Start with a lower dose, do not take on an empty stomach and the side effects should be better after a few days. Part 2: Drug C Drug Generic and Brand Names Disulfiram Brand name Antabuse When to Use the Drug for Treating Alcohol Use Disorder Used as a deterrent to drink by making individual ill if they drink. Start taking this drug after abstinence is achieved. Starting Dose 250-500mg/day Maintenance Dose 250-500mg/day Patient Education Do not take disulfiram while drinking alcohol. Wait until at least 12 hours of drinking otherwise you will have side effects. Take this drug regularly. Carry an emergency card stating you are on Disulfiram. Reaction of Disulfiram and alcohol can occur up to 2 weeks after Disulfiram is stopped. Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking before starting Disulfiram.
