Arguments in Favor of Banning Transgender Athletes from Competing Against Cisgender Athletes of the Same Gender Both science and common sense agree that they differ in numerous ways. When men who identify as female are allowed to compete in women's sports, women and girls suffer. The fact that men and women are created differently is a physiological fact. Men have more muscular mass and bone density than women, making them physically stronger. When female athletes in contact sports are compelled to compete against males, their safety is jeopardized. Women and girls will have less sports and academic chances across the board. They will compete despite the fact that they have no realistic prospect of winning. And for many women, sports are their greatest chance at a college scholarship. For example, in 2018, two transgender high school students in Connecticut won top prizes at the state championships for girls in track and field. Some parents were outraged, arguing that the students had a competitive advantage over non-transgender students because they were born male and had higher testosterone levels than non- transgender females Competitive Advantage : Many claim that allowing transgender athletes to participate based on their gender identity creates an unfair competitive advantage, particularly in sports where physical traits like strength and speed are important. Male-to-female transgender athletes, according to some, may have physical advantages over cisgender female athletes. Maintaining Fairness : There is fear that, in the absence of clear restrictions, some individuals may falsely declare a different gender
identification in order to obtain a competitive advantage. Maintaining fairness in sports is critical to preserving the competition's credibility. Biological Differences : Some argue that there are fundamental biological differences between cisgender males and females that cannot be completely offset by hormone therapy, and that these differences may have an impact on competitive outcomes in some sports. Protecting Women's Sports : Others believe that allowing transgender athletes to compete in women's sports could negatively impact cisgender athletes' opportunities and chances of receiving athletic scholarships, possibly lowering their chances of success. Critics underline the importance of well-defined, evidence-based criteria that achieve a balance between inclusivity and justice. They say that sports organizations should carefully study the requirements for transgender athletes to participate. While some female athletes have bravely advocated for gender equality in sports, many others have been unwilling to come out. And it's easy to see why. Those who wonder whether males should be permitted to compete against girls are mocked and bullied. Activists slammed tennis icon Martina Navratilova after she said it's "cheating" for a guy to compete as a woman. Similarly, when Selina and other female contestants voiced their displeasure, they were characterized as bitter losers. ABC News. (2018).
