Paragraph Reconstruction Ballerinas can tell a story like no other. They are known for being graceful, having such beauty, and poise in the way they care themselves. When given a part or role they commit to it, because they are great storytellers it is easy to draw or paint them with a raw and emotional background. A ballerina is known for having pain inflicted lives. Everything a dancer does is shown through through their body. A dancer’s body is well formed, toned, and defined, but more importantly it’s in their eyes and in their performance. The painting that I am analyzing show’s exactly how dark a dancer’s can get.
The background is what sets the mood in a painting. The subtle, yet impressionable brush strokes with the well blended color.

From a woman’s point of view, she looks as if she has reached her breaking point. Trying to stay strong, her emotions overwhelm her while she dances and it becomes a little too much for her. A cry for help is upon her. Her hair is also free and in a mess; normally when ballerinas perform their hair is nice tight and in a bun. Her muscle so defined, and still pale as if she had seen a ghost. You can tell a lot of work has been put into achieving the body she has. It stands out with the white, flowy, soft dress.
Her clothing is white. It seems as if she is trying to still maintain her innocence; maybe the dress is white because it symbolizes who she once were, or someone she longed to be. White coloring is supposed to symbolize something pure; maybe with how the background is contrast the white coloring can still show even though darkness is surrounding her, she can still maintain or be the person the thought she lost. It is very easy for ballerinas to be painted as a tragedy figure because they are great storytellers. They tend to capture every emotion and every aspect of a tragedy in one’s life. The appearance is everythings, and how they dance. From facial features to silhouette, even down to their hair. Everything about their appearance makes them the perfect candidate to be drawn as the tragedy
Save The Last Dance and How She Move are two dance drama films. The two films depict shared dreams and the trials which follow it, using dance and its genres as an outlet for expression and a channel to redemption. The films also use dance to unfold subtle themes of gender role stereotypes and gender inequalities which are present within society. Specifically, gender roles are portrayed in Save The Last Dance and How She Move within social norms and the affects it plays on the dancing bodies, the dance styles of ballet, hip-hop and step dancing as well as within the narrative. These gender roles in which females and males are expected to display have long been prescribed, often to fit the needs of society. This essay will discuss and analyze
The photograph symbolizes the effects of expectations can have on a person by examining the features of the character. The focus of the image is on the ballerina whose position is uncomfortable, and stressed from the hunch which portrays escapism. She is hunched over, beginning to step into the other side where there is a world with no precision. As a dancer, she wants to get away from the expectations of perfection that a ballerina has, and the innocence shown in her white dress. Her attire is a white luminated dress that signifies, “mental clarity, promoting feelings of fresh beginnings and renewal, clearing obstacles and clutter, and encouraging the purification of thoughts and actions” that represents her want of freedom from expectations (Bourn, Web). The placement, and space of the ballerina is closer towards the left where the distorted mirror is brightly highlighted than the darker side. This is used to provide insights into what is important in the image, which is her desire to be set free, and to escape to a whole different world. As seen in the image, the concentration of the light aimed at the
May 5, 2016 was one of the happiest moments of my entire life. That was the day made possible for me to see a live performance. It was my very first time and have to admit I was super exciting entering the auditorium. Marymount Dance Department presented the 2016 Spring Repertoire. I felt so proud walking in as a dancer watching a live performance. The show began and my heart skipped a beat. Marymount’s Dancers At Work presented in a beautiful manner that drove into their movements. There were numerous moves that we did that they presented in their routine. I was most proud when I saw one colored dancer in the piece Regality. She performed incredibly well I began to move along with her. There was uses of high jumps, releve’s, plié’s, pirouette’ and many more. I was not sure what the dancers were doing, but all I Knew was that I needed to be on that stage doing exactly what they did.
Her chirography contains elongated movements that are slow and flowy. When she moves it has a conclusion point but is not in no particular rush to get there. When she interacts with her partner, the man is the driving force. For example, if there was a combination he would make the bigger, perciser movements while she would make daintier movements. The white is also part of her description. The dress is flowy and pure white which accents her character of peacefulness. The white also coordinates with her choreography of wispy movement and contrasts the earthy tones of the other dancers who are big and precise. The conclusion of her elements and movements lead to her embodying a more traditional love. To illiterate, she represents a calm, slow burning love that lasts longer than a passionate love. This is also shown through the stark differences and conflicting dance style of the red
Nina’s infatuation with a perfect routine has exceeded the point of unhealthy. The stress causes her to pick at her skin and scratch her back so much so that she causes herself to bleed and have visible, unattractive scars. These ailments serve as physical reflections of her mental condition… Stressed, overworked and undernourished. Throughout the film, Nina’s physical complications negatively impact her dancing as the sprains and bruising is exacerbated throughout her practicing and instructors comment on the unattractive scratches as a cosmetic issue for the ballet.
