Flannery O’Connor’s short story, A Good Man Is Hard to Find, shares many similarities with one of the most critically acclaimed and praised cinematic works of our time: Pulp Fiction. Some of these similarities can easily be seen on the surface if you are familiar with the two opuses; however, if one sits down, digs deep, and analyze each piece, they can definitely discover one thing in particular. Her works influenced many writers and directors. One filmmaker in particular is Quentin Tarantino. If you have seen at least one of Tarantino’s flicks, you can definitely see O’Connor’s imprints oozing out. Quentin’s films are known for its senseless deaths, dark comedy, and extreme portrayal of violence. If a Tarantino fan like me was asked what movie defines Quentin Tarantino’s career, they would say Pulp Fiction without hesitation. Pulp Fiction contains the usual Tarantino movie ingredients. It also contains memorable characters, unforgettable scenes, and famous quotes. With all these things in the movie, one specific component is what really makes this movie standout. This item is that the movie is told through a nonlinear storyline. The story is told through seven different sequences. The sequence that really connects the movie to O’Connor’s short story is the sixth sequence. The sixth sequence tells the story of two mob contract killers, Jules and Vincent. We follow the two characters retrieve a briefcase from three guys who have stolen the briefcase from Jules’ and Vincent’s mob boss, Marsellus Wallace. As they shoot down two of the guys, we are shown that the third guy is hiding in the bathroom. It is then we find out that the last remaining guy has a gun and plans to shoot both Jules and Vincent. In a panicked and scared state, the guy runs out of the bathroom and shoots blindly at the two killers. After the smoke clears, we see both Jules and Vincent unscathed for the third guy missed all of his shots and instead hit the wall behind them. Jules and Vincent punish the third guy for the attempted murder. As Vincent examines the bullet holes behind them, Jules suddenly realizes something. Jules tells Vincent that they should be dead and that the reason they are alive is because of “divine intervention”. Jules believes that “God
