Rikki-tikki-tavi: Vigilante A hero is one who helps with no reward in turn. Vigilantes, killers of their own kind (evil). One mongoose, Rikki-tikki-tavi is a vigilante, only wanting to kill the snakes because of instinctual hate. Rikki is not defending the people associated with caring for him. Rikki only wants to please his traditional hate, thus showing that no person or animal will influence his fatal decisions. One reason is because, he does not have feelings for his “saviors”. The humans that have saved him with the bungalow have a feeling of gratitude to Rikki but he does not have any for them. As Rudyard Kipling states “‘... I suppose he's so tame because we've been kind to him.’ ‘All mongooses are like that,’said her husband”(Kipling).
