This book is very interesting and motivating. Auggie is himself poignant character. His story is moving and uplifting. Auggie is an ordinary kid from the inside. This book is inspiring and refreshing. This book will leave any reader feeling better. This book will also have some drama, friendship, and bullying.
Theme: One lesson I learned is that you can’t judge people if they are different. In this book, Auggie has a disorder on his face. Many people stay away from him because of that. Inreality they just judged the funniest person they have ever met. Auggie always could feel when people were staring at him. He hated it. Summer witnessed this happening. She knew she had to do something, so she did. Another lesson this book taught me is that life is what you make it. Auggie had the fear of dying a lot. He went through tons of life threatening surgeries. He hated them, but he aleays had a laugh with his friends and enjoyed every second of living. I never through about what would happen if I was in his place and had to hope I lived through a surgery.
Not only does August have to deal with bullies because of his facial abnormalities, but he also has to adjust to a “real” school. August was always homeschooled due to his 27 surgeries. No one sees August as ordinary, well, except himself. Everyone else is blinded by Auggie’s looks and for awhile they can’t seem to look past them. But when
The main character, Eleanor, has bright red hair, an usual sense of style, and is a little chubby, which make her an outcast. On her first day at school, everyone ignores her requests to sit next to them on the bus. Everyone except for Park, the only Korean kid who lives in their neighborhood. Both kids are outcast at their school. In addition to being bullied, Eleanor has an abusive step father who is an alcoholic. At first the completely ignore each other, but over time they begin to share comic books and tapes. This quickly becomes a routine and one day Eleanor decides to finally speak to Park. This friendship quickly turns into love, but their families have other plans. Richie, Elanor’s step father, forbids her from dating, and Park’s mother as a vision of Park dating an typical girl.
Children need strong, resilient role models to learn from and many of these characters are just that. Although Auggie is only 10 years old, he captures the mind of the reader and you find yourself asking “Could I be that strong?” or “Would I be able to rise above the bullying?” The characters are self-reflective in age-appropriate
