In this television show, Hannah realized she needed to seek professional help, at least once. She decided to seek help from her guidance counselor, but he was not helpful to her, and very quickly began victim blaming. As counselors, it is pertinent to help clients who are depressed and suicidal as we must be aware of the signs. It is essential not to minimize our client’s feelings and emotions. These issues of bullying, depression, and suicide amongst our youth are too important to be ignored. As a future counselor, I play a unique role in saving our youth, and advocating for those seeking professional help.
Through the first tape, Hannah expressed her feelings regarding Justin Foley's betrayal to her. She was deeply hurt when Justin, her first crush and kiss, spread false rumors that earned her a bad reputation.
Yesterday, 16-year-old Rachel decided to commit suicide-- an all too common increased trend in America as suicide is the third leading cause of death for 15- to 24-year-olds (“Teen Suicide Is Preventable”). Rachel felt like she could not handle her life anymore. Her parents were in the process of getting a divorce, she was being bullied at school, was having trouble succeeding in academics and co-curricular activities, and was recently been diagnosed with depression. So, in a desperate attempt to make all her problems go away, she took several pills and ended her life. Now, what caused Rachel specifically to take this drastic step and end her life? Was it her home life? Her school
Tyler was said to be a creep in Hannah’s tape, he exposed pictures of hannah. In the book, 13 Reasons Why, by Jay Asher, a girl named Hannah Baker records a box of cassette tapes before she commits suicide. Each tape is a reason why she took her life. The box is delivered to a boy named Clay Jensen. Clay was the love interest of Hannah Baker, so he is concerned why he received the tapes. As the tapes go on, it finally comes to his name. Hannah’s tape to Clay was very much unlike the other tapes. The other tapes were very resentful to call them out on what they had done. Clay’s story was different. During every tape, she would build up the perfection of each person, before exposing their secrets. Hannah explained on the tape that Clay did not belong on the list. She wanted to explain to him what happened on their night.
The idea of a teenager ending her life because of the people surrounding her is not uncommon today. I, myself, have had friends that have almost ended their own lives because of how a boy treated them or gossip surrounding them. Jay Asher illustrates the brutality and ugliness of these situations in such an honest way that I felt like Clay hearing these words that change his life. The book didn’t have a happy ending either—Hannah didn’t come back and Clay was left to deal with the mess that lay in her path. Sometimes stories find a way for there to be a happy resolution, but for Thirteen Reasons Why to be an authentic story it couldn’t have ended happily. Suicide, and specifically suicide in teenagers, is a real problem that needs to be acknowledged and prevented. Every story has many sides and you can never know what a person is truly going
In America suicide is the third leading cause of death for 15 - 24 year olds, the age group of most high school and college students (“11 facts about suicide”). The novel Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher has become one of the most controversial books this year due to the recent release of the netflix series based on the book. Two sides have formed saying that the novel is either glorifying suicide or that the novel is bringing awareness to the growing problem in america. While different facts can be put into argument for both sides, Thirteen Reasons Why has brought about many new opinions and perspectives that show the glorification of suicide to outway the support it was attempting to give.
Contrary to what Hannah preaches, her words will forever scar those listening. In the very first tape, Hannah automatically starts her blame game on all who

Towards the end of the novel, Thirteen Reasons Why, by Jay Asher, Hannah experiences a horrifying incident. In the tape, she explains that she was hiding in the closet while a boy from her school, who Clay identifies as Bryce Walker, raped her former best friend, Jessica, who was drunk and passed out. I chose this event in the book because it made Hannah feel weak and helpless. In the recording, hannah constantly blames herself for not being able to help Jessica and the guilt she felt after that night. Hannah strongly believed that she could've stopped this incident from happening and this was exactly how Clay felt about Hannah's death as he was listening to the tapes. There were many times when I felt helpless and although I've never experienced
Suicides happen more often in America because of bullying. Bullying needs to stop. Bullying is worse than a bystander because there depressed, mad, or sad.

The producers of the show deliberately disregarded mental health experts on how to film Hannah Baker’s suicide. The TV series is based on a book by Jay Asher that shares the same name. In the book, Hannah’s tragic demise occurred by hanging herself. Controversially, the producers decided to change the ending for the purpose of the show, having her cut instead. The modification to the story occurred because they wanted to show the brutality of suicide rather than the misconception of quietly drifting off. While knowing this definitely helps sway people away from committing suicide, but medical experts know, sometimes showing is not better than telling. Before the show even began filming doctors highly advised not to show her death on screen,
As we tune into the show, we see a memorial shine tribute to a girl named Hannah Baker who had died weeks earlier. As the story goes on, we follow the main character Clay Jensen, who has trouble with emotions and feelings. He is depressed and has relapses and daydreams of Hannah during school hours. After school, Tony, a friend of Clay, drops him off at his house. There on Clay’s front porch is a brown package. Inside this package lies a box with a map and 13 tapes. As Clay plays one of the tapes on a boom box, he finds out it is Hannah’s suicide note and all the reasons she wanted to end her life. “Listen to everything and pass it on”, Hannah warns, or else a “trusted individual” will make the tapes go public. Of course, that would be bad for everyone. Clay accidentally breaks the device he was first used to listen to the tapes and now needs a device to play the tapes, so he

The series displayed the struggles of teen Hannah Baker and how even her closest friends or parents seemed to notice. Consequently, in the end, not only Hannah but her friend Alex got hurt as well. Alex was one of Hannah’s best friend until he made a disturbing joke about her with his fellow peers claiming that Hannah had the biggest ass.
