A Good Man is Hard to Find is a short story by Flannery O'Connor published in 1953. It talks about a serial killer going by the name The Misfit’s and the unlikely nature that he portrays, this story dives into mortality and the idea of goodness. The main protagonist of the story is “the grandmother” who described herself as a lady and a religious individual. This short story will talk about the inactions between the grandmother and the misfit’s, the characteristics of the misfit’s and the concepts of goodness. She continued to insist that she can tell that he is a good person at heart. The misfit started to tell her about himself, that he was falsely accused of killing his father, but he stated that his father died because of the flu epidemic also because they had the papers on him, he was sentenced to prison. In the story it states that “The Misfit sneered slightly”. “Nobody had nothing... and you can go there and see for yourself” (O'Connor, 1953). Meaning that the misfit was accused of killing his father on a false accusation and imprisoned wrongly. The grandmother stated that he should have prayed, but he stated that he is fine just the way he is and that he does not need any help. In the story it states, “Well then, why don’t you pray?” she... “I’m doing all right by myself” (O’Connor, 1953). This paragraph will be about the characteristics of the Misfit’s. He is an escaped convict and a murderer. Him and some of the other inmates brutally killed a family during a car accident. His character displays a sense of self-awareness, unlike the grandmother
