Ken Follett returns to delight us with his genius. This time it is through his work "A Dangerous Fortune" where a topic of everyday life as the fight for a fortune, it combines perfectly with a plot that does not allow us to separate the book to the end. The performance of his characters, suspense, treatment of the issue of values and anti-values, tradition and honesty as opposed to the more damaging ambition and perfidy. A fortune and ambitions that surround it is the center of interest, surrounded by characters like Seth Pilastra, augusta, hugh and Miguel Miranda whose execution and performance enhances the work, combining different cultures, customs and values, all harmoniously managed by Follet with great arguments, literary class resources.
One’s path of survival is dependent on the actions they display. Louie Zamperini has conquered the barbarous sea, during his time at sea, quick-witted but also critical decisions. In the book “Unbroken,” by Laura Hillenbrand, Louie’s decision of capturing water in his mouth and telling Phil and Mac about his mother's cooking is crucial to Louie’s survival. Although, his decision to carelessly touch sharks was one of his downfalls. One of many decisions Louie took was to touch the skin of two sharks as it passed by their raft, a risk no rational person would take.

Greed is like old age it slowly consumes you, nobody can escape it, and it will eventually cause your demise. In House of the Scorpion, by Nancy Farmer, a clone named Matt is isolated from the world because in this time period clones are viewed as pets. He is the clone of El Patrón, the lord of Opium; opium is a county that runs in a narrow line between the USA and Aztlan. Throughout this novel, Farmer conveys the message greed is eventually going to lead to demise.
Coupled with the last paragraph, Rainsford will have to hunt and use his skills to protect himself. Rainsford has many things to protect himself from. For example, animals, his surroundings, and other humans. Humans are the most dangerous for the reason that “‘they can reason, after a fashion so they are dangerous’” (Connell 27).

Did the Count of Monte Cristo get complete revenge? Edmond Dantés was framed and put in jail for 14 years. He later found out that Fernand, Danglars, and Caderousse were behind it. Villefort was also an accomplice. He vowed vengeance and he spent most of his life leading up to that revenge.
Douglas Horton once said, "While seeking revenge, dig two graves - one for yourself". Life as we knew is theme was a family survival through a bad crisis. How i know this theme is survival is because on page 335 Miranda’s mom started sobbing from that food, and that shows that they didn't have that much food to survive. Also in the book they were making their own cat on a diet that could mean that the animal doesn't have lots of food, but they got so much food there running out even with a cat. And that this book goes as the theme surviving because they started cutting their hair because they didn't have a lot of water and they needed that for drinking water. This is a surviving book because on page 331 and 332 she says “ What's the point?”
Throughout The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford, I sympathized with Keiko and Henry the most. Although both are minority races, they are discriminated against differently. Keiko identifies as 'American', but that does not seem to matter as her family and the rest of the citizens of Japanese descent are whisked into armed, prison-like camps by U.S. officials. I can relate to her since I have been discriminated against because of my ethnicity. It seems easy for some to make stereotypes about other races, especially in a time where everyone is looking for somewhere to place the blame. For example, the discrimination is evident when Keiko and Henry try to buy a record- Keiko is not even acknowledged because she is Japanese.
The American writer of Happiness for Beginners once wrote, “Bravery can only come from having something to be brave about.” Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand’s goes into depth showing Louis Zamperini's bravery, showing he kept his braveness even though his life on his 47 day drift at sea. This character trait is an amazing trait to have in his certain situation and life struggle. With his trait can help the others that he is with and keep their hope for survival. In his youth Louie committed to be a courageous type of mischief: “Louie climbed the steeple of a Baptist church, rigged the bell with piano wire, strung the wire to a nearby tree, and roused the police, the fire department, and all of Torrance”(7).
The existence of fate and free will also play a huge part of Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein. Shelley uses the foil characters of Victor and his monster to illustrate the differences between the beliefs in fate versus free will. While Victor Frankenstein listened to his professor speak on the powers of modern science, Frankenstein feels as if the professor’s words were “the words of fate”, that they prompted him to find the secrets of creation, and that that day “decided [his] future destiny” (Shelley 27-29). This quote prepares the audience for the upcoming events and that to Victor, those events were fully prompted by fate. Victor uses the existence of fate to rationalize his actions which helps the audience understand his motives more thoroughly. This quote also features a slippery slope

“He’d do what he always did, find the sweet among the bitter” (265). In the book the Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, the Panama Hotel is on the corner of Chinatown and Japantown. The hotel is located between the two cultures Henry is tied to, the Japanese and the Chinese. The story takes place in Henry’s past when he first meets Keiko and the present, after his wife, Ethel, has died. The hotel acts as the connection in between the two cultures and the two time periods, and symbolizes how Henry does too.
