60 Years Ago A Metcalfe county coon hunt was televised over WLAC-TV, Channel 5, Nashville, on the Wood’s N Waters program on January 11 [1958]. The movie of the hunt was made by Burnis Skipworth, regional director Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, State of Kentucky. An interesting feature of the program was the fact that five coons were found in one tree. Hunters seen on the program were Fred Nunn, his son Freddie, Carl Fraser, Urey Glass, and Keith Rowe. The dogs were owned by Fred Nunn. Also shown was Henry Poynter of Knob Lick with a 24-point buck killed near Mammoth Cave. 50 Years Ago High school student Daryl Robbins was the first place county winner in the 1967 Soil Conservation Essay contest, sponsored annually by the Courier-Journal, …show more content…
and Mrs. South. Their cars were keyed and car windows smashed, plus they received several nuisance phone calls. On two separate nights bullets were fired into their front window and into the wall of their living room. The Hornets are among the state’s top 10 teams in the categories of Scoring Teams and Free Throw Percentage Teams. Metcalfe County is ranked 9th among Scoring Teams (ranked by points per game). 10 Years Ago Edmonton Elementary implemented a new program to assist students with homework issues, personal problems, and other topics that affect students. Hornets Helpers have been selected from the 6th grade by their peers based on confidentiality and trust. After being selected, the students were trained by Superintendent Hurt. The object of this program is to give students someone to go to when they need someone to listen, guide, connect with, and just be there, but they aren’t comfortable going to an adult. IF students do want or needs to talk to an adult the School Guidance Counselor is always
In Farley Mowat’s, “Observing Wolves”, Never Cry Wolf, 1963 story he writes about his trip to the Keewatin Barren Land in the Northwest Territories. He was sent there by the Canadian government to prove or disprove that the wolves were eating the caribou. Before Mowat went on his journey he would have planned what equipment he needed to bring, how to prove or dis-prove to the Canadian government that the wolves are eating the caribou, and how Mowat would have prevented the wolves from attacking him.
According to The Columbus Dispatch, the woman who identified herself only as Lanita called 911 after the incident and was quoted saying, “Somebody just broke into my house, and they’re shot. They’re in my kitchen, and I don’t know if they’re alone or what. I heard a whole bunch of rattling on my side door.”
Hunting is a common activity all around the world, and if performed properly, can have many benefits to us and the rest of the planet. The art of hunting has been around since the beginning of time. Living off of the land used to be a necessity across the world, until the mass production of food came along. In America, people do not usually need to hunt to survive. However, the population of animal species needs to be controlled. Too many of one type of animal can cause a drastic change to any ecosystem. Food supplies decline quickly, leaving many animals without food. Hunting can help keep the population of a group of animals at a good number, making the lives of the other
Maine Coons have held cat show titles longer than most people think. In the ‘old’ days, Maine
The interview had taken place at the Fish and Game office in Jerome, Idaho on November 18 at about 3:30. He said that when ever Officers are called out to inspect a dead animal that they treat it like a murder case. Officer Clint Rodgers had said that on average he is called out to 20 to 30 poaching calls a month. In the region that he patrols he says that the most poached animals are mule deer and elk. One question I had asked is if he had ever had to deal with people that poach an animal for food because they are struggling and he had said hes had to deal with about 5-6 in the 8 years he has been an Officer. He also said that for the people that Fish and Game catches poaching for food will not be able to keep the animal and normally get just a warning. Officer Clint Rodgers says that most poachers will kill an animal either for fun or kill it for the antlers and that most poaching will occur from august to January. In one article that the reporter had interviewed Regional Conservation Officer Josh Royse, says that he told them that usually gets at least two reports a week of someone unlawfully taking an animal and that about 90% of cases are solved through the public's help. For most of his cases they include people who made a poor decision or misidentified an animal and turn themselves in. Fish and Game tries to reward honesty when people come forward and tell the truth the first
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has been around for over 75 years. Throughout its rich history, MDC has faced many hardships including deforestation and the almost extirpation of several native animal species, including deer. The agency worked hard at reviving its devastated state only to face yet another natural giant, disease. In 2010, the first case of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) was found in the Northwest corner of the state (mdc.mo.gov, 2017). This disease affects the cervid population, which includes deer
Throughout the 1970’s, the US Fish and Wildlife Service developed a criteria to help identify the red wolf from the other the canids in order to protect them. Between 1974 and 1980, the US Fish and Wildlife service used this to identify and discovered that there only 17 red wolves remaining in the