Dance is a form of movement that can help us heal. I have always felt that a person can dance off any type of bad energy in their life. Through expression and release we can mend our wounds spiritually. It is the intention and focus behind the movement that is important for healing. This is a painting of dancer, actress, Maya Louisa. Maya is from Brooklyn that dedicates her life to the performance arts fiercely. The Dance Healing is s 30x40 acrylic painting done on 1 inch Canvas in the Xmas of 2012 into
Indeed, it portrays a transformation of social life into economic life, a theme that the artist exploited in his representation of professional women. Specifically, Degas represented professional women in a way that showed how their bodies were singularly “oppressed” by their work. The Dance Lesson represents a number of women who appear to have been forced to spend long hours working on strenuous and disciplined balletic moves. Particularly the female on the foreground to the left who appears lost in deep thought is in a state of near collapse, sleeping on her crossed elbows. Another lady in pink sits on a chair and looks on others lazily while at the farthest of the plane there is a group of girls, one fanning herself, another leaning on the wall, and another pair appears to be massaging their arching muscles. Kane cites that one can choose to see the lady in the foreground in a red shawl as a “statue of cares and weariness.” Iskin also confirms that “Degas returned to their bodily particularity, their weariness and their shared human predicament.” Most of the young ladies in The Dance Lesson bear the signs of their labour, for some still, maintain their posture that ballet training demands even while slumped in fatigue. This exhibition of their working status at all times reflects a popular theme on the working woman in the late 19th century.
Looking at Lindsey Stirling’s music video, it is seen that Lzzy Hail is not the ballerina, but Lindsey Stirling is. Immediately seeing this, a perception of a ballerina is encountered. The ballerina is seen as poised, confident, perfectly positioned, and composed. In light of this, the ballerina is imprisoned by her own perceptions and
Edgar Degas frequently focuses on ballerinas, as the subject matter for many of his artworks, ‘Le foyer de la danse à l'Opéra de la rue Le Peletier’, 1872 additionally incorporates ballerinas. Degas’ ballerina piece was painted on a canvas, sized 32cm by 46cm, using oil paints as the medium. Degas’ painting portrays a group of ballerinas rehearsing in the foyer of the l'Opéra de la rue Le Peletier. The group of ballerinas are dispersed around the canvas, some are placed in the foreground whilst others are situated further in the background. Degas illustrates the many ballerinas in the painting to wear the same simple white outfit. However, to differentiate the ballerinas from each other they wear bows of different hues around their waist, whilst
“Russian ballet dancers seem to have no limits! Their arabesques and battement are sweeping, dimensional and yet very light and flexible. An expert can immediately distinguish them from artists belonging to other schools.” (Gureev, 2016)
Ballet played an enormous role in this beautiful artistic story of The Swan, for the very simple reason that every movement and every gesture signifies a different experience for someone who is opening up your mind, and eyes that they’re attempting to escape death. The ballet is not about a ballerina being able to transform herself into a swan, but about death, with the swan simply being a metaphor for that. Watching Svetlana Zakharova performing The Swan she really used a combination of masterful technique with expressiveness. It was like she was proving that dance could and should satisfy not only the eye, but through the medium of the eye should penetrate the soul. If you sit back, close your eyes, and just listen to the musical tempo
The high contrast in colors between the dancer and the background immediately catches your eye. Along with this, among the centered dancers, is the only woman in a red dress. This throws you off until you pay more attention to the smaller details, such as all of the dancers’ faces’. You quickly see that, out of all the women, the three in the front are the only ones with any sort of facial structure and features. Although not very detailed, it gives away a lot of information. Carefully scanning over all of the woman, you can clearly
The romantic tutu, a calf-length, full skirt made of tulle, was introduced.” Through all of the many kinds of ballet, they all tell a story in some way.
From Swan Lake to Cinderella, ballet is an amorous language, expressed not by means of the voice, but the physique. It attributes to bountiful, period pieces, remarkable performances, and particular proficiency. The amphitheater is compressed of men and women of all ages. The gas lanterns softly illuminate the theatre and the silhouette of a configuration can be made out within the crepuscule of the spotlight. During the time that she transpires, she is like a mirage: a long, gracious physique wrapped in her bodice and petite but firm tutu. Captivating the audience on her tiny threadbare pointe shoes as she descends across the stage. Passion and admiration consume the air as she gyrates in such a way it’s like witnessing magic. My mom
Degas attended the opera and was fascinated by the ballet dancers. He was allowed backstage by a friend. He studied every movement of the dancers, their body language, each pause and every expression on their faces. In his painting the dancers are seen stretching and adjusting their outfits. His fascination was more towards the rehearsal than the performance on stage. The dancers in his painting are seen playing with their hair and ribbons giving little attention to their master. They look exhausted in the painting. Even though this is the work of an impressionist a little bit of perspective can be seen on observing the floor of the room in the
