1. The book I read was Macaroni Boy
2. The author of Macaroni Boy is Katherine Ayres
3. The setting of Macaroni was during the Depression of 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA. This took place during the month of November in the strip district that is still known the strip district of Pittsburgh, PA but it definitely has different businesses than were there in the 1930’s. It seems like one month of time passes during this story.
4. The Protagonist – Mike Costa
Other characters:
Andy Simms – hinders the protagonist. He is Mike’s classmate and is a bully. He and Mike got into a few fights in school. Andy calls Mike Macaroni Boy and Rat Boy.

Next, Grandpap started to get sick and vomit blood. Mike saw this and very scared that he was dying. Then, there was a big explosion at the Banana Warehouse. This causes everyone to be very suspicious of how it happened and wanted to blame the hobo’s that hung out at St Pat’s. Next, two hobo’s were found dead by the Banana Warehouse. This made Mike and Joseph really curious of how these two guys died. Mike and Joseph caught a rat and used it to try to find out how the hobos died at the banana warehouse. They made the rat drink river water, moonshine and eat catfish. They figured out that the catfish must have poisoned the hobos, and also made Grandpap and Andy sick. Mike traded macaroni and cheese for a piece of catfish from Andy. Mike and his pop are excited to help the police solve how the hobos died and to help Grandpap feel better.
6. I really liked this story because Mike reminded me of myself with trying to deal with the daily problems with kids in school. My family is really tight just like Mike’s family and I see or talk to my grandparents every day. My sister and I and all of my cousins help out with family chores and take pride in our hard work.
I really like the part of the book when the banana warehouse had the explosion because I wanted to find out who did it, why they did it and why was this important to the rest of the story?
At the beginning, the book made me sad because of the time of when this took place. It was very hard times for the people
In my opinion I thought that this book was a very good book. In this chapter I will describe the setting, theme, plot and conflict etc. This book had a few different settings like
On the other hand, his other friend Tommy who had HIV related to toxoplasmosis. The boys all meet up for Tommy funeral. After the funeral, sick boy wanted help trying to sell a big load of heroin. They all agreed to help him. Mark experimented out the heroin on himself while on the way to where he is going to sell it.
The main character Micheal Oher’s, who is introduced to us through his rough life growing up. Micheal never knew his father and his mother was a drug addict. HIs mother gave birth to a total of fifteen children, who of course due to her drug addiction raised themselves basically. Michael spent his teenage years running away from a string of foster homes and situations. Michael got tired of foster care
The largest conflict that Jackson Greene, the protagonist and main character of the novel, encountered was his conversation with Keith Sinclair about Victor Cho taking Keith’s bribe in exchange for a video game. This conflict changed the course of the book. The information that Victor leaked allowed Keith to break into Hashmi's shed and steal all of the necessary tools for the heist.
Then years went by and John and Penn were in the seventh grade. John made a new friend named Mike. They liked to bully other kids. John was a football sensation. He is popular in
Andy is the character that I had strong feelings for because he reminded me of someone I know like curious george which in this case it is not funny like the monkey this book is more serious and mysterious. Andy likes to inquire more and dig deep just like george they both also worry for other people for example Andy worried that Zeke would try to do something to him if he told the police which Andy did anyway but he did that because he wanted to protect nina from lucas. In george’s case he protect the mman in the yellow hat which is the one he lives with, I cant really name any right now but if you have read the books you would know what im talking about.
