The first career you are going to learn about is a veterinarian. A veterinarian is a doctor for animals. The true definition of a veterinarian, which most people call a vet, is a person who is qualified to treat animals with diseases and injured animals. A veterinarian technologist works under a veterinarian to help preform medical tests in order to further the diagnosis of animal's illness or injuries. Their responsibilities include: observing the behavior of animals, providing care to recovering animals, restraining animals during exams, bathing, clipping nails, and brushing and cutting their fur, giving them anesthesia, taking x-rays, prepping animals for surgery, collecting the history of the animal, and giving the animals the vaccines or treatments prescribed by veterinarians. Many people would not realize it but a veterinary technologist has to have a lot of physical strength. This is because they have to restrain the animals during exams so that no one is hurt, including the animal. They can specialize in different areas such as, dentistry, anesthesia, emergency care or even zoological medicine. A technologist/technician works much like a veterinarian, including some weekends and holidays. They get paid a lot less than veterinarians, averaging around $32, 490. In a smaller area someone might make around $22,340 or less; whereas, in a bigger area with more need for one a person might make $48,330 or more. This is almost half of what a veterinarian …show more content…

Have you ever wondered what to do when your animal is sick? As well who take it to? Local Veterinarian Technicians are willing to assist both you and your animals. “If we wanted to go into it for the money we’d have become human doctors” (Oscar Chavez, DVM). A Vet Technician is an assistant to the the head vet. They will take blood test samples, give first aid and nursing to the animals. Help the doctors during a surgery. For example, delivering puppies in a c-section, the assistants will take the puppies and go clean them off.
Veterinary Technicians should expect to work long hours, associate with animals, and communicate with owners and staff. Clinics and veterinary hospitals are typically open 24/7, therefore technicians are expected to work weekends, holidays and evenings. Options of work environment include private practices, zoos, laboratories, kennels and animal shelters (“Technician Summary” 2014). Becoming a technician is emotionally and physically demanding. the professions and the tasks and responsibilities in the veterinary field are not as easy as they sound. Being a veterinary has its responsibilities and they have to be followed by everyone in the clinic or workplace to make things simple and keep it a good organized place to work . It is way more difficult and not as simple, everyone just thinks that being a vet is just about taking care of animals and that's it, but it's really more than that. Also being a veterinary technician is similar to a veterinarian but they have different duties. One of the duties of being a tech is evaluat animals assist veterinarian, collect samples and administer medication, clean and wrap wounds and many more duties.
Exactly who are veterinary technicians, you ask? They aren't exactly veterinarians, but they are the next best thing. They give medical care to animals, that are sick or hurt, or even just need a check up. They are the nurses of the animal field.
help them understand what is going on and that things will be okay. Although, sometimes things can go wrong. In these cases technicians have to be considerate and have the ability to set aside their own emotions and comfort the owners that need it. Aside from handling the owners, a vet tech will have to be able to
The duties in the lab are a lot more hands on with the pet. The first step is to ask questions to the owner about the reason for the visit. Also ask questions on the history of the pet to see if there are any other problems or concerns. As the vet tech talks to the owner they will check the weight, temperature and other details that are need for the exam. (Veterinary Technician Job Description (2014). The vet techs will also administer medications to the pets. So while doing this they will also show the owner the best and proper ways and times to administer there medications to their pets. This is also the perfect time to check the records of the pet and see what vaccines are needed. It is also important to give the owner some brochures on different vitamins and other special offers like teeth cleanings, flea control, hart worms and toe trimmings that would make the pet healthier and happier. (Veterinary Technician Job Description (2014). After the veterinarian has finished his exam and there are Surgical requirements the pet will be sent to the surgical
There are many kinds of veterinarians. There are vets that specialize in common house pets like, cats and dogs, vets that take care of exotic creatures like, lizards and snakes, and vets that treat large animals like, horses and cows. For my future career I chose a large animal veterinarian. A large animal veterinarian can treat animals from the zoo to the farm. They mainly work with horses and cattle but they know how to treat other animals. A large animal vet needs to know several types of math and how to use each type in their daily work.
Being a veterinary technician or technologist you will have to deal with the public everyday. You will need to know how to treat them with kindness and how to calm someone down if they are in hysteria. You will need to have quick problem-solving skills on how to handle things, not only in the public ye, but also back where it is just you and your coworkers. All of these skills, I have which will help me immensely. Having these skills is one of the many benefits of having this
A companion animal veterinarian treats pets such as cats, dogs, birds, ferrets, and rabbits. They usually work in a private clinic or hospital. A Veterinary Technician works as a skilled technical assistant to a veterinarian, or to another biomedical researcher or scientist. Veterinary technicians do not prescribe, diagnose, or perform surgery, and they always work under the supervision of a veterinarian. Thus being said, a veterinary technician career is a natural step for an aspiring veterinarian wanting to test the waters. Most veterinary technicians find employment in private veterinary practices doing traditional clinic work, but veterinary technician career opportunities are also available in other fields, such as teaching, biomedical research, and zoo wildlife medicine.
Animals have played a big part in my life, I have always had some sort of animal ever since I was born. Growing up I've had dogs, hamsters and fish and I have loved all of them deeply. This love for animals has showed me that I want to work with animals for the rest of my life. Becoming a Vet Tech is a great job because I get to see animals all day every day and I get to care and love for them.Vet Techs provide care for all animal's, anywhere from dogs, cats, exotic pets, lab animals and zoo animals. They help animals recover from injury, illness and help maintain animal's overall health. Vet Techs are commonly called ''nurses'' for animals, having the same jobs nurses have but just for animals.
As a registered veterinary technologist, I would expect my daily routine to be complied of various, and sometimes strenuous, tasks and responsibilities, such as evaluating an animals condition, checking vital statistics, cleaning and wrapping wounds, restraining animals, preparing and stocking surgery rooms with necessary supplies, and some dental care. As a registered veterinary technician, I expect that good people skills are necessary as well, due to the fact that I would more than likely be in considerable communication with our patients owners while the animals are under our

Preventive medical care is provied. They vaccinate and provide check-ups to make sure animals stay healthy. Vets give owners advice about animal care and breeding. Like doctors, vets may focus on a one area of medicine. Before becoming a veterinarian, a specific education is needed (“Veterinarian”).
