~Nikkie Galindo~ 9/11/2015 2nd 9/11 Letter to First Responders Fourteen years ago, our country appeared to come to a halt at 8:46 am. As the first hijacked plane hit the north tower of the World Trade Center, Americans were filled with fear and melancholy. And as they held their breath, awaiting some sense of hope, you did what most people could never imagine doing. You went into the buildings while people were going out, holding your own, in the midst of the immense heat and disintegrating steel. As you look back on this day, fourteen years later, I can imagine that you can still hear the shrill of melting steel, and the outcry of everyone at the scene. While the whole world stood in silence as the second plane hit, you prayed that your
Terrorist attacks have increased over the last twenty years, but one of the most remembered is the attack on the World Trade Center in New York City. It happened on September 11, 2001; and is commonly referred to as 9/11. Americans grow up learning details about 9/11; but rarely do we learn about a personal experience. In Adam Mayblum’s email “The Price We Pay,” he tells the story of what happened to him, and others around him on the day of September 11, 2001. Mayblum explains in paragraph ten “If you want to kill us, leave us alone because we will do it by ourselves. If you want to make us stronger, attack and we unite.” He made an excellent point with that statement, because he is right. He provides us with imagery, thoughts on terrorism, and strong use of emotions throughout the story that brings us a very well written narrative.
On September 11, 2001, four commercial aircraft were hijacked by terrorists who led an attack on America by crashing the planes into buildings. This attack created destruction, trauma, death, and fear. There had not been an act of war of this magnitude since the bombings of Pearl Harbor, and it shook the foundation of American exceptionalism. Americans exceptionalism is sometimes taken too far and it can create the idea that the United States is invincible. Therefore, when something of this scale takes place, a backlash is formed and the question of, ‘how did this happen’ is brought up. This new fear of airplanes becoming missiles brought the citizens of our county to bring a call to action to our government.
Immediately following those attacks, American citizens found themselves in a position quite unlike any they had previously encountered. Faced with a tragedy of unparalleled magnitude, many American's
Fifteen years ago, terror touched American soil writing in our memories with indelible ink a sequence of numbers – 911. Four short of 3,000 perished that day; but one survivor, the last survivor to be pulled before the complete collapse of the World Trade Center’s North tower, shared a miracle that changed her life completely. This woman, a member from the Brooklyn Tabernacle, shared her testimony at my friend’s church in Bermuda. She along with fourteen other co-workers, reached the thirteenth floor before the building collapsed on them. During the 27 hours she laid trapped, she cried out to God, telling Him that if He gave her another chance, she would turn her life around and live for Him. As she was just about to give up, a hand grabbed
The day we will never forget was September 11th, terrorist commandeered the plane that crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center (WTC), then the other plane crashed into the Trade Center’s South Tower, many rescue workers, plus people who were trying to escape, were crushed to death (“America Attacked: 9/11”, n.d.). On that day, the heartbreak did not stop, because we loss over 340 New York City firefighters who were killed that day, and that day was the deadliest day in history for New York City firefighters. Than about 14 to 15 minutes later, “the terrorists struck the nerve center of the U.S. military, when the south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed in a massive cloud of dust and smoke” (“9/11 ATTACKS”, n.d.). Right after that the steel of the multistory building, which was built
Would anyone have ever thought that on September 11th 2001 a life changing event would have occurred that put many homes in our country the weakest they have ever been, physically and emotionally? A heart aching event that will never be forgotten. The images of this unbelievable massacre that traveled all around the world just proved how helpless the world is to terrorism. However that shock turned into rage, fuming anger very quick. A terrifying mix of emotions began to settle across America when a hijacked airliner crashed into the Twin Towers in
Do you remember what you were doing on Tuesday, September 11th, 2001? Four airplanes were hijacked by members of the Islamic terrorist group, Al-Qaeda. Terrorists hijacked and crashed an American Airline flight and a United Airlines into the Twin Towers in Manhattan, New York, causing a devastating catastrophe. As a result, the World Trade Center collapsed, killing more than 2,600 innocent people including 19 terrorists. This event has so far been the worst act of terrorism in the United States that caused more than $10 billion in property damages. This disastrous day changed perceptions about the vigilance and security of the American nation.
The 13 year anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11 happened just last week, but the families who were affected by the attack remember it as if it was just yesterday. These two buildings were built with the upmost care and planning, but nothing could have stopped the collapse of these two buildings on that fateful day.
On September 11th, 2001, the United States suffered one of the most horrific attacks from inside our borders. Four planes were hijacked by Al Qaeda terrorists. Three of the planes reached their target. Of the three, two punctured the famous Twin Towers. The first hit the North Tower and the second hit the South Tower. When I first heard of this news, I was flabbergasted. No part of me could believe that the one of our most famous structures in the great NYC was hit. At first I didn’t have any thought that this had been terrorist.
On the morning of September 11th 2001, America suffered one of most deadly and well-known terrorist attacks in history. With over 3,000 deaths and damage to New York City and the Pentagon, America went into shock in under two hours. 20% of Americas knew of a family member, friend, or co-worker who suffered a causality in the attack. The Dow Jones Industrial Average suffered its greatest one day drop since the Great Depression, our nation’s worst economic period. The American people were placed in a situation they had never been before. They lost hope in government and its ability to protect our nation’s boundaries and our nation’s people. Troops were sent into Afghanistan and Iraq within months to protect our nation. Yet the American
I will always remember that moment. I was resting in a chair in the dining room at 8:40am of September 11, 2001. My family were gathered in the dining room for an early breakfast. My brother, Alex, was relaxing in the chair beside me. Also, my father, Chuck, was at the head of the table drinking his coffee with a touch of hazelnut and my mother, Judy, was seated next to him. In the room to the side of the dining room, the TV was powered on. Finally, at 8:45 a voice rang throughout the house.
“I know we’re all going to die. There’s three of us who are going to do something about it. I love you, honey.” Were the last words Thomas Burnett Jr. said to his wife before he sacrificed himself and took the plane back from the terrorists. The plane crashed in Pennsylvania, there were no survivors. Most people only remember those that lost their lives at the World Trade Centers, but we must not forget those who fought back. Those who lost their lives fighting for the safety of the country. In this day of remembrance, we must recall what we are here for. On September 11, 2001, 2,996 innocent lives were lost, 6,000 were injured, and millions across the nation were impacted. Brothers, sisters, parents and children lost their lives to the terrorist
Do you know what one of the most tragic events of America’s history is? On September 11, 2001 at 8:46 AM two hijacked planes crashed into both the North Tower of the World trade center. An hour before people had come to the World Trade center and in seconds they had died, leaving families torn, and maybe even never whole again.
On September 11 of the year 2001, America was shocked to its core. Since then, America has overcome this tragedy and also sought vengeance for those who lost loved ones and those who lost their own lives. Those responsible have been properly exterminated and those who helped have been eliminated. Only one thing hasn’t changed since then, people’s perception on what really happened on that day. They also wonder if the government had a hand in the falling/collapse of the twin towers.
The morning was same as always. The streets were busy, the sun was out, and everything was calm. You could walk outside and feel the cool breeze, and see the busy streets filled with people. The date is September 11, 2001. The time is 8:43 AM. Nothing is wrong, the city was filled with peace and business. Two minutes later a plane crashes into the World Trade Center. Shock ran throughout the city, as people were dazed and confused on what had just happened. Nobody knew that what started as just a normal day in New York City, would become the biggest terrorist attack on American soil. 9:03 AM the second plane crashes into the south tower. As police try to maintain the chaos and keep the people on the streets safe,
