Psychologists define personality as a pattern of enduring and distinctive characteristics of an individual which produces consistency and creates individuality in the person, it is what separates one person from another, everyone is different regions. LO 31-2 What do the theories of Freud, and his successors tell us about the structure and development of personality? The theories of Freud, and his successors claim that the psychodynamic approach to personality is that behavior often is driven by personality, in the unconscious mind that we are unaware of. Frued’s psychoanalytic theory then suggests that personality is composed from id, ego, and super ego. Personality also stems from series of oral, anal, phallic, latency, and genital series. LO 32-1 What are the major aspects of trait, learning, biological and evolutionary, and humanistic approaches to personality? Major aspects of traits, learning, biological and evolutionary, then humanistic approaches to personality are how they all respond to personality. Trait approaches are used to identify relative enduring dimensions and how they differentiate between others. Learning approaches to personality is the observable behaviors, how the student adapts to the environment and performs, their self-esteem and efficacy. Biological and evolutionary aspects are the traits that are inherited. Lastly humanistic aspects are related to an individual's inherent goodness or core beliefs. LO 33-1 How can we most accurately assess personality? To accurately assess personality, psychologists can use psychological tests; the MMPI-2-RF which is standard assessing tools measuring behavior in an objective order. Tests must be valid and reliable, measuring what they are supposed to and consistently. LO 33-2 What are the major types of personality measures? Major types of personality measures are self-report measures, projective personality tests, and behavior assessments. Self-report measures are when people report their own ranges of behaviors, such as the ones they go through when solving a particular problem, reports then are used to infer presence of certain personality characteristics of the person. Then projective personality tests, also referred to as Rorschach and TAT tests. Those tests present an ambiguous
