9/11 Conspiracy Theory

Roughly 2,753 people were killed on September 11, 2001, by terrorists who overtook commercial airplanes (Jones). The cause of these thousands of deaths were a series of attacks in New York City by an Islamic terrorist group, Al-Qaeda. However, there are still many questions about what actually happened the morning of September 11, 2001. As there are many different conspiracy theories about what happened that day, 9/11 was an attack which began with Al- Qaeda hi-jacking airplanes, but ended with more questions than answers. Many questions still remain about the authenticity of cell phone calls from inside the planes, why air defense was told to “stand down,” and how three buildings imploded as the result of two buildings being struck by airplanes. …show more content…

Some believe that the fuel fires, with temperatures below the melting point of construction steel (2750 °F), were capable of brutally damaging the steel framework of the Twin Towers, and then causing them to downfall. Forman Williams states, “Jet fuel burned for maybe 10 minutes, and the Twin Towers were still standing after 10 minutes. However, the rest of the stuff that burned afterwards was responsible for the sustained heat that eventually brought the Towers down” (Mvargic). Essentially, Williams is saying that the Twin Towers didn’t burn down right away, but the heat from the planes brought them down. Others claim that cellphones work at altitude and there is plenty of evidence that they do. A passenger on Delta Flight 1989 at the time says, “The pilot had radioed that there was suspicious activity in the cabin since one of the passengers was speaking urgently on his cellphone and ignored repeated flight attendant requests to stop using his cell phone while in flight” (Traveling on Delta Flight 1989 on 9/11). This quote explains how if the passenger was able to make or receive lengthy and/or repeated calls at traveling altitude, the passengers on the 9/11 airplanes should have been able to do so as well. People believe that air defense was not told to “stand down” during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Michael Meacher says, “This …show more content…

Many people believe that the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks were an inside job for many reasons, some being that phone calls from the planes were faked, and air defense was told to “stand down” and three buildings imploded as the result of two buildings being struck by airplanes. It’s believed that the cell phone calls were faked because it’s not possible to have very good signal on a plane and the passengers seemed very calm and quiet while talking on the phone to their loved ones. Michael Woodward states, “During the entire conversation, Sweeney's voice "remained calm and even. After reporting that her plane was flying very low, Woodward recalled, she "took a very slow, deep breath and then just said, 'Oh, my God!' Very slowly, very calmly, very quietly. It wasn't in panic” (Shoestring 9/11). Amy Sweeney was a flight attendant who had been talking to her manager Michael Woodward during the time of the terrorist attack. He describes how her voice was very calm and how she didn’t seem scared about what was going on around her at all. It is also believed that air defense was told to “stand down”. According to NORAD, “It is standard operating procedure to scramble jet fighters whenever a jetliner goes off course or radio contact with it is lost” (NORAD Stand-Down). From this perspective, it is important that help is sent out if connection with the