When you were younger, did you ever get separated from your parent and not know what to do or whom to go to for assistance, and because you didn’t know what to do you just wandered aimlessly around? I know I have, and that’s what a lot of people who are lost like that do. In fact, that happens a lot here with new students. Yes, there are the peer helpers but that only gives the new student one guide for one day. And that guide doesn’t even show them their classes, they take them to the classes they have and then the new student, the very next day, is on their own to find their own way. But wouldn’t it be great if they knew someone, or multiple people who could help them on the spot, almost anytime during the school
A 12 year old girl in Oklahoma was all alone in her home. Suddenly, a loud banging began on the door to the house. The glass was shattered and the intruder entered the home. Kendra, paralyzed with fear, bewildered of what she should do. She called her mother asking for help, “Kendra, get the gun and go get in my closet now! And call 911!” As recorded by the 911 tapes the girl was in a panic hiding in the closet with a .40 caliber glock. A police officer was on his way, but then, the knob of the door started to turn. Kendra fired a shot through the door hitting Stacy Jones (intruder) in the shoulder, sending him fleeing. The police later caught him and charged him with first degree burglary (Greenblatt, Mark. School counselors collaborate with other school personnel such as teachers who will help implement guidance lessons in the classroom. As a school counselor it is important to keep the teachers motivated to help implement these programs. Resource teachers typically work the special education students, collaborating with resource teachers ensures that all students are included in the comprehensive program. The resource teacher can help provide alternative to working with students in an inclusive manner. The principles and assistance principles of the school typically serve on the advisory committee, they provide resources to the program, and help communicate the important of the counseling program. School psychologist are there to assist with mental health services, doing assessments, and working with the school counselor during crisis situations. School nurses provide health services to the students. They monitor student medications and note changes in students behavior or effectiveness of the medication. Secretaries are equally important in the collaborative model. Secretaries are typically the first person a parent will come in contact with when entering the school. They are the ones that create that first impression (Erford, 2015). Community agencies can provide additional support to students outside of
The next school to present was Floyd C. Fretz Middle School by their principles Mrs. Slaven and Mrs Signor. Overall, Fretz scored an 84.5%. Looking over the information they received from the state, they concluded that the math program was doing well. Mrs. Slaved credited the students for their hard work. In addition to crediting the students, the principle said that the teachers have implemented a new program called HERE. HERE is a program where a teacher “adopts” a student and mentors them whether it is to improve academically or socially. The staff at Fretz feels the program works well with students who are at risk but does not do much for the advanced students. In class we discussed that middle school is a challenging time period for adolescence. I think the program they have implemented will help to greatly ease the challenges students face. In class we
Despite living in a world where immediate solutions or answers to problems is the expected, in my role of Pupil Support Worker at a local Secondary school, it is very apparent that one solution most certainly does not fix all. Someone once said, “You have to change by yourself, but you don’t have to do it alone”. It takes time to build a relationship with a young person, and even more time until they have come to their solution. For this to work effectively, I have to engage with my clients using counselling skills, without being a qualified counsellor. This essay will look at the above question and answer what I deem to be essential in a helping relationship.
My role at the school is to provide one-on-one counseling for identified, at risk youth, as well as to co-facilitate groups--both full classroom and afterschool. I currently have five students in my individual caseload; I co-facilitate one after-school group for 3rd grade boys, and a 1st and 2nd grade boys’ group one day per week during lunch.
A school counselor’s role is vital in many schools across America. Many students see their counselor, to work on any emotional stressors, academic changes and challenges. This may include, interventions, group therapy and changes in class schedule, but sometimes with all the implementations given, students do not succeed in school. Perhaps one needs to take a closer look at the programs being implemented and its success rate. In addition, a counselor should guide itself using the ASCA (American School Counselor Association) to provide evidence based practices in schools.
Impacting the lives of children must be approached from a team perspective to address all aspects of the child’s environment and relationships including caregivers, peers, teachers and school. Behavioral Counselors must collaborate with school counselors to understand the impact that school and teachers have on the child’s life. To appreciate School Counseling a review of the specialization’s history is important. School Counselors have evolved from vocational guidance and job-orientated counseling following World War I to educational guidance following World War II due to the passing of the GI bill as veterans were given right to education counseling (Minkoff, 1985). Today School Counselors support a wide variety of needs from a wide variety of student populations including but not limited to depression, college guidance, anxiety, oppositional disorder and developmentally delayed due to change in access to mental health care being more privatized (Lockhart & Keys, 1998). Lockhart states that because of the restructuring in access to care school counselors have been pushed to handle a wider variety of needs within mental health (1998).
