It was a cold January morning. The smell of fire was strong throughout the air and smoke filled the room. There was a strong, loud beeping sound throughout the house. It wasn’t just coming from one place, it was coming from multiple. My family hurries to find our animals as we call 911. I can’t be dreaming, is this real life? The smoke is filling up more rooms. It’s very hard to see. We have two animals, but where’s the third? She’s nowhere to be found and it’s not safe to stay inside. My dad has breathed in so much smoke. “I just want to lay down Bailey,” he states. He can’t lay down, we are almost to the door. Sirens are blaring from the fire trucks outside. Volunteer firefighters are running in without gear on to try and fight this fire themselves. In a small town, everyone knows everyone and they want to do whatever they can to help out. Fire trucks kept coming and neighbors gathered around to lend a hand. Many people brought blankets, offered hot chocolate, and a place to keep warm. They were all so kind, but I couldn’t take my eyes away from the house. Mom talks to us on the phone while she’s on her way home from work in Des Moines. My sister and I hug each other in disbelief and cry. We watch the firefighters throw everything out of my bedroom window, which is in the basement. …show more content…
All I could think was, is this my fault? It has to be my fault since it is coming from my room. Everyone assures me it’s not my fault though, and that things just happen. Mom finally arrives at home to see multiple fire trucks and firefighters everywhere. They finally have the fire out, but where’s our other cat? She can’t be left alone in there. My brother-in-law who is a firefighter goes inside one more time and can’t find the cat anywhere. He tells me, “she’s probably just in a safe hiding spot, you know how she always likes to hide from things.” I couldn’t help but cry, this doesn’t seem
The rumble turned into a shake that made Amanda and I turn around. The sight was indescribable. A massive cloud of dust darkened the sky. Almost like a tsunami of dirt. One of the towers collapsed. The dust burned my eyes to the point where I almost closed them completely. We ran fast but it felt faster because we couldn't see where we were going. I tripped a few good times. Amanda twisted her ankle so I opened one of the near by cars that was unlocked. I helped her in the car. We both thought this was the safest option and we were both out of breath. We could hardly see out the windows, in fact we couldn't. I pulled out my phone at this point. I had 19 missed calls from my parents because they new I was eating at the Copper Lantern which was near the Twin
Its was June of 2008, and the rain was coming down harder than ever. We were at a wedding reception in Des Moines, Iowa. Why were we even here when there are annoying beeping sounds all over, from the phones. We all started dancing and having fun until… my dad, Michael received a call from a friend. Wide eye stare as he frantically looks around the room. Then he whispers something into my mom, Hillary’s ear and she panicked. My sister, Lauren and I were having the best time dancing and playing around the room when my mom grabs my hand and says…
One man saw the fire and tried to get someone to use the fire box to get the fire department to send a fire truck. Sadly he had no such luck in notifying them. Fire boxes were boxes located on the street corner for people to use to alert the closest fire department, because telephones were not commonly available at that time. The other man just insisted that a fire truck had probably already been called and was on its way. The fire was so destructive because there were many mistakes and dangerous
The roaring fire ripped through Sherwood one August afternoon and steadily continued until the next morning. The dry grass and blazing heat were several factors that contributed to this catastrophe. There was physical damage from the surrounding wildlife. The heat from the blaze was like a Sea of Flames. The fire took it’s toll on the nearby companies. Officials report that one firefighter was injured when the train tracks collapsed. Another firefighter had to saw his leg out and he went to the hospital. The story behind what happened and who did it is still a big catechism. They have an idea that it had something to do with a man and 3 minors.
BEEP! BEEP! “Already,” James moaned. “I thought I had the snooze set for thirty minutes.” James thought to himself. Before he could even get out of bed, James's mother swung open the door so hard that he could have sworn she made a dent in the wall. “JAMES! YOU’RE GOING TO BE LATE FOR SCHOOL AGAIN! THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS WEEK, AND IT IS ONLY WEDNESDAY!” James quickly sprang up from his bed and began to apologize until he was interrupted as she continued to give him a lecture. She calmed down but then proceed to sass with, “Not only are you late, but your room has also seemed to be hit with a tornado. I want this cleaned up after you come home from school or else I’ll be sure you can’t feel your behind after I am done with you.” James
Claire Alistar shifts in her seat to cross her right ankle primly over her left and readjusts her large, black sunglasses so that they sit farther down on her nose so that she looks even more unimpressed. "Beck got caught during a job in cicily? Really? Cicily?"
