When considering the change from 5 to 4-day workweeks it is important to choose which path the department would like to pursue. The 32-hour 4-day workweek or the 4-day 10-hour workweek. By increasing the workday to 10 hours a day, there may be a need for more breaks within one day. This can be done and worked through, but will cause a problem if employee and employer don't agree. I.T. employees may also have an issue with daycare adjustments for their children.
In the epic poem, The Odyssey, the protagonist, Odysseus, is most definitely an anti-hero. Although the author, Homer, uses Achilles as an epic hero, he shows Odysseus as the opposite. Odysseus and his crew went into the unknown cave knowing something big was living in there. The men insisted that they should leave but Odysseus wanted to stay, “they beached there” (Homer IX, 95). The crew stayed out there for a bit but not long after the massive cyclops came bashing in.
It is not recommend moving the employees from the current 24/48 schedule. The current schedule seems to balance the workload placed on the employees with the department’s functional needs. In terms of economic benefits, we find that the department would realize no major cost savings because of a schedule change.
Beware of the Dust Buddies: Dusting Under the Couch Will Never be the Same Again
In this set of materials, the writer discusses the benefits of four-day work week for companies, the whole economy, and individuals. However, the lecturer is in disagreement with what the writer states.
Most people believe that students should have a four day school week because students benefit from less homework, the students can also get a better math score, and the student can also be more productive. There is a boost in math scores and other classes, the shorter school schedule resulted in a seven percent increase in math and a three percent boost in reading. This shows that there is more of a dramatic improvement in students math score. According to Education.seattlepi “512 schools have tried this method with the shorter schedule and it became more popular from the great outcomes from other schools. This shows that students do better in school from the four day school week.
Before introducing the workplace issues related to the development of four-day workweek, a clear definition of this schedule is needed. According to Department of Labor (n.d.), “A workweek is a fixed and regularly recurring period of 168 hours, or seven consecutive 24-hour periods. The workweek does not have to coincide with the calendar week, but instead it may begin on any day of the week and at any hour of the day.” It might be the “four-day, 32-hour workweek – more leisure, less work” (Wernette 1), or the “three-day, 40 hour, compressed work week” that Vega
The passage argues that many employees prefer to work a four-day per week and it brings benefits to the economy , the company and the employees themselves. In contrast , the lecture holds the opposite opinion.
Another reason why switching to a 4 day week is because it improves academic and morale performances. According to a paper, a fourth grade math scores went up over the course of a 4 day school week. Also, work employees morale goes up because they get to spend
Before I labeled the change from a 10-hour workday to an 8-hour workday “relatively painless,” I’d ask the workers effected by the change whether they found it to be “relatively painless.” It may be the same number of hours per week, but the physical and mental stress of a 10-hour day may be disproportionately larger than that of an 8-hour day. In my experience, that’s definitely been the case.
The 4 day work week is not a new idea. It is one that has had its share of controversies over the years. Introduced in the 1970’s the idea of the 4 days work week has been making a comeback as of lately. There are several issues to look at here. One of the main statements in regards to it is that productivity will decrease because of fatigue. A 10 hour work day is too long. On the flipside, another of the main issues pointed out by proponents is that productivity will increase because you will have a workforce with higher morale. In this paper, we will discuss
To makes matters worse, the companies are more likely to offer a promotion to a 5 days a week employee than a 4 day a week employee because the first one is more valuable to the company than the
Im a pretty clumsy person so I need benifits, you never know when something life changing could happen and you end up in the hospital or something. I rather have insurance, instead of paying out of pocket. That would really stink. The only way to keep those benifits is, if we keep the mandatory eight hour work day. I understand that it has been proven that people who work six hour work days have some of the highest productivity in companies with extra breaks. That would give them more time to gather themselves and get back on track. But currently at the job im working I get two fifteen minute breaks and a half hour lunch break. Those seem to work well for me and the group I work with. We accomplish a lot and have high productivity. So it goes to show its just about your determintation and your mindset. To some up why I believe we should stick with the mandatory eight hour work day is, we will be healthier, finacially we will be better off, and we will keep our health benifits. The six hour work day clearly has been proven that if you only work those six hours those things I just stated you will not have and it will be the complete
It’s a chilly Monday morning for the students of Colby High School, all the students come in exhausted from their 3-day weekend because of all the late nights they had either binge watching their favorite shows or even just talking all night to their friends. This all happened because the students knew that they get an extra day to sleep in, but there are other students who studied for a test he or she may have in a class. They could have also done homework all weekend because of the extra day off school. This happens during a four day week with Friday off for a Teacher Development Day for the students of Colby High. Imagine this is the case every week for a school year. Schools are transferring from a five-day school week to a four-day school
First of all, the author claims that four-day workweek causes increasing company profits. He believes shortened workweek may cause employees to be more effective and decrease their working errors. He states that hiring new employees will not lead to increasing company costs because
As public health professionals we have a Code of Ethics that dictates how we should care for the community. The Code of Ethics and Healthy People dictates inclusion of all people not relative to gender, race or religion (Healthy People 2020). Health educators, as their Code of Ethics dictates should be influenced by facts and evidence irrespective of their social or moral views, just as Healthy People uses measurable goals and data to shape public policy. For example, political agendas can trump best health interests of minorities and the disadvantaged. Kass (2001) states, “public health has affirmative obligations to improve the public’s health and arguably, to reduce certain social inequities”.
