Everyone has a Story Can one imagine a world where people undergo such insanity, that they willingly go on suicide plane missions? Neither could the United States before September 11, 2001. The 9/11 terrorist attacks, lead by an Islamic group al-Qaeda, devastated the country. This group so heavily believed in their religion, that they wanted to create an independent Muslim State. The tragic event of 9/11 impacted everyone in the United States, whether or not they were present at the terrorist site of attack. Everyone felt hopeless and worthless because they could do nothing to help. An adult witness to 9/11 in 2001, TJ Zimmerman, possess memories that he wants to share about this historical tragedy. The event of 9/11 affected many people, …show more content…
Major earthquakes killing thousands, terrorist attacks killing thousands, the world at an economic slowdown, bombs that injury many, the Odyssey launched to Mars, and protests all occur. All of these events lead to the calamitous event, known as 9/11. The 9/11 terrorist attacks took a lot of thought and dedication. These thoughtfully planned attacks killed many loved ones. On September 11, 2001, Al Qaeda terrorist boarded three hijacked passenger planes. These people carried out correlated suicide attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and also at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. They killed everyone on board these planes and three thousand people on the ground. Another plane, considered the fourth plane in this attack, did not succeed in its suicide attempt, because the passengers aboard fought for their lives. “At 7:59 am, eastern daylight time, American Airlines Flight 11, with 92 people on board takes off from Boston. At 8:14 am, United Airlines Flight 175, with 65 people aboard takes off from Boston. At 8:19 am, ground personnel is alerted by flight attendants that the plane was hijacked. American Airlines also notifies the FBI. At 8:20 am, American Airlines Flight 77, with 64 people aboard, takes off from D.C. At 8:46 am and 9:03 am, the hijacked planes crash into the south and north World Trade Center towers, killing everyone on board, and people in the towers.” (Timeline). At 9:37 …show more content…
He got up, dressed himself, told his wife goodbye and went to work at the Carlin Company. At around 8:30 am, his step dad, the office manager, came in his office and told him to turn the T.V on. At that point, plane Flight 77, crashed into the World Trade Center tower. He had no clue what this meant. Nobody at the office knew yet that the terrorist attacks existed. Mr. Zimmerman’s first child soon to be born a week after the attacks, scared him about the world she may live in. He worried about what kind of world his child may live in. He worried about his daughter’s future. Despite the fact that he feared life for his child, Mr. Zimmerman did not live his life in fear. He did not feel afraid. Tj Zimmerman said, “not much happiness came out of these attacks, but it did bring the nation together as a united country” (Zimmerman). Mr. Zimmerman thinks the world changed after 9/11. After 9/11, people in the US did not trust anyone who looked like they came from an Arab or Muslim background. People now became scared and afraid to fly. The whole screening process at the airports changed as well. Pocket knives, fluids, and other items could be brought on a plane before 9/11, but not after. Mr. Zimmerman started to see many security measures being taken at airports. Laws put in place at airports after the attack included, more thorough security check in, reinforced cockpit doors on planes, armed Air Marshals on
September 11, 2001 (herein referred to as 9/11) was a day in American history, which will be remembered as the most horrific attack on American soil. This attack, carried out by nineteen Islamic extremists, was associated with al-Qaeda, and involved the hijacking of four airplanes. Two of those airplanes were hijacked and flown directly into the World Trade Center in New York City, New York. The third plane’s target was the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and the fourth plane was brought down in Pennsylvania where it is believed the passengers aboard fought the hijackers. This horrific day in history cost over 3,000 people their lives, and was labeled the worst attack on American soil since the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II.
9/11 was of the biggest “terrorist attack” in the United States History. Many building was destroyed in this single day. The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, the pentagon, and crash in field near Shanksville in western Pennsylvania. The day of 9/11 was a conspiracy.
