Future-State Workflow Peer Review
The future-state workflow for the medical-surgical unit is intriguing as it guides the
emergency room, floor, and radiology department interactions between the patients and
nurses. The workflow provides a clear framework for the patient processing from the arrival
in the emergency room, admission, and the activities carried out in the respective sections.
However, patients in the emergency room can benefit from early assessment of the patient’s
vitals and initiation of the medication. Singhal et al. (2021) state that the nurse in charge is
responsible for nursing care in the emergency department. In light, nursing care is the
primary responsibility of the emergency room nurse.
Besides, the use of EMR can also be
integrated from when the patient is transferred to the floor nurse. The Slack software can
capture the patient’s information, medications, and proposed workouts to embrace electronic
health records in the medical-surgical unit.
The swim lane provides a clear guide in interacting with patients across the
emergency room, nursing floor, and radiology department. However, STAT medications can
be administered in the emergency room, and the floor nurse can initiate a comprehensive
patient assessment. History taking can be followed by administration of the ordered
medications and follow-up with the indicated laboratory investigations. Besides, the
healthcare system has various providers; hence, the section detailed providers can be specific
to physicians. Overall, the swim lane is conclusive and captures the essential components of
patient care and therapeutic intervention.
The workflow can also depict the interaction with the physician in the emergency
room. Emergency room physician is not depicted in the workflow and swim lane. Donelan
et
al. (2020) emphasized the coordination of the care team in emergency care. The emergency
room physicians are the first line of contact with the patients in the medical-surgical unit;
hence their role in the emergency room can also be integrated into the future state workflow.

Medical Law & Ethics

Medical laws and ethics are crucial in this field. Laws are implemented not only to ensure proper medical services are provided and
to secure patient's rights, but also to protect the provider and the staff. Though laws can be subject to change, they still cover a vast
variety of situations set forth for everyone involved. An example of what the laws cover would be providing accurate and
appropriate medical care, professionalism, communication, and security of patient information, who owns and has access to patient
medical records, and to whom and where reports can be submitted if medical malpractice is suspected.
For this discussion assignment, you will be given two scenarios; you should base your answer on your understanding and research of
medical laws and ethics. Your initial post should be 75-100 words. Once you submit…