It was a day like any other, until Surai hears a piercing screech that slowly fades away. “Hey, did you guys hear that?” says Surai. “Yeah it sounded like a scream” replies Tooler. “I wonder who it was?” questions Mickey. All of them rush to the edge and discover nothing. They all say their goodnights and return to our rooms. They all go to sleep wondering who made that noise. The next day we wake up and find a load of people crowded on the deck. “It’s chaos” Surai says. Tooler goes up and asks Schmedrick what’s wrong. “Schmandon has gone missing, and a bunch of people thought they heard a scream last night” replies Schmedrick. Surai, Mickey, and Tooler then realize that it was Schmandon who made the scream last night. “I think that Schmandon
Thunderous roar reverberates in the sky, hole after another fill the world, from within, lay another roar which makes us shudder in fear.
Maycomb County has been living a few dynamic days, as it not only snowed yesterday, but also today at approximately 2 in the morning a tremendous fire burnt the house of Maudie Atkinson to the ground. Even though the cause of the fire has not been confirmed yet, it is highly believed that it was due to the flue in her kitchen. Since it had not snowed since 1885, the people in town were not prepared. The fire truck was killed by the extreme weather and it took plenty of time for it to arrive to the scene, but fortunately it arrived in time to prevent the fire from spreading to other houses in the neighborhood. The commotion among everyone was clearly perceived.
His inspiration came from his observations of the devastating effects of structure fires, especially when they involve families with animal companions. When he first started the project, there was a fire that claimed the live of five pets. As the devastated family covered their beloved dogs and cats, one of the firefighters carried out a glass terrarium with a pet snake in it. The snake’s almost lifeless body lay in the terrarium. Then, within 20 minutes of oxygen from a pet oxygen mask, the snake flicked its tongue and sprang back to life. Bobby watched as the mentally and emotionally drained family drew strength and renewed spirits from this one pet’s survival. Sometimes it is just one miracle that provides the emotional glue for a family to heal and move forward after devastation and loss, he
Suena was walking home and she felt like she was being followed, but she thought it was because of the horror movie she watched the night before. It was about a twenty minute walk for Surena to get home and she often enjoyed but that day she didn’t enjoy it. When she got home there was a note on her fridge from her mother saying she’ll be back in a couple of hours and that there was leftovers in the fridge. She still had that icky feeling that someone was watching her, she kept saying in her head that it was just the horror movie scaring her. Her dog Belle was eating the couch again, when her mom got home she’d be mad. Surena went up stairs to her bedroom and forgot to lock the door that day, when her mother warned her many times before to
As kids, we were all warned about the basics. Call 911 for emergencies, tell an adult if someone touches you or even tell the teacher when someone says a bad word. But what happens when something happens to the last person you’d think it would happen to.. Yourself. Who could you actually turn to, and when the time struck, how would the words flow out to confess the crime done to you. Or even worse, would the words come out at all? “Can you tell me what happened exactly?” “It's okay to talk to us, we’re here to help you, not hurt you.” The words kept ringing in my head. But was it okay to talk to them? Speak of the unspeakable with people... people I didn't know, nor trust? Being so young I had no idea what was going on. As my heart was racing,
"This is 911, what is your emergency?" A desperate eleven year old girl tried to answer the operator's question, but all I could manage were sobs.
Text BoxWhen reporters arrived on the scene, the street was filled with men moving furniture out of the house before the flames could devour it. Others used water hoses to put out the fire and stop it from spreading. Many of the citizens were not dressed in their usual attire; they were in such a hurry that they were still in their pajamas. Children stood nearby watching the action, apparently confused about what was happening.
On December 15, the stranger snuck into the house while Susan and her family were at dinner. While trying to steal the figurines, the stranger thought they heard a noise and grabbed the figurines, but knocked over a lantern on their way out. The lantern caused a fire to breakout. By the time the family returned home there were sirens and flashing lights outside of the house. Together there was one police car, an ambulance in case, and two firetrucks. Luckily for the family the fire didn’t spread really quickly and was contained in the family room, so there was no major