Many people do not know what exactly happened on this day and are left short of very many important details that happened on this day. One of the details that some Americans do not know is that there were four crashes that happened on this day due to the hijacking of the planes by Al-Qaeda. There were four airplane crashes this day that occurred at different times in different locations. The first airplane to take off was American Airlines Flight 11 (a Boeing 767) at approximately 7:59 a.m. It was departing Boston’s Logan International Airport and was headed to Los Angeles with 92 people aboard it. The next airplane to leave was Flight 175 (also a Boeing 767) that departed the airport at 8:14 a.m and left the airport to Los Angeles with 65 passengers on board. After that, at 8:20 a.m., American Airlines Flight 77 (a Boeing 757) left Washington Dulles International Airport with 64 people on board and it was also headed for Los Angeles. The first plane crash occurred at 8:46 in the morning. This was Flight 11 and it crashed into the North Tower of New York’s World Trade Center. Next, it was Flight 175 that crashed. This happened at approximately 9:03 in the morning and this affected the South Tower of the World Trade Center. Next, it was then Flight 77 that crashed into the Pentagon, located in Washington, DC. The last hijacked plane Flight 93 that then crashed at 10:03 a.m in a field
At 9:12 on Flight 77, staff and passengers contacted their family and friends and air traffic control that the plane had been hijacked. Approximately at 9:36, Secret Service agents evacuate the White House employees to the Presidential Emergency Operations Center. The reason they evacuated the White House is because the authorities were expecting that another hijacked plane was going to attack either the White House or the Capitol (9/11 MEMORIAL - September 11 Attack Timeline, pages 20, 22-23). At 9:37, hijackers crash Flight 77 into the Pentagon’s western facade, killing the fifty-nine on board the plane and one hundred twenty-five military and civilian personnel inside the Pentagon. This had been the third attack on the United States within fifty-one minute. To help the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) find the hijacked planes, they ground all flights over, or bound for, the continental United States. At approximately 9:59, after burning for a total of fifty-nine minutes, the South Tower collapses within ten seconds killing many rescue workers and responders (9/11 MEMORIAL - September 11 Attacks Timeline, pages 24-25,28). Around 10:15, the damaged section of the Pentagon’s outermost offices, known as the E ring, collapses. No on was injured. At 10:28, the North Tower collapses after burning for one hundred two minutes, killing about 1,400 people in the building and the surrounding area (9/11 MEMORIAL - September 11 Attack Timeline,
Four planes were used in the terrorist attempt to tear the nation apart. Five hijackers apprehended American Airlines Flight 11 and used that commercial airplane to crash into the North Tower in New York’s World Trade Center at 8:46 a.m. At 9:03 a.m., five more hijackers overtook the pilots of United Airlines Flight 175 to fly into the South Tower. American Airlines Flight 77 was also seized by five terrorists and used to crash into the western side of the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. The Capitol or the White House was thought to be the fourth hijacked plane’s target. Because of the heroics of the passengers on United Airlines Flight 93, the plane was forced down in a rural field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania at 10:03 a.m. Flight 93’s voice recorder showed that the passengers and crew tried to regain control from the hijackers. The people aboard that flight were informed of the attacks that took
While Millions watched very frightened because of the events in New York, American Airlines Flight 77 went around downtown Washington D.C, and slammed into the west of the Pentagon military headquarters at 9:45 am. Jet fuel from the Boeing 757 caused a devastating flame that led to a collapse of the whole building. After all of this, 125 people were killed in the Pentagon itself while 64 died inside of the airplane. (History)
On the morning of September 11 2001, terrorists hijacked four planes from American Airlines and United Airlines with the goal of ruining the U.S economy. Two of the planes achieved their goal and targeted both towers of the World Trade Center along with the Pentagon, resulting in the death of approximately 2,975 people. The events that took place on this day had a great impact not only in America, but around the world as well. After this day there were major changes in air travel, new government regulations, and a financial crisis.
