Ethics and Compliance in Action
Page 120-122
The significance of promoting ethical behavior inside a company is emphasized in
this Ethics and Compliance in Action item. When a manager observes a team member
operating morally in an environment where others could be inclined to act unethically, the
management should recognize and commend the staff member (Prenkert et al., 2022). By
doing this, the manager not only expresses gratitude but also upholds the moral principles of
the company. Managers may encourage staff to behave ethically by praising them and finding
ways to reinforce them. For instance, an ethical manager would applaud a staff member’s
honesty and even add a recognition note in their job file if they reported a supplier’s attempt
at bribery. This praise recognizes the person’s deeds and serves as an example for others
inside the company.
The item also recommends that management set up a system for workers to report
unethical behavior among the personnel. Whistleblowing, frequently perceived as disloyalty
by some, can instead be reframed as essential for preserving the firm’s reputation and
decision-making procedures. Finding unethical choices is essential for avoiding bad choices
and reducing damage to company revenues (Prenkert et al., 2022). Witch hunts should be
avoided, but obtaining proof of purported unethical activity enables management to look into
and correct harmful behavior in the company.
The need to not encourage or tolerate unethical behavior is also underlined. Ignoring
inappropriate conduct is unacceptable while managing a workforce, just as it is when raising
children. The behaviors of unethical employees must be corrected, and ethical leaders must
not tolerate unethical words. Managers can convey strongly that the company does not
support unlawful or unethical behavior by immediately responding to proposals or unethical
remarks (Prenkert et al., 2022). Organizations may create a culture where ethical standards

Case 1:Ethics vs.Profit
A large American company participates in a highly competitive industry. To meet the competition and achieve profit goals, the company has chosen the decentralized form of organization. Each manager of a decentralized center is measured on the basis of profit contribution, market penetration, and return on investment.Failure to meet the objectives established by corporate management for these measure is not accepted and usually results in demotion or dismissal of a center manager

Topic:
Gross and Rook (2018) suggest that it is essential for total reward programs to acknowledge "the needs of the business, the changing environment, the aspirations and demographics of employees, the local culture, and the current and future cost constraints" (p. 350). They argue for shifting the focus from disparate pay components to a holistic total rewards approach that includes:
Compensation – base pay and variable pay plans
Benefits
Careers
Work life
Given this understanding, do you believe your organizations total rewards program is appropriate and effective in attracting, retaining and engaging talent? Are there any gaps? Make some suggestions on how your organization can improve total rewards. Please comment on each of the four components listed above. If you're current not working, you can use a previous company you worked for. If you have not yet worked anywhere, you can answer these questions in general.

Her division has been under pressure to improve its

on cost of goods sold. Jake Myers, the president of the

installation labor provided by trainee employees. Myers
argues,
"the trainees are not as efficient as regular
employees so this is unfairly inflating our cost of goods
sold. This is really a cost of training (administrative
labor) not part of cost of goods sold." Gilpin does not
see a reason for reclassification of…

Case: Dealing with Workplace Bullying
Work-related responsibilities can be challenging for many employees, managers, and executives for numerous reasons. It is not uncommon for all of these people to face challenges in balancing personal and work-life demands, as well as extensive job demands. But the pressure can be increased when “bullying” by bosses or employees is present.Bullying in workplaces occurs when people are insulted, frightened, pressured strongly by comments, or face numerous other questionable actions by others. The occurrence of bullying is extensive, according to some surveys. For instance, of more than 50 million workers surveyed, about 37% of them said they had been bullied at work. Many of the incidents were by executives, managers, or supervisors who were their bosses. Examples of bullying by bosses included criticizing employees personally with insults or yelling, and making excessive demands. In a smaller study in San Francisco, 45% of 1,000 employees said they…
