Becoming a successful medical assistant is not something you just do, you have to learn. Whether it's learning by your mistakes or learning how the people that surround you do it. It takes desire and willingness to do your job the right way, its the little things that make you good at it. Deciding to be an MA is not a job for just anyone, you need the love for people that the job comes with. Knowing the importance of policies of where you attend, what RMA and CMA stand for, and the typical duties of a medical assistants are what will make you one of the best.

Due to the physician shortage in the United States, there has been an increase in the Physician Assistant profession. Physician Assistants (PAs) are well known members of the medical field, providing care for patients, and studying under the authority of a physician. However, in order to assist patients, PAs have requirements that need to be completed. These requirements include a bachelor degree, about three years of healthcare experience, and attend an accredited PA program.  These requirements take about 27 months.

Unit 5 Assignment I am a student at Kaplan University and have just begun a new plan to achieve my career goals. I am taking courses towards my Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting as a ticket back into the nursing program that will eventually lead to a Bachelor’s Degree in the Science of Nursing. According to O*Net Online, they work in hospitals, clinics, and medical offices performing routine laboratory procedures, patient care tasks as well as preparing rooms and patients for physician’s procedures.

It is a growing profession and more than 16,000 jobs are estimated to become accessible to future medical assistants in the United States by 2022 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The amount of jobs that are currently held by medical assistants is 591,300. Which are broken up into 59% at physician’s offices, 15% in hospitals, 10% in offices of other healthcare professionals and 7% in outpatient care centers. The average pay per hour is $14 which can be increased based upon experience and location.

My essay is going to be about the pros and cons about becoming a medical assistant in America. The wages that you need to expect to make as a medical assistant, and the education that is required to have as a medical assistant. Not everyone is drawn to the same profession within the medical field. By the end of my research and information hopefully I will know if this career is for me.

A Medical Assistants job depends on which state you work in and the type of place you work in. This job can be very easy but it has a lot of responsibilities such as keeping the office organized also work with patients in the exam room. Some of the responsibilities/Tasks are to answer the phone when someone calls about a medical issue and schedule them an appointment, record, update and fill out medical information on the forms, they also have to greet the patients and answer any questions they might have. Also they have to communicate with the physician and the patient, manage bills and bookkeeping. Also they have to fill out and complete the patients’ insurance forms and arrange the hospital admission and/or lab procedures for the patients.

During my fourth year in college, I enrolled in a course called Psychology of Health Disparities. My decision to enroll in this course stemmed from my experience as a medical assistant, and my duty involved working in clinical settings low socioeconomic status individuals (SES). Even though this class met only once a week, it deeply impacted the way I viewed the public health care system. Health disparities are particularly evident in the United States health care system, mostly because of factors like SES, race, and education as well. This is the typical thoughts one may have about an emergency situation, but what they don’t realize is all the teamwork involved in medicine in general. Last summer, when I was thinking about my future and deciding what type of job I would like to have. I decided to do a little research on the training programs offered at Whatcom Community College. After doing research on the medical assisting career, I realized that was what I wanted to do. Medical assisting is a great job, I like the administrative aspect, as well as the hands-on practice that medical assistants get to perform. The medical profession I’ve recently decided to pursue was a certified medical assistant. You will need some type of plan before you decide to pursue in anything. It could be as simple as writing down your short and long term goals on a piece of paper .In my case, I always have something that motivates me because that will help me stay focused on achieving my goals. My motivation is knowing I will wake up to something I love doing on a daily basis once I get my career started. There are a few steps I will need to take to achieve my goal in becoming a medical assistant.
