2000's Fashion In The United States

The late 1990’s into the early 2000’s was a time of great economic success that took a turn for the worst as the war against terrorism began. In America, the economy was at its peak especially on Wall Street until September 11th 2001. The attacks that occurred on September 11th deeply affected America. The attacks caused the Dow to drop tremendously along with causing the recession to deepen. America was led into of the biggest government spending periods in a long time. The cost to fund the war along with to rebuild the economy held a toll on all Americans. America had to dig itself out of a hole. Unlike the economy, technology was on the rise. Many new inventions such as wireless internet, mobile devices, and new forms of social media were created.

The twenties, back in the day people would dress up all the time. The most famous clothing back then was the Flappers. Clothing back then was sort of like lady Gaga’s, but much milder. Back then, the people’s culture was different, so much so, that you might think it’s creepy, wired or perhaps cool. The people, of course, started trends old and new trends. The main problem is the supporters, like the people who want to wear the clothes or not.

Before the 1920’s, women’s attire was considered fairly modern. Women would have worn clothing with more of a silhouette than clothing that was loose and flowy. The length of their dresses never revealed more of their leg than just their ankle. Women received bad reputations when showing their knees or even their calfs. Women in the 1920’s also had a different ideal figure than most women do today. The body types women wanted to achieve also transformed into a more feminine look. This look consisted of low bust lines, higher hems lines, and showing off more curves than ever before. These women became unapologetically fearless.

The 1920’s fashion was a period of liberation, change, and even more importantly a movement towards the modern era. Fashion in the 1920’s varied throughout the decade but one could see the noticeable change from the previous fashion statements and eras. At the start of the decade, women began emancipating themselves from the constricting fashions by wearing more comfortable apparel. As women gained more rights and World War I forced them to become more independent, flappers came to be, mass-produced garments became available, and artistic movements increased in popularity, one can see how the fashions from the roaring twenties characterized the time and redefined womanhood. An unforgettable decade, 2000 had many amazing events and outcomes. Many which have impacted our society and the way we live in America today. As a country and even the world, people, governments and cultures have changed and grown from events that occurred during this decade. The 9/11 attacks on America, the Iraqi War, the presidential election of Barack Obama and the introduction of Twitter are just a few examples of what americans have experienced during these unforgettable ten years.

Women's fashion during this time period reflected off the liberation movement, the first world war, and the start of prohibition. Which opened a window for clothing designer resulting in innovative styles. Designers could now test new fabrics, colors, and textures.

In the year of 2000 when I was born many thing were happening. Things happen happening locally like money doesn't matter (“Toledo Blade”). Success was also happening early at Wynn elementary. A big national problem was happening too, two hijacked planes hit the World Trade Center. That changed many people's life and many people died that day. “It was a war against our way of life, a war of terror, and our response would dominate the decades and years to come” (“Historical Events”). Also cost of many products we need were very cheap in the 2000s like the price of milk was $2.88. Not just the bad but also happening internationally was the Olympic Games opened in Australia (“Major World Events”). Which the Olympic Games were always a big thing

This essay will explore the effects social and political changes had on fashion in the 1980’s. This period was chosen because the new romantic fashions were so different to the punk fashions that had been before, this essay will therefore identify the changes that had taken place to influence this change. Primary evidence used to support findings will include interviews and photographs which will show a firsthand account of the period.

Fashion plays an important role in society and it has changed greatly over the last twentieth century. Fashion in the 1920s consisted of a dramatic change in style. After World War I, the flapper movement occurred.

Have you ever wondered where your clothes came from or who had made them? Well, Grace Donnelly from John Carroll University did she voices “ as I become more aware of working conditions in the factories that supply fast fashion stores I turned more into fair-trade clothes”. The clothing industry has changed drastically throughout the century. Overtime Americans like Grace have changed their views on clothing, fashion, and labor due to the many changes in working conditions, clothing, and where the clothes are made.

Much like the stocks of the 1920’s, women’s skirts and hemlines began to rise. The Roaring Twenties is known as the Jazz Age, with new freedoms, women’s rights, and the dawn of the daring flapper. The 1920’s were buzzing after the Great War was over. Everything began to change and everything was roaring. The stock market and the 19th Amendment influenced fashion in the 1920’s.

People may say that the true years of fashion began in the late nineteen forties and went on through the early nineteen sixties. If you look at fashion today, its almost repeated the look from sixty years ago. In each generation fashion trends become based on history and/or important events. in the nineteen forties fashion was being modeled by the military wear. World War II caused a drastic change in the way clothes were being made and worn. In the nineteen fifties Americans admired the fashion of movie stars and music artists. Fashion was all the rage back in the 1980s. Mostly men and women wore a mullet, kids wore their jelly shoes, and teens had their boom boxes. But there’s way more to it than fashion. There’s also fads. Fads such as the slangs “PSYCHE!” and “Not!” But fashion choices were really interesting such the fingerless gloves or the jelly shoes

Back in 1990’s there was a huge demand for the neon colors. By 1992 animal prints started to become very popular, including giraffe and tiger prints. Then in 1993 came a return of the bell bottom pants and platform shoes. 1994 was all about the grunge look for both men and women.
