At least three of the seven habits from the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens can be applied to a freshman's first year of high school. When reading this book, the three habits that stuck out the most were: habit two, habit three, and habit five. These habits were the ones that stuck out most because every freshman can easily apply them to their first year of highschool. If you want to have a successful freshman year of high school you may want to take some of the tips. Habit two, was one of the habits that can be applied to a high school freshman’s first year, because it talks about being with the end in mind. Being with the end in mind means that you should control your own destiny or someone else will. Which also means that you should take control of yourself and take care of your responsibilities before you take care of someone else and their …show more content…
Habit three is “Put First Things First” meaning will and won’t power. Habit three explains how you should prioritize the most important things that have to get done. For example, if you have a five paragraph essay due tomorrow but you want to go out with your friends, you should pick which is most important and do that and then find other time to do the other thing. In this case you should probably prioritize the five paragraph essay before going out with your friends. Sean said, “The problem comes when we become so focused on urgent things that we put off important things that aren't urgent, like working on that report in advanced, going for a walk in the mountains, or writing an important letter to a friend. All these important things get pushed aside by urgent thinks, like phone calls, interruptions, drop-ins, deadlines, other people's problems, and other “in-your-face-do-it-now” things,”(108). Like Sean said, sometimes the things that are more important get pushed aside for the things that have to happen right
Over the summer, I read a book titled, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Convey. The seven habits described in this book were being proactive, Beginning with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek first to understand, then to be understood; synergize, and sharpen the saw. The first habit Being proactive means not to make choices on impulse. it means to evaluate the situation before making a desicion. for example, two years ago when i had friends that talked behind my back i just moved on and found better friends rather than be mean to them or excluding them out of my way. The second habit Beginning with the end in mind means to think ahead at what your goals are and start working towards them. My goal for the eight grade year was to recieve a 95% or higher score in all of my classes. in order to realize this goal i worked hard through the year on assignments and and sometimes did more than what was expected of me during projects. in the end, though,
According to Goalband.co.uk, statistics show People with written goals are 50% more likely to achieve than people without goals. In the novel The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, by Sean Covey distributed many habits that can be applied to a high school freshman. In the novel, Covey teaches his readers qualities, of acceptable habits, use in their everyday lives and substandard habits to steer away from. Covey educates his readers through habit one, three, and two on how to be proactive, to set up priorities, and how to think with the end in mind, so that teens can achieve their goals. In the novel, readers will learn seven habits that will be of great and efficient use during their high school years.
The second habit of Seven Habits Of Highly Effective Teens is to begin with the end in mind. Like you don’t want to start a problem without thinking about the outcome of the situation. This habit practically mean to plan ahead and to make goals. Planning ahead means you most likely will achieve your goal because you know what the outcome will be. Not beginning with the end in mind is like not thinking about tomorrow and just flowing with life with no plan. If you we aren’t clear about our end in mind, we’ll wander, waste time, and get lost.
Habit two Begin with the end in mind, is about Beginning with the end in mind. How do you do that you may ask. Well you begin with what you want to do with anything you want. Especially in school, you need to figure out what you want to be and focus on grades before anything. If you are the age and have a relationship focus on your grades for your family that will come in the future. In habit 2 it brings up your pba again… This time it talks about Focus on yourself before others.
Did you know that studies show that people who go over their goals daily by writing them down, reviewing them, and preparing them, their chances of succeeding doubles than a person who doesn't? Habits (topics) one to three from The 7 Habits of HIghly Effective Teens explain how to become successful, have positive attitudes, good choices, and how to calmly handle some important situations. The three habits are Being Proactive, Beginning with the End in Mind, and lastly, Putting First Things First.
One habit discussed in “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” is “Begin with the end in mind”, which is based on the concept of beginning every day and every task with a clear vision of the desired goals and direction while being proactive to make these happen. This habit is grounded on the ability to envision the future and define one’s personal, moral, and ethical guidelines which contribute to the attainment of the desired outcomes or destination (Covey, 2004).
Habit 1 : Be Proactive. The Habit of Personal Vision. According to Covey, this habit reflects our innate ability to take charge of our lives. We are not simply products of in-grained stimulus- response reflexes. We have the ability to take charge, plan ahead, and focus our energies on things we can control instead of reacting to or worrying about things over which we have little or no control. This habit allows us to rise above the ebbs and flows of the tides of our day-to-day lives and direct our lives.
This habit is about prioritizing, planning, and executing a week 's tasks based on importance rather than urgency. It requires that I evaluate whether or not my efforts exemplify my desired character values, propel me towards my goals, and enrich the roles and relationships discussed in Habit 2.
I love the way this book provides different depictions and examples of bad habits and how the person fixed it. According to “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens” on page 159 the author states, “My sister and I are always arguing about who has to walk the dogs and do the dishes. We both would choose the dogs over the dishes any day. But someone has to do one or the other. So we decided that I would wash the dishes, she would dry them, and then we’d walk the dogs together. I am glad it worked out like that, because now we get what needs to be done finished but also add a little fun by doing it together.” The following quotation shows one of the situations the author, Sean Covey, has included in the text. The following situation presents a
Stephen R. Covey defines the phrase in Habit 2: “begin with the end in mind” as beginning each day, task, or project with a clear vision of your desired direction and destination, and then continues by activating your proactive influences to make these things happen. He defines the phrase in Habit 3 “put first things first” as organizing and managing time and events according to the personal priorities established in Habit 2. In the paper I will explain how these two habits effect will help me perform in my internship, my personal and professional efforts, and my future career values.
The ten habits of a successful student are extremely important. The first one is getting organized. Getting organized is important, because you need to know what you are going to do and when you are going to do it. The second one is do not multitask. Just admit, you are not good at it. When you learn to get organized you can multitask. The third one is
Trust me when I say that after you master the following three habits that everyone can benefit from, you will develop new habits that resonate with you and benefit your unique life and your goals. First, though, you have to develop an appreciation for yourself and life in general, the ability to stay present and focused on what matters to you, and the awareness of what works and what doesn't work in your life.
Habits are choices that people continue to make repeatedly without consciously thinking about them. They start as decisions, but eventually become an autonomic process. Habits are very useful tools if known how to construct properly, however, they can also be destructive. It is crucial to understand how they work and the components behind them in order to overcome the destructive habits. A common misconception about habits is that in order for one to change their habit, willpower is the most important component. Many people try to change their habits and often fail. The main reason they fail is because they believe that changing habits relies only on willpower - the control exerted to do something or restrain impulses - without understanding the nature of how habits work. In Charles Duhigg’s The Power of Habit, he explains how habits work and what components must be understood in order to overcome bad habits effectively. Although willpower relates to habit change, the most important and effective components of changing habits include the habit loop, craving, and routine.
Habits come in many forms and they may be good, bad or just in between and not really matter. It could be positive thinking, blaming yourself or something as simple as forgetting to turn off the lights. Stephen Covey defines habits as the intersection of knowledge, skill and desire. In his book, “7 Habits of Highly Effective People”, he shares a couple of habits that can lead an individual to personal and professional success. Out of the seven habits, I feel that the first three which are being proactive, beginning with the end in mind and putting first things first are the most fundamental habits to paving the road for becoming a better individual and manager.
I will be talking about effects in life of the 3 habits. Also, the three habit are proactive, begin with the end in mind and First thing First. i will be talking about how we use it in life and how important it is.
