The US Department of Justice has been under public scrutiny due to the increased
number of corrupt judges’ cases which affect the confidentiality of the Judiciary. A recent case
that hit the headlines was on the conviction of the Texas judge, Rodolfo Delgado, who was tried
and found guilty on the bribery charges. Rodolfo Delgado was charged under 3 accounts of
bribery between January to February 2018. The verdict was released in July 2019, and the judge
was found guilty for the three bribery charges and obstruction of Justice during his investigation.
Judge bribery is both insubordinate and unethical, noting that it is a corrupt deal where the judge
gives unfair sentences for his benefit (
Reyes-Jaquez & Koenig, 2021)
. This paper explores this
unethical encounter and the solution in eradicating judge bribery.
The article published by the Department of Justice narrates the corrupt dealing of the
convicted Texas judge, ‘Rudy.’ The 65-year-old judge was accused of having taken bribes
amounting to almost 3000 in three accounts in early 2018. The judge was also prosecuted against
obstruction of justice during his investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Judges should be fair and should not receive bribes in exchange for unfair verdicts. The ethical
issue in this situation is the corrupt dealings of the judge, who violates the ethical code of
conduct and affects the administration of justice. The Grand Jury in the case is to carry
sentencing based on the evidence and facts to the case. The jury assured the community of their
firm intervention in eradicating and punishing corrupt judges who ‘harm the community’s
confidence in the judicial system” (
Yan, & Qi, 2021)
. This shows the moral courage in the
political intervention against judge bribery in the US judicial system.
In conclusion, corruption by bribery to judges affects the judicial system's impartiality.
Corrupt judges who receive bribes will be prosecuted to end this unethical behavior (
Yan, & Qi,
2021)
. Bribery in the judicial system affects justice administration in society (
