Read Ephesians 1:3-14 slowly and note all the promises described in the
passage. Identify and briefly describe at least two things you see that God
has done for you in Christ in the passage. Explain why you picked the ones
you did. How are they significant for you personally?
The passage discuses redemption through his blood and forgiveness for our
trespasses. There is also mention of inheritance that has been obtained. I have
chosen these promises for assorted reasons. Forgiveness and redemption are
something I find comfort in. I find it comforting to know that I will not be held
to my wrong doings or mistakes. I will be forgiven and still allowed to continue
my relationship with Christ. Forgiveness is a concept that is difficult for me. I
find it easier to hold on to anger or sadness than to forgive someone. However,
having the knowledge that I am forgiven gives me strength to work towards
forgiveness for others.
The inheritance that is promised is the result of Christs love. His love is
powerful and never ending. In challenging times, I try to remember this to keep
moving forward. No matter what the struggle is Christ is beside me and
supporting me to continue forward. The mention of inheritance just reinforces
this for me.
Next, read the passage again and identify specific words that tell you about
God’s
intentions and motives
in providing the things described. Identify at
least two key words and explain the motives you see behind them. What do
these motives tell you about God or how he works? Explain.
Counsel and promised are the two words I will identify. He is present
to show us the path he has set in front of us. God is present to hear our prayers
and answer our questions. We are never truly alone as followers of God. There
is a guarantee that God is listening and in time will answer. We may not agree
with the answer or understand Gods reasoning, but it is there. I have struggled
with my faith for many years. However, I find comfort in thought that God is
present for counsel if I were to ask. There is a promise that he will continue to
support and love me, even during the rocky relationship I currently have with
him.
