Muscle Car," two distinctive cars come to mind, the Camaro and the Mustang. Throughout the era of the early 1950's and 1960's, there was a revolutionary movement that took place and paved the ground work for today's "Muscle Cars" known as the "Ponycar Era." Ask any avid Camaro or Mustang fan about the ponycar era, and watch their pain. They will describe cars that would light the tires on fire, floor it, and hang onto the wheel excitement. Back in the 1960's a new idea was soon to hit the American market, the Ford Mustang. When the Mustang was introduced, General Motors soon to had to follow with their own type of sports car. The car they generated was know as the Chevrolet Camaro. The cars
These engines had a lot more horsepower and torque than the previous engines and made the trucks able to pull a heavier load. The new engines made up to 56 horsepower in this generation and 146 foot-pounds of torque and where 194 cubic inches(Bunn, Chevrolet Trucks). Chevy still didn’t have beds on their trucks until 1930 then they started to put a bed on the trucks and made the cab a little bit bigger and more comfortable (Williams, 95 Years of Chevy Pickup History). Chevy also put a better, easier to shift, 3-speed synchromesh transmission. This was a great improvement because you could drive smoother, it was easier to drive the truck and you could pull a heavier load. The synchromesh style transmissions are still used in all of the manual transmissions on the road today. In 1936 they put full length water jackets on all of their engines. The full length water jackets made the engines run cooler and prevent them from overheating. This also let them make the engine bigger and were moved from 194 to 207 cubic inches.
When someone says, Chevrolet muscle car, what model comes to mind first? For me, the answer is a 1970 Chevelle Super Sport with a cowl induction hood. Even better, is a big block car like the SS 396 or the LS6 454 Chevelle. These GM A-body's check a lot of boxes for those seeking to start or add to a muscle car collection.
In this paper, I will be explaining most, if not all, of the differences between 1967-1972 Chevrolet pickup trucks. What I mean when I say that is these trucks all have the same body style, but a lot of little differences that I think make them better or worse. For example, the 1967 Chevy truck has no marker lights on both the front and rear quarter panels, which is one of the more noticeable changes from the 1967 to 1968 models. There is a pattern in the styles they use like the 1967 and 1968 have the same grills and hoods. Then in 1969, the grill and hood change a little bit but it is practically the same thing. The grill got a little bit of a change in 1970 but it is very minor and hardly noticeable and 1971 and 1972 the grills
“Ford vs. Chevy”, we have heard of this battle ever since the beginning of horsepower in Ford and Chevrolet. This is a never ending battle that sparks and rages somewhere in every fan of these great American made vehicles. We all want to prove that our side is the best. Although the 2012 Camaro ZL1 has a powerful engine, it is no match for the monstrous 2013 Shelby GT500. The Shelby thrashes the ZL1 in all areas. “According to Ford, the 2013 Shelby GT500 has a more powerful engine than any other American-made production car in the history of the industry” (Evans). “With a supercharged 5.8 liter, V8 engine, the 662 horsepower engine has a top speed of 202 miles per hour” (VersusBattle.com). “Although the ZL1 has a powerful engine, its top speed
The Super Sports (SS) package contained engine upgrades like a 350 cubic inch V8 or a 396 cubic inch V8 which both varied in horsepower. It also included an upgraded drivetrain and chassis air extractors that were built into the hood along with a special striping design and SS badging around the car. There also another option that combines these two packages together called RS/SS package. Z/28 package was originally introduced primarily for the SCAA Trans Am Racing Series it wasn’t intended to be a car sold to the public. But due to the popularity and the amount of consumers who wanted to get there hands on GM finally gave way. The Z/28 consisted even higher performance upgrades than the SS, which included an upgraded drivetrain, power front disc brakes, special Z/28 striping, a cowl induction hood that was designed to feed cool air into the intake, and a Muncie M21 close ratio 4 speed manual transmission. The Z/28 package also didn’t come with air conditioning and had only one engine option that was a 302 cubic inch V8 that was rated 290 horsepower from the factory although it was extremely inaccurate due to the fact of street regulations it was believed to have over 300 horsepower. GM rather than spend money building a new engine from scratch decided to use components from previous Chevrolet engines to build the 302. The two main

Beginning in 2007, Chevrolet rolled out a new audio system, wheel packages, and a new steering wheel. Additional trim shuffling took place in 2008. The SS coupe and SS sedan were renamed the Sport coupe and the Sport sedan, respectively. Previous optional equipment, including an MP3 player, XM radio, and side impact airbags were now standard. A new stability control system was introduced.
