Some of the main tasks of a surgical tech include: preparing patients for surgery, maintain surgical instruments and specimens, preparing the O.R, sterilizing surgical equipment and counting supplies to make sure nothing is left in the patient. Other tasks involve helping surgeons put on gloves and gowns, placing instruments and other supplies on sterile tables and stands, they also clean the O.R. after the surgery concludes.

They can freeze, act improperly, or not quick enough, but some will also act professionally and correctly perhaps saving a patient's life. What determines the direction a health care provider will take is their experience. From knowledge to observation, a medical professional can learn the most efficient ways to work. My dream has always been to travel while helping those in need.Which I can make a career out of or I can always go volunteer with like “Love Volunteer”. Love Volunteer is an all round travel volunteer service that is really affordable and something I’d look forward to doing. My goal is to maintain a A-B average at school while studying medical tool terminology . One of my peeves is I don’t want to attend college for more than 2 years. So hopefully right after graduation i can jump right into my career choice which is a Surgical Technician. It doesn’t take very long to get a degree in this career. They get paid very well and i want to be able to a have a stable financial life. I’m a very adventurous and all around generous person yet i’m very
TRAUMA By C.I. Lopez "Page the trauma surgeon." I said to Susan, “and call the supervisor, to let her know we're probably getting multiple burn victims, please." As the head trauma nurse in charge of the Emergency Room, at St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Tampa, Florida, I was used to nights like this, especially when the rain was blinding at rush hour, and people were rushing to get home from work on a Friday night. For ten years I had worked the trauma unit, and I had seen it all.
Many people shy away from careers in medicine when they realize that they will be faced with many years of rigorous and expensive schooling. What does it really take to become an orthopedic surgeon and is this future built atop the heaping mound of
I have always believed that my success is defined by my happiness. This paper will discuss my personal goals as they apply to my education and career choice of Surgical Technician, as well as some of my strengths and weaknesses that will contribute to my success.
I am choosing a career where I literally have a person’s life in my hands. Asahq states that an Anesthesiologist is a doctor that is primarily responsible for the safety of patients before, during, and after surgery. They place patients in a state of controlled unconsciousness and give sedation to relieve pain or anxiety. I always wanted to work in the medical field, and keeping people out of pain is something I want to do.
Enhanced injury and violence prevention programs are the primary benefit of having a designated Trauma Coordinator. Using the Trauma Registry, the Trauma Coordinator is able to extract information and tailor the injury prevention programs to the community. Injuries are the foremost cause of death in Americans ages 1-44 and a primary cause of disability for people of all ages. 180,000 people will die from injuries every year, and 1 in 10 Americans will suffer a non-fatal injury that results in an Emergency Room Visit ("Healthy People 2020," 2014). There are widespread physical, mental, economic and societal burdens related to the consequences of injuries and violence. Injuries do not just affect the injured party, but also affect the families and
I’m able to organize and memorize things in an order that I can quickly and swiftly reach the tools and instruments as the surgeon asks for one during the operation. I will have to be focused and diligent during the operations in my ability to listen and follow directions. In this career, my compassion and good people skills will come in handy in helping others around me whether they are the patients, relatives of the patient, or my coworkers. Advantages to this career would be helping ill people get another chance at a longer life, working with some of the best surgeons in the state, getting to participate in procedures, and learning to better my career. Disadvantages include getting too emotionally attached to patients and their families, having to break bad news to patients and loved ones of the patient, and not being able to save every person on the operating table. The average annual salary of a surgical technologist in May 2016 was $46,160. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $31,720 and the highest 10 percent earned more than $64,800. This field of work is
Healthcare and healthcare planning are vital in today’s ever-changing world, without education and experience one cannot help patients or make policy changes that benefit all stakeholders. In addition, many people do not understand the ever-changing medical policies and treatment options that are available. Therefore, I am compelled to use my knowledge and education to coordinate healthcare needs of the people in my community. Whether this is managing outpatient care, inpatient care needs or healthcare resources. Therefore, the Marylhurst Healthcare MBA program and all three concentrations will enable me to obtain the skills I need to succeed.
Imagine the following scenario: A 43 year old male and his 41 year old wife have just finished celebrating their twentieth wedding anniversary at a local restaurant. The husband had a cocktail at the bar while waiting for the table, and then had a couple of glasses of wine with dinner. After dinner, the happy couple drive their vehicle home on a snow covered highway. The car begins to swerve on the ice and enters oncoming traffic and hits a semi cab head-on. After an extended extraction of the driver by paramedics, the driver is found to be unconscious, has multiple head lacerations, chest contusions from the steering wheel, and his left leg is bleeding profusely from a compound femur fracture. The female is conscious, in shock, and states that she is 36 weeks pregnant and has pain in her abdomen. Both victims are flown via helicopter to the nearest level 2 trauma center where 2 teams of emergency room doctors, trauma surgeons, respiratory therapists, x-ray technologists, phlebotomists, chaplains, social workers, and of course, trauma nurses, are waiting to assess the patients and provide life-saving care. This scenario is not the exception in a level 2 trauma care center of the emergency-room, it is the average situation that a trauma nurse will find his or herself in every day. Because of the fast paced situations that require split-second critical decisions, the advanced life support training that is required, and the often unrewarded care, a career in trauma
This is because many future nurses change what field they wanted to go into to originally, in this case becoming a registered nurse would be a much safer option although their is more schooling. Surgical technology education includes courses in anatomy, biology, medical terminology, pharmacology and other topics (aimseducation.edu). Having concise background knowledge of patients, consequently leads to more accurate treatments and assessments. Such as radiographers who are frequently faced with patients, colleagues and patient kin overwhelmed with emotions, such as trauma or fear (Booth, 2008). Radiographers are often one of the initial professional contacts with patients and loved ones, when patients are undergoing diagnosis or treatment. A radiographer should possess interpersonal skills, to effectively assess patient’s emotional responses to the medical situation to ensure accurate assessments as well as promote patient’s willingness to participate (Booth, 2008) (Mackay et al., 2010). Hence, not being able to build trust with a patient may have serious implications on outcomes.
