A Wall in our Nation. The Ethical Dilemma for Preservation A Wall in our Nation. The ethical dilemma for Preservation BNC 301 4 February 2024 A Wall in our Nation. The ethical dilemma for Preservation
A Wall in our Nation. The Ethical Dilemma for Preservation The border, our first line of defense, or our last. The analytical realization between governing one’s self interest, and that of a foreign party is beginning to be one of the upmost concerns and a primary topic of debate for national security within United States. Who are we preserving, ourselves, or the enemy? Difficulty arises when morality enters into conversation on whether members of government are denying their responsibility of focusing on humanitarian concerns and aid. Selfishly looking at the interior struggle of locating and defeating terrorism to protect those who are citizens, do we as a people of the United States, who have established dominance on the world stage for being saviors to those who have succumb to the unfortunate realization of oppression, death, and suffering, turn a blind eye to those in need? With the influx of illegal immigration, how can we continue to monitor asylum seekers and allow their freedom of maneuver when there may lie dangers among those who enter, while also caring about those who are current citizens at the mercy of those who have intentions on causing violence to promote their way of life, politically, socially or religiously. Illegal immigrant prevention Shortly over the last decade, the concern for illegal immigrants entering through the southern border has been a concern for military and civilian government officials alike. Joint efforts between the local and federal government have been initiated in attempts to mitigate illegal crossings yet the Americas are not the only countries that are making its way into the United States. It has been observed that people from Africa, the Caribbean, and Asia have been using South, and Central America as a conduit into the U.S., also classified as extracontinental migrants (Caitlyn Yates, 2022). Over the last two years over 2 million illegal immigrants have
A Wall in our Nation. The Ethical Dilemma for Preservation entered the United States and within those are families, men, women, and children, but our primary concern are not those seeking asylum for safety, or those striving to escape the terrors within their countries. The national security concern lies heavily on those who have managed to slip through the cracks, sneak between the people, and hide within the shadows in order to disrupt and destroy our constitutional way of life built through nefarious means. According to the Department of Homeland Security, who has been utilizing all available means to secure the southern border, actions which have been taken include referring and prosecuting 100% of the illegal border crossers, to include adding additions to the wall which separate the United States from Mexico, and deploying the national guard as additional assistance (DHS). Terrorist at our doorstep Understanding the inherent risk, and allowing illegal immigration to prevail, maximizes the fragility of national security. First line enforcers; border patrol, and the Department of Homeland Security continue tackling the struggles of terrorism amongst asylum seekers as new vetting processes have allowed for better regulations when ruling out innocent reasoning behind entry into the U.S. Illegals who have not been identified and pose threats to the public safety, health, national security, have been previous identified as immigration law violator and have violated E-vetting policies will be prevented from entry under DHS’s Goal 3.2: prevent unlawful immigration. Success through a unified effort among federal, local, and state agencies have increased opportunities for terrorist apprehension by adhering to federal information sharing policies as well as working with the DOJ (department of Justice) to ensure immigration cases are heard in a timelier fashion. Many of the primary struggles that are occurring at the border and its illegal
A Wall in our Nation. The Ethical Dilemma for Preservation crossings are deriving from specific criminal activities, such as alien smuggling, harboring unauthorized aliens, domestic transporting, and harboring, which can ultimately lead to more serious crimes, such as human trafficking of women and children, amongst other things. The Department of justice explains in Title 8, U.S.C. § 1324(a)(2) focuses on the explanation of bringing in unauthorize aliens into the United States utilizing the methods above (i.e., harboring etc.) as illegal, regardless if at any point of entry or not (2020). Fear and Record-Breaking Numbers The United States has been recently led on a path of uneasiness in reference to border crossings as the numbers become staggering of illegal migrants entering into the United States. Hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants have migrated north from Central America over the last decade, but over the last two years those numbers have overall doubled, and within them the possibility of hundreds if not thousands of terrorists. On December 20, 2023, homeland security Chairman Mark E. Green made a shocking statement to the House Committee. He stated, “I fear the extent of the threat posed by the record-number of gotaways on Secretary Mayorkas’ watch won’t be clear until it is too late. The number of individuals apprehended illegally crossing the Southwest border and found to be on the terrorist watchlist has increased 2,500 percent from Fiscal Years 2017-2020 to Fiscal Year 2023. And those are only who we’ve caught,”. He went on to state the comparison of border security to national security, and how both are one in the same, where you cannot have one and exclude the other and expect positive results for safety in the country. According to Chairman Green, the example given coincides with statistics which have been recorded for the year 2023, as approximately 2 million
A Wall in our Nation. The Ethical Dilemma for Preservation people who have never been recorded have entered the United States with the alarming realization that amongst those could very well be a large number of terrorists. Virginia Fusion Center in Preparation Within the Commonwealth of Virginia, measures have been implemented to combat terrorism through various means. The incorporation between federal, state, and local law- enforcement agencies has created a unified approach where the government has also gone to lengths to incorporate private industries to facilitate information collection, prioritization, classification, analysis, and sharing as a means to defend the commonwealth against terrorist actions and threats. (Virginia Fusion Center, 2023). Within the Virginia Fusion Center lies a specific unit called the Terrorism Intelligence Unit. Individuals within this organization are tasked to deal with both international and domestic terrorism, who can be used to observe everyone from homegrown violent extremists (HVEs), to racially motivated violent extremists (HVEs RMVEs). Oversight and Security Due to the unprecedented numbers of illegal immigrants entering through the southern border, measures have been continually enforced to protect our way of life here in the United States through means both respected, and not. Difficulty remains when the concept of privacy invasion occurs at the expense of a nations well-being, and although Congress has passed many laws, the Patriot Act of 2001 has been one of many controversies. But failure to recognize the capabilities which have allowed law-enforcement officers; local, state, and federal, with the specific inclusion in mind of CBP and 1 st responders who secure the border, to take the needed initiatives in order to combat the evil at our doorstep, we must in turn be willing to minimally