So the first attack that the hijackers did was the two Twin Towers were the first to attack. The people didn’t want to burn to death so they would just jump off and 200 people died from jumping off the building. So for the people that were in the two towers when the buildings were still the planes going to the Twin Towers the people that were still there they would just burn to death. The first Twin Tower to get hit was at 8:45 am and the time that it was down at 9:59 less than a hour it was down because of the planes. So the Police thought that there were still people alive in the Twin Towers at 10:28.
It was 8:45 and it was a Tuesday and a group of people had a plane full of 20,000 gallons of gas. Then, the plane crashed the twin towers were about 110 story high and about 80 floors were burned. The plane crashed at the 60th floor and 343 were killed during that plane crash. The second tower was collapsed, too. Only six people survived and others past away people can’t find their bodies because it's only dust.
On September 11, 2001, the terror attacks that struck upon the American people etched a wound so deep that will take years to repair. The whole world watched and mourned as 2,977 innocent lives were taken mercilessly away by the clutches of vile people. The group responsible for these attacks had malicious intent and animosity toward the people of the free world. They took their accumulated hatred and attacked the American people. The way the American people responded was not what the terrorist group had expected.Instead of cowering in fear from the attacks as presumed, the American people began to display more patriotism and exhibit a sense of unity. While 9/11 is a day we remember the innocent lives lost to terrorism and the new sense of togetherness it founded, it is also a day that birth the term Islamophobia and gave rise to mistaken-identity hate crimes.
On September 11th, 2001, the Unites States of America was attacked by suicidal al-Qaeda terrorists. Early that morning, nineteen al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial jets, which did have passengers on board. The terrorist purposely killed themselves and the
The aftermath has resulted in many changes in daily life, whether it be any form of travel or monotonous and routine activities, like boarding the subway or walking into a school. A positive outcome of 9/11 is the improvement in security which may seem like a burden at times, but the end result is to keep the citizens safe. Although America has not been the same since, the tragic events that occurred on September 11th, 2001 has left a lasting mark on the citizens of the United States and resulted in changes in the everyday lives of our country, making us a safer country that is more unified than
On September 11, 2001, members of the terrorist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes. At 8:45 in the morning, an American Airlines plane crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. The incident killed hundreds of people instantly, and trapped hundreds in the burning building (“9/11 Attacks”). Americans thought it was only a freak accident, but less than twenty minutes later, a United Airlines plane crashed into the south tower. It was no longer an accident, but an attack.
Flying out or in of the country or even within has become more challenging since the 9/11 attacks. It takes more time to get through security which makes for a much earlier arrival time for those flying. Most airlines require an arrival two hours prior to their departure time. Many Americans have stopped flying altogether because of the hassle of airport security and out of fear. Before the attacks, airport security was more relaxed. Basic security measures were in place, but it was much different than today. Before the attacks, security screenings were set in place by the private companies, many which were outsourced to different security companies. Passengers were allowed to bring certain size blades, scissors, baseball bats and even sewing needles. All of these items have since been banned as a result of the attacks. Since the attacks, the Transportation Security Administration was created and the security screenings are now regulated by the federal government. Through TSA, passengers bags are checked for banned items, they screened for suspicious behavior, the explosive detection system was implemented, and the full body scanner is now used to check passengers. According to Rick Seaney, “Our security ought to stop anything these days, stringent as it is: We've gone from the metal detectors of the 1970s to post-9/11 body scans and enhanced pat downs. Cockpit doors are now fortified, and the sky
The September 11th attacks have had a profound effect on American history. Often referred to as “9/11”, these attacks were comprised of a group of organized terrorists known as Al-Qaeda. This extreme Islamic group assaulted several landmarks in New York City, Washington D.C, and the state of Pennsylvania. In New York City, two airliner jets were hijacked with passengers aboard and slammed into the World Trade Center. “The next attack resulted in a plane colliding into the Pentagon, government building; the last attack was in Pennsylvania when a plane crashed into a field. In total, 3,000 people died on September 11th, 2001” (History.com Staff). The September 11th-attacks have affected airport security by the new training of flight attendants, the formation of the Transportation Security Administration and new technical advances to keep up with increased terror threats.
