old Woman Swamp and green. Doodle “climbed rope vines”(Hurst 3) at the Old Woman swamp and “learned [how] to walk [there]”(Hurst 3). Old memories can bring people together. For instance, Doodle going to the swamp with his brother brought back memories of them having fun. This brought them closer, he realized he didn't always dislike his brother. Doodle walked through the “shady cool… dark green woods”(Hurst 4). Innocence can be found in nature. The quote helps explain how Doodle learned how to walk in nature and felt relaxed. Consequently, Hurst places importance on the Old Woman’s Swamp and green in order to uncover hope

Have you ever had to survive on your own? Because in this book “ A Long Walk To Water ” by Linda Sue Park two kids named Salva and Nya had to survive on their own. According to Webster survival means the continuation of life or existence problems of survival in arctic conditions. My definition of survival is to succeed in staying alive against others.
The book has lots of different times where I feel I am personally connected with the story or can make connections with the characters or setting. The setting of the book is in an old rural town where there isn’t many people. The town is constantly being described in further detail throughout the book. The more the town is described, the more it reminds me of the little old towns we passed on our way done to Coffs Harbour in NSW. In particular, this one that ran down a river with a sugar can mill all old buildings and a dodgy road. It matched the exact description of the town in the book. Also in the book the main character and his brother Keith always spend afternoon with their dad eating chips or special special treats.

In the book A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park, Slava shows us courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear. This essay discusses that It’s good to have memories of the past but don't let them control you. “Where are we going? Where is my family?
In the novel Walk Two Moons, Sal Hiddle is an important character. The reason why Sal is so important is because she narrates her life in Euclid, Ohio with Phoebe Winterbottom. The traits that Sal has are unique and is a country girl. By Sal narrating, it show importance by telling her story from her point of view about her time in Euclid, Ohio. The text states, “Two blocks from Margaret Cadaver’s was the place where my father and I were now going to live.”(Creech 10) This quote shows change can be a big impact on life because when Sal moved, it made a big impact on her life like new meeting friends. This red square represents an unperfect life because when sal’s mom left, she felt devastated and when she had to move to a place that is not
The character I chose for Walk Two Moons is Phoebe. Phoebe is an important person because she was Sal’s best friend and caused Sal to feel like Mrs. Cadaver is an evil lunatic. Also, she told Sal to go with her to find the “Lunatic.” Phoebe refuses to admit that her mom left and was not kidnapped by the “Lunatic.” Phoebe is as stubborn as a 100 ton titanium block!
In Linda Sue Park’s A Long Walk to Water, the characters teach readers that one with hope and persistence will go far in life. Salva and his tribe continue to face the same problems over and over again, like the challenges the war brings, success, or even the loss of close family and friends. Show the readers that each time they succeed is a miracle. The characters actions and opinions towards the struggles they face, makes it clear to the readers what the main idea is in the novel, A Long Walk to Water.
The River King Essay Blame; to assign responsibility for a fault or wrong. Blame is something that all human beings are familiar with, whether it’s blaming your sibling for eating the last cookie or something more severe like blaming someone for murder. Throughout everyday life, there can be many severe or small problems that arise. Humans often use blame to explain why these problems happen. In “The River King” Alice Hoffman highlights the idea of recurring problems throughout her novel.
Even though the ride to Yosemite was grueling, the main character learned a valuable life lesson that he will carry for the rest of his life. The main character ventured on a long, tiring ride, learned an important lesson, and discovered how they play together. After his bike ride to Yosemite he learns his lessons on the difficulties of life. He will carry the lessons he learned with him onto future adventures. He will also never venture onto such a grueling task based on other people's views.
The quote, “Don’t judge a man until you’ve Walked Two Moons in his moccasins” ~(Creech)~. The quote typed above demonstrates a powerful theme in the novel which shows through each of the characters. This is a theme that is placed many times in the novel, and the author makes it important. During the book, Walk Two Moons, Sal changes from upset to accepting which is demonstrated by the changes in her life, the definition of character, and the events that happen for a reason.
How Medicine Walk is a healing journey for Franklin and Eldon. The characters Eldon and Franklin, in which Richard Wagamese explores in his novel “Medicine Walk,” embark on a complex yet pulchritudinous journey which mends the fragments in both of their lives. A Medicine Walk is a facilitated walk-in nature that allows one to shift their consciousness so that one can receive the medicine their soul needs; however, Bunky (the old man) describes it as the time you take to gather what you need to be strong. On Page 65 Bunky explains, “Everything a guy would need is here if you want it and know how to look for it.” This novel delves deeper into this definition that Bucky provides in the way that it shows the journey that Eldon and Franklin endured to obtain those necessities
In the book, “Three Day Road”, Elijah loses touch with his identity of being Cree, changing into a whole new person. His aboriginal background is challenged as a result of the oppressive atmosphere at the residential school he attends, his debilitating addiction to morphine, and his lust for kill and want to fit in during the war. Elijah, like many young native children, was forced to enroll in residential schools for a majority of his young life. As a result he speaks English very well, even better than his native tongue. Thompson and Xavier wake up early in the morning and are laying around before they make their way to the trenches. Thompson says, “‘You’re a quiet one,’ [...] ‘I’d have said that’s an Indian trait, till I met Elijah.’ We
Ever since the start of the civil war (December 2013) in South Sudan, tensions have been running high between two opposing groups. Those who support the President, Salva Kiir, and those who support his fired deputy, Rick Machar. This conflict has caused food shortages and disease for many people. The one thing the parties have in common is the brutal violence especially towards women. According to the article,