Engines. Unlike mustangs Camaro had appearance and performance. The first model of Camaro was the SS or the super sport it had a 350 cubic inch engine with 295 horse power which is about 14 more than the
Chevrolet did not begin selling trucks until 1918, after Chevrolet co-founder Billy Durant purchased a majority share in General Motors (GM), officially making Chevrolet a part of GM (Bunn, 2002, p. 5). The first model sold was called the 490 Light Delivery. It was based on the 490 car, and was powered by a 21 horsepower four cylinder engine. Another one-ton truck, called the Model T, debuted the same year and featured a larger engine and greater carrying capacity. While these were some of the first trucks ever made, they were not actually pickup trucks. In fact, these trucks left the manufacturer as nothing more than a chassis and a front cowl. It was the responsibility of the buyer to build or purchase an aftermarket cab and outfit the chassis as they saw fit (Williams, 2012). As far as creature comforts, these trucks included headlights, a seat, an instrument panel, and the basic necessities needed to operate a vehicle. Nevertheless, this began the era where those who needed to could haul cargo and perform jobs that a regular car of the time could not
the pure American art of rock and roll. The Chevy is the icon of America.
One of General Motors key products is the Chevrolet Corvette. The Corvette is made right here in America, and has been around for over 60 years, an there has been six different generations. The Corvette my be built in America, but it is sold worldwide. I believe that the Corvette was at the end of the maturity stage of its life cycle and moving toward the decline. But is now back in the growth state, GM has just come out with the new model of the Corvette, the old model leaned toward buyers that were in their 50s and up, but the new model is designed with leather, aluminum, and carbon fiber, along with a new sleek looking body style that appeals to the younger age. This new look allows the corvette to compete with Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini. The corvette is also just as fast but is half the price which helps attract more customers that are looking for a cheap but very fast and reliable sports car.
They continuously introduced innovative technology and new models every year. For example, the 1932 Sport Roadster mirrored the look and feel of the high-end Cadillac. The model included the new 6-cylinder engine, a huge selling point for other Chevrolet models as well. Chevy used the slogan “A Six in the Price Range of the Four!” often with many of their vehicles. Since the 6-cylinder engine was new at the time, Chevy used it to their advantage with their low prices. Consumers could buy a new 6-cylinder Chevrolet at the same price as a competing brand with only a 4-cylinder engine. More value for the price, something people were always searching for during this time. Chevy also introduced their first SUV in 1936, the Suburban, which is still sold today. The Suburban appealed to the family market, with the ability to hold up to eight people, with a favorable market price of only $685 (Chevrolet, Chevy Culture). Again, Chevy was catering to the current market which lead them to
The biggest change to the Packard Caribbean in 1955 is the debut of the 352 CID V8 engine. This engine produced 275 HP. This is almost 100 HP better than the Straight Eight in the 1954 model. Aggressive changes to the exterior body panels included a streamlined appearance with only a small flare in the rear fenders. However, they accented the slight flair with a non functional chrome vent molding. This coupled with a redesigned front grille, bullet style triple chrome bumper and dual hood scoops sets this year apart from all others.
The Royal Mail was the first Chevy to complete the specific attribute into one car. The Royal Mail made a great visual
