To continue my professional development, I would like a change of environment from my current role and an opportunity to better myself with new challenges and a new perspective.

I work diligently to treat others with utmost respect regardless of whether I agree with their point of view. By taking the time to establish authentic relationships with individual staff members, I am better able to understand their unique perspectives, needs, and concerns. Additionally, because I tailor my leadership approach to fit individuals and situations I am able to ensure the best possible outcomes. As a participative leader I look to others for input before I make decisions that will impact the group as a whole and I strive to motivate and inspire others so that they can gain professional fulfillment through autonomous practice. Finally, I believe that when individuals feel empowered and valued they develop pride in their work and are more willing to make meaningful contributions toward team goals.

Last Sunday at church Father Ron said something that hit home for me. He said that a mission begins with an invitation. I grew up in a rural area in the highlands of Nairobi, Kenya. Life was not easy and I always made a point of maximizing the opportunities I got. I grew up knowing that I wanted to be in a profession that really helped people improve their wellbeing. When I got the opportunity to go to university I choose to do Biomedical Science because I was very good at science and I thought that being a scientist was my calling. However, becoming an adult and having varying experiences like volunteering in a children’s home, working in the field doing research, working in a laboratory and currently working as a nurse aide has taught me

Legislation and codes of practice relating to equality, diversity and discrimination are foundations of my work role. It is like a stick of rock. Without ensuring that each individual has a safe, secure and nurturing environment in which to explore, develop and learn then I might as well give up. Every individual has the right not to be discriminated against and it is my job to ensure I am a positive role model.

3. Skilled Influencer – I feel strongly about the points I raise and I am confident in communicating with senior management.

I am writing to express my interest in the BIOS S-112 and BIOS S-113 companion courses offered by Dr. Berry in Oxford, England via the Harvard Summer School. I am a huge proponent of utilizing the multidisciplinary approach to understand the full scope of a subject by delving into its origins and its derivations, which is why these two courses are a significant draw for me. I am particularly excited by the prospect of learning from Dr. Berry, who has whose interests align quite similarly to my own, especially with his vast knowledge pertaining to zoology, life sciences, and evolutionary biology. Likewise – if given the opportunity to be a part of the 2016 Summer BIOS S-112/113 Cohort – I believe that I would be a valuable member of what I’m sure will be an interesting and diverse collection of students that will work together and grow as a collective.

The organizations where I work promote equality, diversity and inclusion in both policy and practice. Staffs should regularly be reminded the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion in day to day practice. The personal statement is very important to applicants who intend to be admitted to an undergraduate or graduate school. The role of a personal statement is to make applicants be different from other applicants. It mainly serves the purposes of persuading the admission committee of applicants’ great passion for the study field, explaining their experience that shaped their personality, demonstrating their longtime desire and commitment for the degree, and showing their life goals. What the admission committee is looking for in a personal statement varies from school to school, major to major. Art and Design is a unique program requiring its prospective students to be different in every aspect. The Art and Design Admission Committee is looking for a student who has creative potential in all respects. Hence, for those who want to apply to the School of Art and Design, they should understand how to present their stories, experiences, practice, goals, philosophy, inspirations, and aspirations in a creative way.

I see students as the next generations’ heroes in so many fields. In my vision, I have to inspire students and prepare them with confidence, knowledge, experience and skills. Which means I encourage, communicate, guide, teach, and assess students in order to enrich their infrastructures.

I can positively influence others, promote ideas and establish visions that can positively impact individuals, teams and work environment.
