A beautiful young woman steps down from the horse drawn carriage, one foot touching down onto the rough ground outside her second home. As she looks around, she cannot help soaking in all the wonderful scenery surrounding her. The fabulously large trees too tall to climb perfectly blanketing the hillside in the distance. The sky clear, blue and bright with a few lingering perfectly formed cotton clouds. The trees just starting to turn from their deep green to shades of orange, yellow and brown. The grazing grass that surrounds still the brightest shade of green imaginable. There are many at this entrance of the castle, standing tall and at attention to welcome this young woman home. She feels as though she has been absent for too long. Everyone looks so different, and she feels they must think the same of her. She was just a young lady of thirteen when she was sent away in hiding, but now she is seventeen and has matured into a young woman. She moves slowly taking her first few steps, and approaches the handsome young man in front of her. Their eyes connect with one another, and the connection is not to be broken despite every distraction surrounding the two. They are both remembering their younger days. The days of a boy meeting a girl. The days of holding hands as they ran up and down these grounds just for play. The days of so much laughter, games, and unconditional affection. Oh how they had missed each other’s company, and both feel the calm on their
Steps forward into Ryou's space, too close for people who are meant to be just acquaintances, a story to tell of somebody I used to know, contact lost through the years. Ryou doesn't move, but he can hear the quick intake of breath, and imagines his pupils dilating as he presses himself against Ryou, fingers against his chest, tangible through the thin cotton of Ryou's shirt. Even after all these years—
Vibrant hues of orange and yellow were smeared together and they played with violent shades of red. The rising sun rested in a bed of golden rose, cotton clouds. Its rays of light spilling over the hills like pale orange paint. At least, that's what I imagined this sunrise would look like in a world without skyscrapers and other assorted buildings suffocating the horizon, sucking the life out of the beauty that nature gives us, and replacing it with smoke, oil, and the stench of our ever growing need to expand. Our need, humanity's need to leave no blade of grass behind, to cover every inch of the earth with pollution and man made roads and structures, is what is destroying the beauty that nature provides.
The sun paints the sky with its warm colours as it dips below the horizon. The scent of pumpkins and apples caress my nose as their lulling scent complements the scenery; surrounding me in total bliss.
The sun shone against the grass. Zack blinked slowly. The wind blew against his ears, and he looked at his hands. Small, petite. He sighed softly, and heard piano from the distance. Next to him, was a silhouette of a much older man. He sat next to Zack, and placed his hand on Zack’s head. He rubbed his hair, and mouthed a few words to him. Zack attempted to understand what he said. He picked Zack up and placed him on his lap. He spoke something to him, and placed his hands on Zack’s shoulders.
“For a moment the last sunshine fell with romantic affection on her glowing face; her voice compelled me forward breathlessly as I listened - then the glow faded, each light deserting her with lingering regret, like children leaving a pleasant street at dusk.”
It seemed like a raw deal to her, and she liked the boy’s shyness and big white smile. She had taken him home to sleep on her fold-out couch. Bought him new clothes and sneakers, fed him better. She found he was better company than a dog that needed walking, or a cat that would cough up hairballs and need its litter box changed. She didn’t like to use the word love, but if she had any, it was for
Days she’s determined to make everything work — to balance both her worlds, pushing through her normal life and making time for everything, everyone, for things that will make them happy. Their questions became more, and this made her pull herself back slightly, further from them and more to him. She’s trying, though. Still, they slander what she has with him with their words, and unknowingly who she is, the parts they haven’t got to know yet. It’s wounding. She tried sneaking up to her room at the crack of dawn to avoid when drenched in mud, her clothes torn to shreds, blood dripping. They had seen it and retreated from her quietly, getting in the car for school.
Before they departed his lips would briskly touch her forehead. And one last ”You’re beautiful” would be whispered into her ear. Hands disconnected, not meeting again until the highly anticipated father daughter
In her mind’s eye, she now pictured him handsome with strong eyes that would one sunrise, take her away from the life she was destined to live. She knew she should go for help and then run to school to finish her final test to win the right to alter what she would some sunrise become. However, deep down, she could not make herself leave his side. This was her first opportunity to have a real friend, and she would not give this up for any prize on the Gods’
Allie had not heard much of what Thomas said; she was in shock still, from seeing him standing there looking at her. When her eyes locked onto him and then his eyes, it was as if they were completely alone in the room. She blushed at her thoughts because they had suddenly gone to those few days and nights they had spent as a married couple. As he kissed her, her thoughts were in bed with him- his
It was a cool September evening and my mom was driving me from Los Angeles all the way to Johannesville. As we drove on quiet, deserted roads I stared out the passenger’s window and saw nothing but hills with tall, dry, golden-brown grasses. It certainly wasn’t anything like what you’d see in pictures of beautiful landscapes but it wasn’t too bad either, I actually kind of liked it. Looking at those golden hills rush past my window somehow relaxed me and sent me into a staring trance, my mind traveled to other-worldly places where I could let my imagination run wild.
Early the next evening, we raced up the highway for a few hours before coming to a single-story stucco home situated between two wooded, slow-sloping hills in a long narrow valley. The front lawn spread out beneath a terrace, its blades entwined with delicate dandelions that danced in unison with the breeze. Yellow roses and silver hydrangeas sprawled out in a gusty garden surrounded by yew hedges shaped like miniature elephants. If I squinted, I could make out a path that zigzagged between stubbly-needled pine trees, and the presence of a pond by the flashes of reflected light. Beyond the water were tiny purple grapevines, transformed in the soft glow of twilight to ginger.
Maria lay there for a moment, gazing up at Jack, her heart still pounding and her breath still stuck in her throat. He was dressed in a ragged white shirt covered and smeared in bits of dirt, patched brown pants, and a rough gray jacket; he walked barefoot, his feet stuck with pieces of mud and grass. But his face was what caught Maria’s eye. He was the most handsome boy she had ever seen. His face was finely shaped, and set with a pair of radiant eyes that gazed down at her, glowing like crystal balls in the moonlight.
Magnificent, heavenly light filters through the wispy clouds, signifying a new day. The thin clouds slowly drift apart, presenting a beautiful sky beneath. Speaking out to me, the sky seems to know every one of my thoughts, my dreams, my darkest fears. The sky is but a canvas of light, creating a new picture within seconds. Weaving a story through the delicate clouds, the picture grows beyond the expanse of sky. The colors splay before me, painfully beautiful and simple. Pink hues morph into vibrant purples as they blend with the beautiful blues. The glittering stretch of sea shines before my eyes. With every new wave, the light from above whispers promises of riches and sparkling diamonds. The light breeze that kisses the sea sends the twinkling light back into the air above.
The grass was soft and green, reserved for those who wanted to lie down or sit. A sweet aroma of flowers overflowed near by like s shinning light, but was hidden by the untrimmed bushes and wildly growing trees. Up above me was the beautiful, high noon blue sky spotted with fluffy, white clouds and airplanes flying by. I emerged into the parking lot and stopped happily as a squirrel under a tree. Hesitating to proceed anywhere further I took a few
