On December 10th, I went to see A Christmas Story at Great Theatre. This show is about Ralphie Parker a nine-year-old boy who wanted a Red Ryder Carbine Action Gun. His mother among others warned him that he’d shoot his eye out. He tried to behave well in hopes he will receive the BB gun, however, matters go awry, he takes part in a fight, utters some unfavorable choice words, and his friend’s tongue gets stuck to a metal pole. Ralphie thinks he will never receive his desired present but on Christmas day his dad pointed out one more present that contained the Red Ryder BB gun. In the meantime Ralphie father has won major award a lamp of a woman’s leg that he proudly shows off in their front living room window

Christmas Carol How does Charles Dickens convey the character of scrooge in the early pages of a Christmas Carol? Charles Dickens, is best known for his host of distinctively cruel, repugnant characters. His father was sent to a Debtors prison taken his son Charles with him
How does one compare a play and a movie when both are based off of a book? The book A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, has had many adaptations by aspiring producers and writers. One of these includes a 1984 adaptation under the same name starring George C Scott as the famed character Scrooge. Another of these adaptations is a live production; a play called A Christmas Carol as well, performed by the Palace Theatre in Manchester, New Hampshire. A play and a movie are very different of course; a movie can be shot over months while a play has to be performed live. These two shows had to use different techniques to tell the audience the story. Both of these focus on the central theme of the story; that the true meaning of christmas is giving,
Ralphie wants his BB gun so bad that he even goes as far as being deceptive towards his brother by telling him he wants a Sandy Andy toy instead of the BB gun (Shepard 479). Ralphie knows that if he tells his little brother he wants a Sandy Andy, his brother will not copy his desire for the BB gun and his chances for getting his BB gun will increase. His mother tells him that he will “shoot one of [his] eyes out” throughout the short story, but Ralphie continues to find different ways to hint that the toy is perfect for him so he can still get his beloved BB gun for Christmas (480). Ralphie’s consistent banter for the BB gun is a prime example of how the toy industry’s marketing is successful. Marwick explains that “advertising aimed at kids deliberately undermines the parent-child relationship, by encouraging children to nag their parents for what they want” (2). Children are taught to continue to ask for the toys they want and they will get them in time just as Ralphie gets his glorious BB gun for Christmas. Children can easy fall into the marketing strategies of toy
Robert Butler used setting and tone to establish thematic meaning in the story “Christmas 1910” by placing the setting at a very cold, isolated, and depressing house. This led to the thematic meaning because the main character, Abigail, is affected by the setting. If the house wasn’t placed where it was the story would be completely different.
INTRODUCTION: Charles Dickens is said to be one of the greatest writers that has ever lived. Before we read one of his works in class, I would like you to spend some time getting to know this man and learning what the world was like as he knew it.
I felt that the movie of “A Christmas Carol” was very well performed and presented and that is why I believe the film version was better. Although the film version and the written version were very much alike they also were different. The film version was a lot differently set up and had a higher effect on the viewer than the written version. The film and the written version of “A Christmas Carol” were very much alike, but had some differences.
#1. A Christmas Carol takes place during the time of the Victorian Era, the years of 1837-1901. We learn that the Cratchits live in a town called Camden Town during this time. Camden Town is located in an area of northwest London. Charles Dicken’s (the author of A Christmas Carol) family lived at 16 Bayham Street in Camden Town.
“ Spirit, hear me. I am not he man I was. I will not be the man I have been for so many years. Why show me all of this if I am past all hope? Assure me that I yet may change these shadows you have shown me. Let the boy live! I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The spirits of all three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach.” (Scrooge, p.140). A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is an important story as it has a meaningful theme of change, as the quotes states above. But that isn’t the only theme that this beautiful story shows us. Many different spirits encounter him to help him realize why Christmas is important (I’m pretty sure that is the meaning of the spirits). When the first spirit of the past encounters him, he realizes what he has done, and regrets some of the things he did. The second spirit helped Ebenezer Scrooge recognize how what he has been doing has had an impact in other peoples life. When the frightening third spirit came and showed him his future and others futures, he discovers about himself and how people didn’t care that he died. When we read A Christmas Carol, we learn that it can have many different themes that can be a very important component to the story and even our lives.
Have you ever watch a Christmas carol because I know I have we watch in school in class so we could do this paper on it. I hop you like it because I am going to tell you about this man that get's a visit by a ghost he was so scared he didn't know what to do. the ghost said that he was going to see 3 ghost and so he run and in to his bed bed and try to hid what would you do if that happened to you? Now stay tun for more defiles."The spirit then shows Scrooge the day when his beloved younger sister Fan picked him up from the school after repeatedly asking their cold, unloving father to allow his return, as she joyfully claims that he has changed and is now kinder than he was.The Ghost of Christmas Past is the first of the three spirits (after
marriage and gender roles. In the case of A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens wants readers to see how living a life that radiates love and promotes happiness is better than being selfish and living a miserable life, and how past circumstances heavily influence who we are as people. The two messages both authors want readers to take away from the story, although different, achieve the takeaway through the utilization first person narration.
While the Christmas Play is light and playful, there are, admittedly, some dark parts to the play. The audience sees the emergence of the devil and the tyrannical King Herod. However, within the play, the devil is relatively harmless. The play contains scenes of the devil mocking the shepherds at the Nativity and dragging King Herod to Hell. While both are meant to emphasize the wickedness of the Devil, the Devil is watered down compared to other stories. He acts mischievously, but not violently towards the other characters, with the exception of the evil King Herod. This shows justice in the play, overall adding to the joyous occasion that the Christmas Play centers around.
Some of these may be very scary and some may only be mildly scary. It
A morality play, not unlike some of the popular plays I have seen. I think we all have seen this familiar theme many times over the years. As we head into the Christmas season, where reflective thinking becomes this very theme. I can compare this play with some of these seasonal plays. The play that comes to my mind immediately is, "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens.

Chains composed of links forged from sin, sorrow and seclusion are Ebenezer Scrooge's awaiting fate, unless he can put his pride behind him to gain forgiveness from those he hurt...before it’s too late. Scrooge believes that man's business is to make money, which opposes Dickens teachings, in his book A Christmas Carol. In A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens shows that one’s business in life is to commit to charity and helping others, through what Scrooge learns from the Three Spirits’ lessons.
