Three careers to look into are: veterinarian, veterinarian technologist/technician or a veterinary assistant. This paper will tell you important facts of these three areas. These careers are different but all of them are similar in the fact that the take care of animals.
The first career you are going to learn about is a veterinarian. A veterinarian is a doctor for animals. The true definition of a veterinarian, which most people call a vet, is a person who is qualified to treat animals with diseases and injured animals. Veterinarian's use their knowledge to improve the health and environment for both animals and humans. They do this by studying the diseases that are found in both animals and humans, such as, rabies or the flu (influenza). …show more content…

A veterinarian technologist works under a veterinarian to help preform medical tests in order to further the diagnosis of animal's illness or injuries. Their responsibilities include: observing the behavior of animals, providing care to recovering animals, restraining animals during exams, bathing, clipping nails, and brushing and cutting their fur, giving them anesthesia, taking x-rays, prepping animals for surgery, collecting the history of the animal, and giving the animals the vaccines or treatments prescribed by veterinarians. Many people would not realize it but a veterinary technologist has to have a lot of physical strength. This is because they have to restrain the animals during exams so that no one is hurt, including the animal. They can specialize in different areas such as, dentistry, anesthesia, emergency care or even zoological medicine. A technologist/technician works much like a veterinarian, including some weekends and holidays. They get paid a lot less than veterinarians, averaging around $32, 490. In a smaller area someone might make around $22,340 or less; whereas, in a bigger area with more need for one a person might make $48,330 or more. They provide emergency aid to animals. They give medication that is prescribed by the veterinarian to animals and take samples of blood, urine, and tissue to assist the veterinarian. They clean the kennels, exam and operating rooms, and the equipment for surgery. The everyday life of a veterinarian assistant is much like the veterinarians. They also restrain animals like veterinary technicians/technologist do during exams.