I did actually really like this book. I was not sure if I was going to enjoy it when the project was first assigned, but after reading for a while, I became really interested
He is a mysterious kid and not much is known about him and his background at the start. He dresses in black and rides an old BMW motorcycle. This, of course, occurs without the necessary context and the questions that arise from his confession, the ‘who?’ and the ‘what?’, remain unanswered for some time. The first significant event that occurs in the novel is a drug sweep in the school where a junior named Mikey, the second main character of the novel, runs in to trouble. Mikey is a small teenager with a big mouth that always gets him into trouble. He is Mexican and despite his troubled attitude, he is quite intelligent. During the school-wide drug sweep, a big, drug-dealing bully named Jon Brand, afraid to get caught with his weed, forces Mikey to take his drugs. Mikey, with his nonchalant attitude, unwisely trashes his marijuana. Jon Brand, being the tempered bully that he is, threatens to violently beat Mikey up unless he pays him $500, the estimated street value of his drugs. Unfortunately, Mikey’s sister is dating this bully. Jon becomes very abusive to Mikey’s sister, Marie, which is something she does not realize until a long time. He is a drug addict who is physically violent to Marie and gets her to start using drugs. Mikey dislikes that Marie, his vulnerable teenage sister, is being hurt by Jon. This event and his hatred of Jon ties into Shayne Blank as it becomes the starting point in their friendship. Shayne offers to help Mikey solve his problem with Jon by using his “ninja-style” combat skills. As you can guess, this series of events following Jon’s abusive actions kindles their involvement in matters leading to Shayne’s confession of
I chose this theme because the story is about Jews in the Treblinka concentration camp. Most of the Jews were in fear, they lost hope, desire, but there were few who wanted to fight against the Nazis for their freedom. Their biggest obstacle was fear. In addition, while reading this book, I often had hard time sleeping, even though I don’t read it right before the bed. If the book was fiction, then it might not be that hard to sleep but I knew that the story is during the Holocaust and everything actually happened. The author included both spiritual and emotional struggles. Due to the well-written context, I could follow the story easily. Also, some of the scenes I still cannot forget in my
Joseph’s house gets burnt down by the rent collectors because they were late to pay rent. Joseph goes to try an kill the the leader Daniel. He is unsuccessful and gets hurt by the daughter Shannon when she stabs him with a pitchfork. She eventually convinces Joseph to come with her to America. All of here stuff gets stolen so she has to get a job.
Nevertheless, this book gave me a great impulse with detailed description of life in imprisonment. This made me think deeply about the ignominious actions took during the World War, as well as those who lost their lives and their family. Thus, I believe that the author succeeded in making us deliberate the history and ensure that this kind of evil is never allowed to repeat itself again. Moreover, I could definitely feel the power of love particularly in those moments when the deportees were struggling to survive and going through the toughest conflicts. When Elena died, everyone, even the mean old bald man pleaded for her life and bade farewells filled with love.
The author set up the book with it starting with such a tragic event and ends it with a very good scene almost a happy ending. I feel as if she did that to say you can overcome anything that happens in your life. When tragic things happen in your life that you cannot control, you have to learn to cope and let
The text of the story “Hiroshima” is sad, because it is talking about all of the innocent people that died in the bombing of Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945. It tells the stories of the people that were affected by the bombing. They were just living their lives like they would any other day. The bombing affected people not only physically, but mentally as well. They were left with horrifying images of what had happened to them in the blink of an eye. The way Hersey explains the stories of the people tells you that the text is serious and emotional.
It just amazes me that many literature works have natural reactions and emotions to certain circumstances no matter what day in age it is or how fictional the work is. Such as the mother’s wanting the best for their children no matter what it takes or what the consequences are. The violence, grief, and even revenge is really descriptive and touching depending on the circumstances. Even the settings of these stories really help set the mood which in turn helps the reader to imagine the story in their head as if it is real life. The many different emotions depicted in these stories draw the reader into what they are reading because there is at least one emotion that the reader can relate to. Both the setting of the stories and the morals in the stories play a big part in deciding if you enjoy the story or if you hate it. Many people will not enjoy a book that does not have the same morals that they abide by because in most cases it makes them uncomfortable. If the reader does not like the setting of the story it is very hard for them to really get into the story and imagine what is going on. All of these factors are in my opinion what make a story great.
The setting of the story affected the characters. “They have been so brutalized that they are hardly recognizable as human.”(May Charles E.) The way how they were brutalized depicts how they are going to be treated throughout the story. This already sets how the feeling for each of the characters, since they are treated differently. “She is so close to death from starvation and exposure that she can think of no one but herself.”(May Charles E.) Stella became cold hearted and didn’t care for anybody needs, but hers only. She was broken with no emotion left show. This lets off something that the setting can make a person not care for anybody but oneself. “A Nazi guard throws Magda into an electrified fence. She dies instantly.”(May Charles E.) Even though Magda was only an infant, the guards could care less about what they are since they are Jews. This show how humans can kill each other without a thought of what they are killing. With the three main characters being Jews, which is one of many that suffered in the Holocaust, they suffered for not being Aryan.
