The purpose of a balanced consumption of macronutrients in foods such as carbohydrates, fats and proteins is to maintain a healthy lifestyle, which prolongs one’s lifetime. However, over 2 billion people across the globe is developing the obesity epidemic; a preventable disease that can easily be cured through a healthy lifestyle that consists of careful, considerate choices of foods and an exercise routine. Being a disaccharide, the body only needs to attain the straightforward process of breaking down a two molecule chain of carbohydrates by transporting the fructose molecule directly to the liver to be converted into glucose to be absorbed in the blood. This then causes a rise in both sugar concentration in the blood and the release of metabolic hormones, which results in a quicker release in energy and earlier experiences of cravings. If cravings are satisfied, and made into a habit, a continuous buildup of glucose stores take place. Although the overconsumption of sugar can lead to obesity, the regularity status of exercise and other nutrients present in foods, such as carbohydrates and fats, are equally as responsible for the clumps of excess body fat if over-consumed.
